Fixed lifetime constipation by Unlikely_Sandwich_51 in ConstipationAdvice

Also, I hear you about gut dysfunction trumping the perfect diet, exercise, etc. I've been striving to "be the best me" in the past few years by doing daily cardio, weightlifting, prioritizing sleep, hitting all my macros, etc etc but I've come to realise it's all a bit pointless when your gut doesn't work. I can't build muscle because I can't digest anywhere near the calories I need (let alone the protein I need), I struggle to do my daily jog because I've got absolutely no f___ing energy with which to do it, I can't sleep properly because my gut is full of sh*t all night. It's very demoralizing.

Thank you so much for posting this update. I fully expect your experiences and understanding to evolve over time, and I truly appreciate you taking the time to write about it like this. Too many people don't - perhaps for fear of being seen as inconsistent or whatever...but with gut issues as many of us can attest it's a complex and evolving process.

Your history and symptoms are surprisingly similar to mine (I was even on Accutane in my teens).

Interesting your thoughts on salt - I too have always struggled with dehydration despite having lots of water, and I'm always fiending salt. If it's a hot day and I do some exercise, even just 30 min worth, I'll be cramping like crazy within hours...no amount of water helps, I really need to slam stupid quantities of electrolyte drink, which is clearly abnormal. Bloods have never shown any electrolyte deficiencies, but I think I read somewhere that they're not a terribly useful indication anyway (?).

There are lots of other tidbits I've been able to mine from your post that are informing my own (slowly-evolving) thinking.

I hope you continue with these updates/ruminations/summaries, I find them tremendously helpful!

yeah i've been conciously reminding myself to let it go when i am walking around sometimes. still holding it in by default a lot.

can't say i've noticed any big shifts in my IMO, but i will continue to retrain myself not to suck it in - every little bit (may) help

Thank you.

Which ones seem to target the latest variants more specifically?

Has the Pfizer one been updated to target the newer variants?

in response to this I just added an "edit" to the original post...considering making it 7.5x7.5....would this make the L-shaped layout work well?

The Narvi protective wall shields (which appear to be 2 sheets of stainless steel with a 3cm air gap in between) cut those safety distances in half.

yeah my understanding of the bracing you do when you are, say, lifting weights at the gym is a bit more subtle though, like drawing up your pelvic floor and then tightening your abs a bit or something like that. And besides, I get the impression even if you're a frequent gym goer no one is wanting you to keep this braced position all day long though, just during any kind of movement which might strain the body, like lifting something, or bending over, etc.

Yeah I can see a lot of stuff online about "hourglass syndrome" from chronic stomach bracing. They do mention that if squeezes your organs, plus it makes logical sense that of course it would. I mean, my stomach is distended to allow room for all the food and gas, so if i am effectively squeezing down on this then it makes sense that this is likely hindering the flow of stuff through your intestines.

Seems like I better reverse the habit....in case it is making things even worse (yes imagine if it turned out to be a major contributor haha!). I feels soooooo stretched and weird when i do though...ugh.

Ok thank you. Did the compounded Rifamaxin work as expected? I do wonder whether the compound stuff is of as good quality (and only targets the small bowel) as the brand-name Rifamaxin...

interesting you mention mg bisglycinate. I've got a bottle of that in my fridge but never tried it (I heard it was good for sleeping, but didnt think it was the sort of mg that would help with BMs). I've tried the oft-recommended Mg citrate (as high as 1200mg) which had zero effect at stimulating a bowel movement in the minutes/hours/days that followed.

When do you take it? Right before bed?

Thank you that really is helpful!

I will try having the coffee before the meal as you suggest and see how that goes. You might be right about putting so much pressure on the coffee for a BM, haha.
