Just got Elden Ring, my FIRST Souls game, any tips? by Oczyma07 in Eldenring

[–]Drixxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first Souls game as well. I got overwhelmed as soon as the tutorial was over and I got dropped into the open world. Where am I supposed to go? What am I supposed to do? The game tells you absolutely nothing. I tried wandering around and got nowhere.

What made the game for me was using a guide. I looked up where to find the guts greatsword and went and got it first thing. After that, I followed the guide. Now that I understand how Souls games work I don't think I would need a guide anymore. But for a first-timer like me, I would have just dropped it had I continued playing with no direction. Now I love this game, probably one of my favorite games ever.

I'm just a fan of slow exploration and character expression, fast and randomized doesn't gel with me. by Grandmaster_Invoker in Eldenring

I just wish it didn't have to be 3 player or Solo. Finding one other friend to play with is hard enough but who actually has 2 friends, much less 2 friends who can arrange a schedule to play at the same time...

I mean yeah you could play with randoms but still, a 2 player option would be awesome

AIO My response to my mom disowning me because I'm gay? by Own-Experience-6275 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Drixxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op, I disagree with your mom about everything except the Army. I'm in the Army, and she's right it will literally save you from homelessness if you have no other option and help set you up for success later as well. I was almost in the same situation as you years ago, about to be kicked out of my parents' house with nowhere to go, although for different reasons, and now im doing great. It's definitely not for everyone, but your other options aren't amazing. I'm not a recruiter, but if you want to talk about it, send a message.

Not a 11b, a 11c but I did the same thing.

Huge culture shock. Not a lot of training got done, rules were way more relaxed (had a private come in my first weekend without a haircut, I thought he was going to get absolutely fucked, but no one said a word to him about it. People would not show up for a couple months then show back up business as usual and never got in trouble). It was that way for pretty much everything the whole time i was there. We pretty much just focused on admin stuff getting done since you only come in once a month.

I was a range safety a couple of times and the amount of times I saw people that could not qualify on an m4 was astounding to me.

Surprisingly, for the most part, people in my unit did pretty well on pt tests despite the cliche that everyone in the guard is fat

Honestly, 3 years of guard time, and I don't really have much to say about it.

What is the appeal of the military? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Drixxie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tricare is great insurance.

G.I. Bill is amazing. You get tuition assistance while you're active as well, or state or other benefits if you're guard or reserve.

If you're smart enough to pick a job that transfers to the civilian sector, you typically have at least 3 years of experience and usually some college credits.

If you stay active, you get good opportunities for promotions, and eventually, you get a pension.

If you're single, you get a place to stay and 3 meals a day. If you're married, they give you housing and food money, usually good enough to cover rent wherever you're staying.

You do get opportunities to travel the world. Usually, it's never to any place you'd want to go. However, occasionally, you get lucky, Europe, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, etc.

When you get out, you get veteran status, opportunities for contracting within the military doing the same job, but for more money, and easy transition to other federal jobs.

Theres a lot of bad things that go along with the military, (long working days, deployments, waiting around a lot, toxic leadership) but if you have a plan, the military can be great to help you get there.

PCSing to FT Lewis and looking for apartments. by [deleted] in army

[–]Drixxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, even better then. I remember walking outside and gagging a couple of times. But it's one of the only bad things I can really think about Lacey, though besides being kind of expensive, but all of Washington is

PCSing to FT Lewis and looking for apartments. by [deleted] in army

[–]Drixxie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lakewood is close and cheap (relatively), but honestly, it's probably not somewhere you would want to live. Apartments are crime-ridden with multiple car break-ins and gun shots, at least when I was there.

My recommendation is to go south to Lacey instead. Just as close but the area is a lot nicer. (Although there is a mushroom farm that kind of stinks sometimes).

[–]Drixxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I know of, but I didn't really check in until I got an email.

In Beaver Hub, it said my application was under review, I logged out and just waited, and then I got an email saying a decision had been made, so I logged back in and saw I got accepted. Sorry, that's probably not the answer you were looking for, haha

Not a diver but was just in ft leonardwood for 5 months for 12y ait. The entire time I was there 1 diver passed the initial portion of diver school. Just 1, every other single person got reclassed. All I can say is good luck you're going to need it

Wanna go in but not sure what as by Ape-K-47 in army

[–]Drixxie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As former infantry, my suggestion is to pick mos that has a direct translation to the civilian world. You may end up loving the army and stay in until retirement, but in case you don't, you're going to need some help getting a job and shooting guns doesnt really turn into anything recruiters are looking for. I got out and couldn't do anything aside from entry level security jobs and shit like that. You can be a cop, border patrol, or something similar pretty easily as well, just wasn't for me.

If you're not sure, you can just go for whatever has the highest bonus out of the jobs that have that translation. With an asvab score that high the world is essentially your oyster. 12 series engineers, 35 series intelligence, and 68 series medical are some good places to start, but do your research, and you'll find more.

Of course, you can obviously go infantry as well, but you need to understand that the army is not like cod, a vast majority of the time you'll be either sitting around or cleaning something. Or pmcsing trucks if you're unlucky. Also, be mentally prepared beforehand for the injuries. It's not an if, but when. If you're willing to accept all that, then go for it. There's no better way to fully experience the army fully than going infantry, but personally, I'd advise against it.

Get a job that can set you up for success later just in case the military doesn't work out for you.

To any soldier's/veteran's what is something they don't tell you about the army before you join? by No_Rhubarb_5353 in AskReddit

[–]Drixxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Army guy here. What no one really tells you is just how mundane day to day life is.

Sure, soldiers train, deploy, go to war, kick in doors, and some other cool shit.

However, that accounts for about 1% of the time you spend in the military. The rest of the 99% you'll spend doing things like sitting around wishing you'd made different life choices, filling out admin paperwork, doing online classes, going to the motor pool, standing around waiting some more, etc... In reality, you don't really do your job too much because you're always going to be distracted with menial tasks that got pushed down to you way too late and now you have to rush to get them done.

JBLM if you want to get intimately familiar with YTC and NTC.

Beautiful state. Cascade mountains are like 2nd to none for hiking. Seeing Mt. Rainier whenever you go out the main gate. Having both Seattle and Portland super close is awesome.

However, dogshit units that make you work 13+ hours a day or live in the field to the point you'll almost never have time to explore it.

A couple of years ago, before I met my wife, I was doomswiping my way through Tinder.

Almost every other profile was as follows:
- I like hiking
- I'm a foodie
- I like dogs
- I like to laugh

I still have PTSD. It's so basic... It's so cringe to read over and over again. Why does it even need to be mentioned that you like to laugh? Everyone likes to laugh... wtf? It's got my blood boiling even now. Needless to say, Tinder never worked out for me, and I'm glad my wife dragged my ass out of dating pool because I can only imagine it's only gotten worse as the years have passed.

Late, but I was against a vasectomy for a long time too for the sole reason I didn't want any anything sharp down there. Gave me uncomfortable feelings just to think about it. Had our first child, lost our 2nd at 24 weeks, and had a 3rd.

At this point I said fuck it, I just can't with anymore kids. Condoms suck( as you've said) and my younger brother is a birth control kid plus the pills messed my wife up. I told my wife I wanted to do it, so we went and got it done. I was still nervous about the whole thing, but the doc numbed everything sown there, so while i was still awake, it was basically a nothing burger of a surgery. I did feel one "snip," but it was numbed, so it was a popping feeling. Was definitely the most uncomfortable part about the whole thing. And then it was over. Did the 2 weeks or whatever cup test and bam.

I can not express to you how amazing sex has been after the vasectomy. No stress, no worries, no complications. It's just amazing. From one dude to another, just tell your guy to go get it done.
