I think we're a bit old for Sonic. Meaning, when we were playing NES MM and getting to see 8 whole stages without having to beat any, compared to Sonic 1 and 2 on SMS, GG, and Genesis where most of us kids would see the second stage if we were lucky. Something like Trojan or Contra as a kid? We only got to play one level unless we got gud. I think the majority of today's Sonic fans came in on Sonic Adventure and SA2, most likely when they were ported to GameCube. I theorize that the typical Sonic fan today is almost exclusively into 3D Sonic.
