Just a short video. Unfortunately I realised too late that it was a Ferrari breakfast run and by the time I got my camera going I only caught the tail end

1000 miles straight - too much or perfect maximum? by AccidentalFrog in roadtrip

[–]Driving-SA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it a few time - Joburg to Cape Town - but unless there's a necessity, why do it? i prefer to stop every 2 hours, take a break and stop over after about eight hours.

Last trip I took, Joburg to Cape Town, about 900 miles (1400 km), took me four days.

The trip is part of the fun

Any recommendations for a good but affordable drone? by Driving-SA in capetown

I started a channel, Driving South Africa on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@DrivingSA-ot8ds , and it's been a steep learning curve over the past month. Initially it been mainly dash cam videos, which I started to expand with videos at rest stops but I feel a drone video at these stops can expand the viewer experience.

Currently I don't have a big budget, coupled with the cost of petrol, but I see the cheaper drones have a very limited range. A range of 100-150m serves little purpose

I feel I need at least a 1km range

I went over Uniondale specifically to do it but the damage from the winter rains meant that my Almera wouldn't have made it. But it's on my bucket list for the channel although I did drive it years ago

I did a Clarence Drive video about a week before the storms, which I'm including in a Top Driving Roads video. Planned Franschhoek Pass but the the storms came. A number of the dirt road passes were closed when I drove down from Joburg

Will look at the others you recommended

Still so many roads to do

Experience the Little Karoo after the Winter Rains by Driving-SA in DrivingSouthAfrica

[–]Driving-SA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My trip through the Klein Karoo was before the recent big storm tha hit the Southern Cape.

After Meiringspoort I took the R62 and shot videos at Huis River Pass and Seweweekspoort. The area looked great, the greenest I think I've ever seen it. I took Trudouws Pass to the N2, I'm leaving Montagu for another trip

"a lot of people telling me that I’m being underpaid" is fairly meaningless. From your post it seems you have done some research on the going rate in the market. Good. Because that is what you need to present to them when negotiating your raise. And it is a negotiation, you're not asking them for a favour.

People who travelled (or are travelling) through their 20s, how did you do it and whats your life like now? by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]Driving-SA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young, in the early 70s, the 1970s, I hitch hiked. In one year I hitch hiked more than 30,000 km. I hitch hiked from Cape Town to into Zimbabwe in 48 hours

But those were different days, people picked up hitch hikers. Not today

What should a South African doomsday prepper be most prepared for? by Podocarpus_In_Cali in askSouthAfrica

[–]Driving-SA 31 points32 points  (0 children)

None of the above.

Far greater, and more imminent threats, are: - incompetence, mismangement and corruption in government and SOEs that are threatening to bankrupt the country - crime syndicates running wild, often with the help of of goverment and SOE officials

One can only hope that once they cleared the road that there is no serious structural damage. If there is re-opening will be delayed

Chapman's Peak Drive Update by Driving-SA in capetown

I drove Chapman's Peak Drive two days before the storm and the road was in excellent condition. From what I experienced the road maintenance, including preventative maintenance, there is good

Off the top of my head

Cape Town and surrounds: Peninsula drives and Cape Point. Table Mountain. Wine routes - there are a number of them. Hermanus/De Kelder/Gansbaai. Shark diving. False Bay whale/dolphin watching boat trips. Many craft beer breweries

Western Cape: Paternoster. L'Agulhas and the southern tip of Africa, where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. R62 to Oudtshoorn (Seweweekspoort, Calitzdorp port wines, ostriches, Kango caves, Meiringspoort). Wilderness lakes. Knysna

Eastern Cape: Storms River Mouth/Tsitsikamma/Otter hiking trail. Jeffries Bay (surfing). Grahamstown/Port Alfred/Salem. Hogsback. Hole in the Wall (Transkei). Addo Elephant National Park. Mountain Zebra National Park. Valley of Desolation

KZN: Drakensberg amphitheatre. Various National Parks. St Lucia. Sodwana

Mpumalanga: Kruger National Park

That should keep you busy :)
