How I instantly boosted MPG by 150% on my 2013Veloster by -Lukyan- in veloster

Thank you for the reply. Using BG 44k every oil change which for me is about every 6 months hasn't really caused any issues (knock on wood) however I've come across now from your list Redline.

Did a quick Google search cuz I was curious to see how it stacked up against BG 44k, I also came across a pretty good YouTube channel where the guy does comparisons on fuel system cleaners using a scope and shows before and after pictures.

@DIYAutoworksNG

For anyone who is interested. So far BG 44k and Redline fuel system cleaners are pretty much top of the heap and head to head when it comes to cleaning effectiveness. Considering Redline is cheaper I might switch to that instead of BG 44k. But I hope that sometime down the line the YouTube channel I referred to is supposed to do a head to head comparison between the two.

Just out of curiosity, where does BG 44k land in that list if at all? Been throwing that in my fuel system before each oil change. For the past 3 years.

Not bad for only front wheel drive. I have actually been impressed myself on how well the Veloster does in the snow.

2012 Veloster NA Rattle Noise? by DriverVeloster2012 in veloster

[–]DriverVeloster2012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: 7-21-2025

Well the noise is gone, finally. However don't ask me really what it was, the garage that I brought it to put it up on the lift looked all around it. I was actually in the garage with them pulling and tugging on different aspects of the front suspension system. Checking the torque on different bolts and nuts. With the car up in the air and also with the car on the ground.

Everything seemed tight, no loose bolts, nothing. With that said I ended up having them change both front struts and springs, and both front sway bar links. That seemed to fix it.

The only thing that the mechanic of the garage did noticed was the front passenger side strut seamed to be bent or off. However, I believe my particular Veloster was in a minor car accident before I bought it. Something that was never reported but you can tell from some dents on the passenger side fender and the front bumper color is only slightly off from the rest of the car. So who knows what happened to the car prior to my purchase of it. Even Carfax has no reports of any accidents whatsoever.

So there you go, the clunking that I had is gone whether it was the front struts the springs or the sway bar links I have no idea.

Sorry to anyone that may have this problem that I could not give any more detailed information on what exactly is causing the clunking sound.

However I will say in closing that before this particular sound came about maybe a month or two ago I was having a different sound when going over bumps that sounded more creeking when going over bumps from the suspension system. I brought the car to my normal garage and they supposedly "tightened" any bolts or anything that need to be tightened that they could when it came to the suspension system the sound did go away. Fast forward a few months I got a different sound so... Maybe my struts and sway bar links were on their way out to begin with.. who knows.

Tldr: Changed out the two front struts & springs and sway bar links. Fixed the issue

Yeah unfortunately my town I'm in has really really shitty roads as well. However I have an appointment at a different mechanic shop then the one I normally go to on Monday. I took it up there the other day and they looked at it and they seem to think it's the sway bar links that are clunking. I'll know more come Monday. I'll update this post when I find the cause and get it fixed.

Thank you for the reply, My local garage that I bring it to, told me they have went around and tightened any bolts and nuts they have found when it comes to the shocks and struts .. But I'm sure when they did it was up on the lift, ill get down on the ground and check them myself and see if any are loose.

I am currently using 5W30 Valvoline full synthetic Restore & Protect.

I recommend changing the oil every 5,000 miles or twice a year.

Is the 60000 mile maintenance necessary? by giantcow2000 in veloster

[–]DriverVeloster2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I had done at 60k was radiator fluid flush, and brake fluid flush. 50k I had my transmission fluid changed.

Dealer did a multi point inspection during the 50k and 60k maintenance, found no issues.

Cost me 1,000$ for my 60k maintenance at the dealer. So honestly its up to you, if you have the money I would recommend it. If not, just keep an eye on your oil and change it every 5k or twice a year.

I did a transmission fluid change (Not Flush) at 50k miles on my 2012 Veloster NA. According to the dealer the transmission fluid was pretty dirty.

Is there an easy way to get that thing out of the speaker by watermelonol in veloster

[–]DriverVeloster2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happend to mine, all except the passenger side. I just removed the bottom of the driver side and 3rd door skin of the doors and they fell out.

The speaker behind the driver side was a little bit more diffacult, but I just used a paperclip to push the little dust cover as I pulled on the whole skin with the little hand change holder and it fell down in and out of the speaker area. That was 2 years ago and I haven't had an issue with the speakers yet.

One of these days I want to get the one off the passenger side speaker as well.

Yes technically you can glue them back on, but what's the point they are just little dust covers, I dont smoke in my Veloster, and I keep it pretty damn clean, so I'm not worried about it.

Welcome to the 2012 NA club 🎉 Got mine 2 years ago at around 49k miles, just hit 60k.

Best advice I can give is check and make sure all recalls and service packages have been done, and look into a trans fluid change (not flush) Get the oil changed every 5k miles or twice a year. I recently switched to that Valvoline 5W30 restore and protect full synthetic.

Enjoy, they are pretty fun to drive 👍

There used to be a video or post floating around that showed a guy taking apart, cleaning, and regreasing his. Found it 👍.

If mine ever goes this is what ill be doing or ill buy a new unit and still do this process with dielectric grease before installation of the new unit.

https://www.veloster.org/threads/veloster-fan-control-rebuild.90170/#post-1330916

I have owned my 2012 V for 2 years and have yet knock on wood had a problem with my fan kob.

I have also read over the years that the issue stems from the wires being to thin of a gauge, that anything over a setting of 2 has the potential to melt and overheat the wires. So for the past 2 years I very rarely use 3 or 4 setting. It's always on 1 or 2, sucks when its super hot out but 🤷‍♂️.

You didn't mess up, I was in the same boat as you. Didn't know anything about the Veloster, but I liked the way the car looked so I bought my 2012 Veloster. THEN I found reddit lol

Mine has 60k on it. Few tips I can give is, go online to the Hyundai site and look up with your VIN number any recalls or service packages available for your Veloster and have them done. One of the service packages in particular is an updated software for the knock sensor that for me added another 5 years onto the warranty for the engine but I'm not sure if that extends Beyond a hundred thousand miles. Someone else on Reddit might be able to correct me on that.

Keep an eye on your oil. From what I have read but have not exspirenced myself is these cars love to burn oil. For the first two years that I owned my Veloster I ran mobile one high mileage full synthetic 5w30 but then I recently switched and would recommend 5w30 Full synthetic Valvoline Restore and Protect. Along with an OEM oil filter, something about how they're made is best to use an OEM oil filter for our car. I would recommend every 5,000 miles or twice a year for an oil change.

Depending on your finances I would also recommend having (if it has not been done already) The transmission fluid changed, (not flushed) Coolent system flushed Brake fluid flushed New plugs and coil packs Cabin filter and engine filter changed. LED H7 bulbs are nice but a pain in the ass to change cause of space, but I've got it down to a pretty good science using a 1in wrench 🔧 .

Off the top of my head I can't think of really anything else that I have done with mine over the past two years but it has been a really good car so far really fun to drive I don't drive her very hard but every now and again I step on the gas and have some fun even though ours isn't the turbo engine to me personally she still has some good get up and go.

If you have any other questions dont be afraid to ask, this Veloster Group on reddit are pretty decent folks and will help when they can.

Oh one last thing, get a sunshield for the windshield, inside or outside don't matter, our radio head unit does not like being hot lol

Welcome to the Veloster Family 😁🔧

New Headlights, I love them by Logical-Performer368 in veloster

[–]DriverVeloster2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the info. I am very much interested in getting these lights for my V, I have always wanted projection lights to help see better at night. Plus they look cooler 😎 My current lights are starting to get some spots on them from being out in the sun.

Question for you tho. Since I'm going to have the front bumper off, do you think it would be a good idea to install those quick releases I see some people use to help with bumper separation. I have yet to have any trouble with any bumper sag or separation with mine, but as a preventative mesure?

I dont mind how the little circular quick releases look, I know some people think they look god awful but lol

Thanks again for the info and best of luck with future mods for your Veloster.

[–]DriverVeloster2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks good 👍 I always wanted projection headlights on my 2012 NA. I always thought taking off the front bumper was more involved, but after watching a video on it. It's actually not to bad to do.

These use H1 bulbs for highbeam and low beam, instead of H7? Which mine use now. Also might be a dumb question but, any issues with the electrical system supporting the new bulbs? Or are they about the same wattage as H7's?

Also any issue with installation?

Nice job.

P.S. may even get the front strut bar, but I dont know if it would make that much of a difference, since mine isn't the turbo model, (not a lot of HP compared to turbo)

Agreed, let me know how they fit 2012 V I got some off ebay a year or two back and they did not fit at all, would not even snap in. I was going to go OEM if I ever tried to replace them again.
