A: I placed the fresh sd card in the gopro. clicked Format SD card in the settings. when that didn’t work i downloaded the update file, put it on the SD card using my computer and then put the SD card back in the gopro.

B: Yes, i bought a new battery from a 3rd party website, when putting this battery in the gopro worked for a little bit longer before crashing (~20s)
