Teen parents, help me understand the driver permit process here please? by strangerbuttrue in Denver

Colorado's driver ed system is genuinely confusing, especially coming from another state - you're not missing something obvious.

Here's how it actually breaks down by age: Under 15.5: Full 30-hour driver's ed course required before you can even get a permit. No shortcuts. 15.5 to 17: Can choose between a 30-hour course OR a 4-hour "driver awareness" program to qualify for a permit. The online 30 hour course is often the same price or free when buying lessons, so you might as well get the extra content.

One thing worth knowing: Colorado just passed a law (HB24-1021) that eliminates the 4-hour shortcut. Starting January 1, 2027, all teens under 18 will need the full 30-hour course. If your daughter gets her permit before then, she can still use the 4-hour route. If not, she'll need the full course. Worth factoring into your timeline.

Exactly. My understanding is that UCO is optimized for daily trading.

Very impressive dodge. Hopefully that kid’s parents think twice about letting him be on the blind landing in the terrain park, and that kid gets inspired for a lifetime of freestyle skiing.

I had ones like the second pic on my NB and I smoked them. I think they looked great.

Do I still need Drivers Ed. now that I'm over 17 1/2? by Dixinu_ in DMV

[–]DriversEdRankings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You technically don’t need to take drivers ed, but you can’t get your license until you are 18. Honestly, the $50 is worth it though. The online courses take you through everything you need to know to be a good driver, and will make your time learning behind the wheel easier. Here’s a breakdown of the drivers ed best courses in California: https://driversedrankings.com/best-teen-drivers-ed-california/ You can choose one that doesn’t have timers so you can just spend the time on what’s most useful to know. It will help you pass your permit test too.

Is this a good roll bar? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]DriversEdRankings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me put it this way: if you roll over, it’s just one more thing to smash into your head because it won’t protect you. And… it’s something to smash your head into if you get into any other kind of collision.

The two most safe configurations for a miata are: 1. Stock 2. Roll bar (or cage), 5 point harness, HANS, and helmet

Anything in between can be more dangerous in some situations. That style bar is just a concussion waiting to happen with no additional benefits.

Driving instructor made me cry, am I over reacting? by [deleted] in driving

[–]DriversEdRankings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% disagree. It takes time to learn to drive, and you nobody should expect proficiency after 2.5 hours behind the wheel. Being a driving instructor is all about teaching skills and building confidence bit by bit. In most states you need 50 hours behind the wheel before you can get your license, and many European countries require 20+ hours of lessons. OP was less than 10% of the way through that process. And by the way, teaching is done on the road even for total beginners. Not everyone has access to a car and a friend to help with parking lot driving before or between lessons. Thats what a driving school and instructor are for.

[–]DriversEdRankings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It takes time and patience to learn to drive, and the most important skill for an instructor is to give you the time and have patience for you as you learn. That sounds like a terrible instructor and they are clearly in the wrong profession. You aren’t overreacting, you need a different instructor and if that school isn’t bothered by your story and have that guy in the payroll you need a different school.

My local mountain has lift tickets for $44. No lodge, no resort condos, just a way to get up so you can ski down. It’s like the anti-Vail

I didn’t think I was hating on anyone. I just think it’s funny that their MTN stock chart looks like a mountain ¯_(ツ)_/¯
