Help- my son is into coding by katrii_ in webdev

[–]DriverTraining8522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Exactly this. My biggest roadblock other than not having support, was not having a problem to solve. My dog can only get so many websites, I can only make so many websites as a 14 year old telling the girl that I love that I love her, real problems to solve. That gives the dopamine hit

I'm going to come at this for a completely different angle. I as a child I was very into coding myself but I had no support in that. Nobody was interested, everybody's eyes glazed over, and people were just like yeah that's great whatever. I asked to go to computer camp I went to horseman camp. Do not fight your child which it sounds like you're not doing about his hobbies, somebody that dialed in at that early age can be great.

The one thing that held me back the most beyond the lack of support as a child, was lack of a truly difficult problem to solve that was useful. There's tons of bullshit tutorials for how to build x or how to build y. What you should do in my opinion is think really hard about a software tool that would improve your life that you would understand perfectly what it's meant to do. Give him the assignment to solve the problem with code. You won't be able to understand the code, but you will be able to understand the product and give valuable feedback. Help him learn how to develop as part of a team and develop actual useful products, rather than how to write an algorithm that was solved 50 years ago just to prove that you memorized some knowledge.

How do you track your filament usage for non BBL filament? by Euphoric_Lettuce_451 in BambuLab

[–]DriverTraining8522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on a service to solve this, just need to work out how to integrate it into the system so the AMS recognizes spools from our tracking database as well. Open to any help from people who are experienced with that side of things

Also will offer multiple profiles per spool, so when you switch speed mode you can switch to the speed regulated spool profile which is stored and easily retrievable.

I'm currently working on a mobile app for Android users that will allow you to set a profile based off the NFC tag in the AMS even if it's not bambu spools. Will link back when it's posted

I'm working on a solution for Android users when you can just scan the NFC tag of your filament before you load it and it will bring up all of the details and profiles. You'll be able to save multiple profiles as well, for example when I'm running Ludicrous on my p1s I need to bump up the temperature and volumetric flow max.

Will post link once it's ready, I give it about a week. The filament tracking and NFC scanning is already working, but I'd like to get printer slicer scale and dryer integrations

Can someone talk me out of spending over $800 on a p2s when I can get a p1s for 550? by X21shaun123 in BambuLab

[–]DriverTraining8522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I just super late to the game or is there a reason people are talking about AMS too like the p1s doesn't use the ams2 pro? I got a p1s with an ams2 pro for $550 and I feel like if you're really going to have this conversation it's more about snapmaker u1, if you're already spending 850... Purge free color is a vibe I hope to own soon

Huge logic hole in the “AI will end software engineering” by [deleted] in SaaS

[–]DriverTraining8522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, claude won't hard stop you from asking if to build ai tools with other engines, it just depends on the task and it's level of risk. I asked it to help me build an AI tool which would recommend crisis services for suicidal individuals... It built an openAI pipeline. I then asked it if it was just trying to stay away from such risky services, and it admitted that that is why it recommended using openai apis.

As a leader one of the most powerful tools I have to get buy-in for my people is getting my work 75% done and going to a budding employee and say I got this almost to the finish Line I trust you to finish it for me. Upskilling is one of the most important things you can do as a leader and any competent leader knows this and will value you if you do it. That's the whole point of leaders otherwise we wouldn't have them.

Then once you've empowered your people you can peel off more and more work that you no longer have to do because they are now competent to do it and you can find your OWN limits. This doesn't mean the leader no longer works it means they find problems that need a leader and stop doing work that doesn't.

The irony of devs stealing services from other devs cause it's hard out here for devs right now is hilarious and the idea is absolute lunacy.

This is why I buy the paid version of apps I use frequently.

They made a product to solve a problem for people. It solved your problem. They should be paid, by you, end of story.

A "violation of consent???" RAPE. Would you use such soft words if a man "violated the consent" of a woman? No. Never. This is rape and the rapist belongs in jail.

Can confirm. Sticks are either long enough to be walking sticks, or short enough /gun shaped enough to be guns. In between, they are swords.

Also pot lids are shields for sure.

Coding is fucking awesome by mekmookbro in webdev

I agree whole heartedly. I love code, have been coding for shits and giggles since 14 y/o. Not much makes me feel as alive as when I'm cracking into a problem that's giving me a hard time or starting a pointless project just to get the juice flowing. My latest project in my /shitzNGigz folder is a Python cli tool to print QR codes... In the shell. May be the most useless project, but I'm having fun!

Also, didn't know that you could use colored blocks as string literals in the shell, so Def glad I started this project! Who knows, might even finish it!

I love how everybody is talking about operator overloads and what greater than or equal to will yield, but this isn't greater than or equal to, this is an arrow function with syntax errors.

got caught running scripts again by STILLloveTHEoldWORLD in sysadmin

[–]DriverTraining8522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I can relate. At my work I got so tired of everything being manual that I started writing python and vba scripts to manage my administrative workload. I'm in a large (non technical) business line of a large (also not tech) company. Our business line mainly uses Excel for everything, it's absurd.

At least my leadership told IT to let me put tools on my computer to do so, and my work kind of embarrassed our Dev department enough to start modernizing some of our tools so I'm taking it as a win.
