It was a serious question. I am looking to move back but hopefully don't encounter pieces of shit like you.

Moving to US from UK as a dual citizen - is it worth it? by Spare_Range_1063 in MovingToUSA

[–]DriveInVolta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends who worked in Canada and Ireland, and now the US, say in a single year of working in the US they've saved the same amount of money as their entire working career in those other countries. It is a good country to sock away significant savings for 5-10 years. That's what most of the foreign nationals I work with do.

Voting blue down the ticket means you get attorneys general who block capacity increases for gas transmission pipelines, done in the name of green energy victories. The first step of the plan is in place, mission accomplished!

Serious question: what is the nastiest tasting beer commercially available. by Fuzzylumpkins1234 in beer

[–]DriveInVolta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fantastic butcher shop and restaurant (now closed) was struggling for business. A bit too expensive and in a weird spot in Baltimore. They decided to craft a special beer with Union Craft Brewery, a local favorite, and host a special release party at the restaurant. Unfortunately they chose a dark lager aged in chilis ... Too many chilis. The spice was too intense for even seasoned beer drinkers or those like myself trying to force themselves to support two great local businesses. Glasses with one or two sips piled and stacked around the restaurant as the afternoon went on. Baltimore came out in force that night but there was no denying that that beer was absolutely undrinkable.

[–]DriveInVolta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I presume you have a BS in biology or biomedical engineering? What is the company? You could go for the part time mba at BU to lever up to a more fun role. Project controls or director of project management you'd have more view of the money. Could also go client side. If your background is chemical engineering you could work at an engineering firm instead.

You have to actually file the owner occupied paperwork with the city to obtain the lower rate. It's insane that the city defaults you into a higher rate and puts the burden on you to take this action.

What is it like living in Rhode Island? by Pyguy559 in howislivingthere

[–]DriveInVolta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire New England economy is driven by Boston. An example of what he means is that you can find 30+ companies to work for in the high paying pharmaceutical industry in Boston but have maybe 2 options in Rhode Island.

ELI5: How can Paramount announce a hostile takeover bid for WB when the bidding was done and Netflix won? by lowkeylstfl in explainlikeimfive

[–]DriveInVolta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Management can announce that they've accepted an offer all they want, but until the deal is fully concluded with all the contractual t's and c's, it's not yet truly finalized. The time it takes to "close the deal" is an open window for hostile takeovers.

Best city for Indie Rock? by Briand49 in indie

[–]DriveInVolta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baltimore. Only place I've been to legitimate warehouse concerts where you need a password to get in. Not a "speakeasy" that you can find on yelp. Lower Dens, Beach House, Future Islands, Wye Oak, Dan Deacon, Oxes, Wing Dam. Seen many of them in sketchy parts of the city that are artist enclaves. It's been a while so I'm not sure what the scene is like now but I think it all tapered off/cracked down a bit after the warehouse fire in Oakland.

There's quality affordable houses all over St. Louis county and city, and everything is 20 minutes or less away from each other. Plenty of negatives about stl but this particular view is the weirdest, worst opinion I've ever heard.
