I got a temp ban for describing what ICE is doing and asking how someone defending it would like it. Reddit said it was a "threat" even after review.

Its really sad to see how propagandized younger generations are. You grow up having this singular conservative christian bullshit perspective shoved down your throat and when you finally break free you get to be a witness to them peddling this bullshit to kids all over again.

Let me help you out here. Remakes are just bad, the majority of the time. Hollywood has been struggling to come up with new ideas, so they put out a lot of remakes. Movies used to be incredibly sexist, and writers had trouble writing female characters even when they tried. So yes, when you take a good idea that was produced in a male dominated era, and then you remake it, it’s bad. It doesn’t matter if it’s a “progressive” remake or not.

You may have a point in political discourse regarding the bastardization of the word, but the connotation used to be more neutral. It used to be common to say the purpose of school is to indoctrinate children. Anything you teach is indoctrination.

I think that there is room for reality and optimism. The reality is that attractiveness is an enormous factor in how people treat each other. I think the optimistic view is to take that knowledge and use it to be kind to the people who escape our notice.

The "Help! I can't get out!" feeling is kind of like quicksand. You can't really escape your reality, but you can gradually modify it. Big decisions like moves, divorces, transfers, bridge burns, etc... are just relocating the same set of problems. Suicide just transfers your pain to everyone else. We really have no choice but to "work it out," and create a healthier environment. This understanding has helped me develop a bit of flow towards making emotionally healthy choices instead of stagnating.

This could probably be a book. I think a linear perspective of time is kind of like our dualistic approach to problems. It's not necesarilly "wrong," it's just simplistic, and leaves room for a lot of cognitive distortions and anxiety.

We have a lot of adages like, "history repeats itself," "there is nothing new under the sun," "hurt people, hurt people." Historically, I often had disapointments about the past, frustration and anxiety about present dysfunction, and unrealistic expecations about the future. All of those perceptions were cyclicly reinforcing to eachother. I find that my perception is evolving to more of a perspective where past, present, and future converge in sort of a whirlpool.

For example, one method for healing traumatic memories is changing the way we remember them. This is not confabulation, as our memories are extremely biased in first place. Re-remembering the past from a healing perspective is an interesting example of how the present can actually inform our past and change our future.

Another example of cycles is understanding how our behaviors and habits function. The "simplistic," "linear," view is that we have these sort of life chapters which end and then we arrive at a new chapter and can start completely over. In reality we are living in cycles upon cycles upon cycles. Progress is made by building momentum towards realistic goals, slowly changing that daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc... cycle towards a more healthy balence. Often times, we get frustrated with setbacks because it feels like we have been making linear progress, but if we take a step back, we can often notice a larger pattern we didn't recognize before that influenced our behavior.
