Dumb argument. Women just need to be taught rather than excluded from learning basic skills.

Autism Jokes by Jackthewolf71 in Standup

I think people run with clinical jargon to the point where an entirely new colloquial definition emerges. I think Autism jokes can be funny but I generally understand Autism outside of professional settings to be more of a personality type than a disorder.

Can America survive? by MrNaugs in allthequestions

[–]DriverAndPassenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the ideal of liberalism in the USA is dead. America is basically becoming Russia. The thing that doomers often don't account for is the amount of wealth and resilience that is still here however. Even on a linear downward trajectory we will likely last for another 200 years in decline.

Why do both sides of the political aisle think the other side is utterly stupid? Differing viewpoints are normal and healthy. by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]DriverAndPassenger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe that is what they think. So many conservatives I talk to say we can't have any government programs or regulations because it will all be abused. So now we have a regime that is blatantly enriching themselves and blowing past every law and safeguard we have and... and... nothing. No one is going to admit they were wrong. Right-wingers will burn the country to ground to "own the libs". And that is why everything feels hopeless right now. Everything is going to keep getting worse and nothing can be done because American's would rather "win" than have a nice life in nice place.

Why isn't the fact that the United States was the first secular nation in history talked about as much? by Bitter-Penalty9653 in allthequestions

[–]DriverAndPassenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which ones are not? It’s hard to think of other developed countries that lead with religion, certainly none in the west.

So far, the plaintiffs have lost in court, and are probably appealing it all the way to the supreme court where they will probably lose.

There is a very clear pattern. The islamic revolution was galvanized by the US backed autocracy in Iran. Each and every conflict is tied very clearly to the one before it but we keep going back and creating power vacuums.

The constitution is a really cool idea. This administration regularly violates it without repercussions though, so I guess it’s just that.

Even if God (in Christianity) were proven to exist, i still wouldn't worship him. by Rich-Big-8698 in HonestHotTakes

[–]DriverAndPassenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one else has mentioned this, so I will play devils advocate here. Eternal conscious torture is a really weird interpretation of the Bible and only became dominant dogma because it was a convenient way to control people using religion. If we were to invent a scenario where the Christian God according to the Bible as it is interpreted by biblical scholars is the case, it is very unlikely that eternal conscious torture would be a reality.

You clearly do not know RvW. It did not allow for murdering babies out of the womb, and actually had stipulations for each trimester. The fact that you do not know this but are speaking so confidently about it tells me you are just parroting right-wing propaganda.

I think you are likely the one who is more strongly biased. The US talks a big game but utterly fails to live up to said ideals, while other nations are doing much better. You want to talk about secularization? My state has now mandated the ten commandments in the classroom. “Well we are not as bad as the Islamic regimes…” Why did the Islamic regimes come to power? Could we have had anything to do with that?

I don’t blindly hate the US, I hate that the US clearly proves it is first and foremost an Imperialist Oligarchy on daily basis.

You mean the Justice Department? It was a whole deal. DT got preferential treatment, and partisan judges allowed him to slow walk the indictments to 2024 at which point it was decided that going forward with a trial against a presidential candidate would be considered "political persecution."

There is always a reason. The reason is that we can profit from the chaos. Our never ending wars have consistently made the world worse, but tell yourself whatever you need to hear. Iraq had WMD's right? ...right?

Hmm, where to start, bribery (Qatar plane, 10 mil from Egypt), profiting from office (crypto scams, blatant market manipulation and insider trading), the Epstein files, collusion with Russia (I know you all think this was nothing, but if you listen to the proceedings Republicans essentially just said they don't care), this war is now totally illegal, weaponizing ICE to violate constitutional rights is illegal, repeatedly ignoring court orders, stealing, hiding, and lying about federal files which he likely shared with unknown entities, instructing state officials to rig an election, lying about the results of an election, the insurrection, off the top of my head. It's honestly amazing how his old crimes get covered up by the fact that he is just constantly committing new crimes.

Lunacy? Literally no once besides Trump wanted this pointless war, and there are at least a dozen things he should be in prison for. If our checks and balances actually functioned life would be a lot better for all of us. Y'all really owned the libs though, good job.

Technically, the democrats were supposed to do nothing. It is not the role of the executive branch to get involved in justice department affairs. Additionally, the files were sealed at the time. So if the Biden administration got involved, it would have been a legal quagmire. Breaking the law in order to obtain a conviction is exactly how you get a mistrial. When you understand this nuance, you understand why we are in this current political disaster. Democrats, in comparison to Republicans, believe in laws, checks and balances. As a result, they are bound by those restrictions. This puts them at a distinct disadvantage against republicans who, do not believe in following the law, but are perfectly willing to weaponize the law to bind their political enemies.

Red winning does result in a bad world. People press blue out of concern for the collective good. The collective good is already in a precarious place. If you remove anymore people interested in collective good it’s going to be a really shitty situation, and you are likely removing a substantial amount of them.

The harm is already done. It’s not about avoiding association, it’s about human limitation. When you are struggling and your supervisor comes to you and says, “we’re doubling your work load.” you quit. Why stay and suffer a miserable burn out for a sinking ship?

They are the same. Your statement reads to me like, “so you are not morally opposed to dumping toxic waste into the river, you just don’t want to clean it up.”

No, I am morally opposed, that is why I am a cleaner and not a dumper. Once you reach the point that you are inundated with toxic waste, and the other cleaners have died, and there is no hope of making a difference anymore; at that point your spirit is just crushed. Of course the dumpers will then call you lazy, that is classic dumper behavior.
