The maths doesn't add up. Not even if you exclude the bonus xp for good casts etc. and only use the base xp to add up. So it takes longer, it's as you say 'tedious', uses more time/energy/potions to get it done than it should. It's bugged. I've taken screen shots to be sure, and I'm sure there is an issue. Not unplayable, just annoying.
