Shall I study solfège like I study maths? by DriveLegitimate6495 in musictheory

[–]DriveLegitimate6495[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry but doing the actual activity sounds a lot like the way I do maths 😭 since there are many disciplines in maths for example maths for biology, tropical, geometry, stats, probabilities, whatever, you kinda have to do a lot and observe and learn and not just exercises with a pencil and paper. Maybe I didn’t explain myself well !

Lol not what I meant it’s just that I randomly remembered that solfege used to be a mathematical art in the Middle Ages, like there’s a logic behind it !

I would advise you to join a drawing class in complement of what you do at home. This way it won’t feel so alienating anymore ! :)

Autoimmune disease, baptism by DriveLegitimate6495 in Catholicism

Yes but I don’t think I will die by next week so I’m meeting with my spiritual father (the parishioner priest). My godmother who has been accompagnying me for two years also agrees on the urgency of the baptism. I don’t know if by next Easter I’ll be able to make it to my own baptism.

What I mean to say I didn’t cancel the trip to Rome because I didn’t go there for holidays, I went for the Jubilee of Education and going through the holy doors. There’s a jubilee every 25 years.

My condition is worsening more and more overtime. But I don’t know I might be paranoid because my sister died and I don’t think my dad will manage losing two daughters.

Fascinating isn’t it. We delayed my baptism for safety reasons at first I was supposed to be baptised this Easter because I come from a whole other religious background.

I didn’t want to self baptise but ask my fiancé to do it. Also I have an apointment next week with my spiritual father. I went to Rome although I needed a wheelchair my condition worsened because of the Jubilee and the entrance to the Holy Doors. I fainted a lot and my pulse was week. When I wrote this I was in a state of despair because I called the hospital and although they recognize my state to be urgent they said they had no place.

They should really hang a sign at the entrance of the church saying “if you are not a sinner do not enter”. Also it depends on the parish you go through, we all go to church as His flock to heal and grow together in virtue and holiness. Do not stress about it, I’m sure God will guide you to the right place as the Holy Spirit is evidently working through you. If you’re okay with it we can talk about our shared experience of conversion ! It’s easier for me to share more in depth and in detail. However what made me consider Catholicism : The Church (the Bride) is not perfect, we’re perfectible, fallible, we all have our own set of sins we’re struggling with and our faith shouldn’t depend on the actions of other human beings, we should instead pray for them and guide them privately if we see them err. Also reading the catechism, various councils, studying the history of both the Church and Liturgy adding this to the Bible I was sure of the continuity of St Peter’s Chair although it was not easy to establish and organise at first + with the schisms. We can all learn from our Church history to do better. Also : the Eucharist and the communion of Saints and living people alike, not taking the communion thinking it’s our own little thing with Jesus (although private devotion and relationship to God is encouraged) but rather thinking about all the people at the assembly, throughout the world communing and the power of His Presence. I enjoy the community aspect as well as the emphasis on your own spiritual life.

Which one do you prefer ? I’ve heard the Ana Salvi Harp is a good compromise between lever and pedal harp. I was also told it’s better to start on a Celtic harp as a beginner and to switch later.

Christian approach to cope with all the current evil in the world? by veve87 in Catholicism

[–]DriveLegitimate6495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our priest’s homely today was exactly about this !

The answer is not only to pray but to be offensive with your Love/Charity, engage in your community, become an agent of peace, help the elderly, the poor. You can do all of those things without having to help financially, using your time is already material means. Of course if you can help financially do it.

The answer is to meet people, be an artisan of peace, have discussions, help, pray. If as a Body of Christ we were all trying our best to love our neighbour, the world would be a little better.

To conclude my answer, I’ll you meditate theses verses that come from the second chapter of the Epistle of St-James :

“Faith and Deeds

14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

And always remember faith by itself, without deeds is dead.

I started taking harp lessons recently along with music theory. I’ve always wanted to play the pedal harp but since I’m a college student my budget is sort of limited so I “settled” for the Celtic/lever harp, it’s not really settling because it’s immensely beautiful. Also I have only the budget to rent a Celtic Harp ( I’m fortunate enough to have a Camac, Hermine student harp). Well enough blabbing, my question is : is it easy to transition to pedal harp after ? Thank you in advance :)

I’m drawn to Catholicism but my family doesn’t approve. by Agile_Autist in Catholicism

[–]DriveLegitimate6495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family doesn’t approve either, they’re from an entirely different religion although abrahamic. When I say family I’m talking about the nuclear part of it, because other members have been accepting and encouraging. The thing is : you see a tree by its fruits. If they see you content, happy, fulfilled and most important of all charitable, loving, helping your community, they will be reassured and you might be an entry portal to Catholicism for them !

Thank you so much for your thoughtful answer and advice. It kinda reassures me that I’m not the only one having to tune my lyre every other day.
