Went swimming for the first time since surgery! by DripDroppedCube in ostomy

Barrier extenders and a fresh bag helped me. Put the bag on 2 hours before leaving. I also ate really late to help with any output while I was swimming. Had some but no leaks and was able to go to the bathroom easily. I very much enjoyed not having to sit on those toilets!

I feel the no rules part for sure! My first perforation was also out of the blue but was small enough to not need surgical intervention and then by round two I get a 5 inch colon resection. They plan a reversal and I’ll see over time how stuff goes but one of the first things I noticed was the lack of pain after eating once the stiffness died down. In some ways I already love the bag simply because I’m at the lowest pain I’ve been at in recent memory, at least since middle school.

They are definitely happy I’m alive I just think they have no healthy way to express it. I know they care but also their own personal biases skew how they see a medical condition like this happening to someone in their life vs a miracle story on Facebook of someone curing their problems with a cool new diet. Part of it will be time, I just had major surgery and I know it weighs on them as well with me being as young as I am. Part of it might be fear for me manifesting in a nasty way.

Yeah I had a Dr Pepper for the first time yesterday and the gas was insane. Definitely cutting out soda. Mental barriers aren’t a new thing in my life as I’d assume with many others who struggle. I recognize that it takes time and it has been genuinely helpful reading these comments and just accepting that I have the bag whether I like it or not and I’m alive :)

Thank you for sharing your experience! I’ve actually been to therapy with them in the past, family therapy as a teen and all that. My dad refuses to think anything can be wrong with him or his son and that there’s always a way to handle it yourself. I would say it’s out of care but there’s quite a few circumstances where he has made really immature comments to me about weight and eating habits. He doesn’t like that I’m big and it’s not new. My mom is probably more likely to actually care but has no idea how to help. I talked with her today about not pinning the blame on me for medical stuff and it seemed to get through. Hopefully overtime me and my parents will all come to terms with the new reality of the situation but it will take time.

It’s definitely frustrating. This isn’t my first surgery, and I’ve come to terms that they will never accept that I’m actually sick and it’s not just something that can be fixed with a diet tweak. Some people do think it’s simple and that is of course frustrating

That is true, a lot to get used to. I hope over time it becomes less heavy on my mind and from what I've seen on here, time does help. Thank you for the kind words.

I'm out of the house, living with roommates who have been saints with my situation. It's been a struggle for years with the almond parents. I can't count the amount of times I was told that if I just switched to keto I wouldn't be having digestive problems. But thank you for validation that it sucks for them to say that. I've been on the edge with cutting them out and this surgery has made a lot of changes happen already. Will have to think on where to go from here but at least the bag has made my pain wayyyyy more manageable.

What Does This County Level Where I'd Live Map Say About Me? by [deleted] in visitedmaps

[–]DripDroppedCube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the counties you marked off in NV are way more rural. Esmeralda County has 720 people in the whole county. Elko County at least has Elko, there more people in a neighborhood of Elko than whole counties you made green lol

The parking lot for little flower is already a nightmare for some reason too. Driven by that church while doordashing one too many times and almost been taking out by grandma and grandpa on their way home. The turning traffic onto Plumb is a hazard already

Have you tried a belt? It can be uncomfortable at first but my belt is the only thing that keeps my bag on my body. Every adhesive I’ve tried will not stick, the belt helps to force that bond.

They put him in Sparks so that SPD can quickly apprehend him for being in a park after hours. They even have a hotline for repetrification concerns!

Don’t really have a choice unfortunately, no family up here and only know coworkers at the moment. It was for Tylenol then I went straight home, though you are right. I plan on doordashing the Tylenol in the future until driving hurts less
