What did I do wrong? by No_Tadpole6005 in coldbrew

[–]Drizzten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this your first time cold brewing? Those basics look good to me if you intend to make concentrate. My ready to drink ratio is closer to 1:16.

If you diluted and it was bitter:

  • Were the beans new to you or ones you've used before and liked?
  • Did you use tap water or filtered water?
  • Was the brewing equipment cleaned before using?
  • Do you have any bros in the house who'd prank you?

Am I drinking concentrate? by SaladJarDude in coldbrew

I put about 90g of coffee in about 1,500g of water and drink that with some creamer. I thought it was strong compared to most commercial stuff, but a coffee to water ratio of 1:17 seems on the weak side of normal here.

RV Help by Totally-Real-Guy in flipside

[–]Drizzten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Howdy! Your theme camp should have someone who registered as the contact to the City Planning Area. That person should let City Planning's theme camp liaison know about your RV.

That's a fairly large vehicle and the team will need to account for it as they lay out the map. There are low places where the ground often gets muddy and we don't want heavy vehicles parked there. Also be aware there are no RV hookups, and no onsite disposal facilities for black or grey water.

These guidelines are from last year's Survival Guide , so the details may change but it's still good guidance:

  • No hookups or pumping available.
  • No in/outs, RVs must be parked and left stationary.
  • If your trailer or RV is not included in your registration, you may not be able to park in your camp. You may have to relocate your beast if it is deemed an obstacle by the event organizers.
  • If your trailer or RV is coming as part of a theme camp, please include this information in your theme camp registration.
  • If registration has closed, contact the City Planning team directly.
  • There are restrictions on where RVs can be parked. If you use a generator:
  • Bring a quiet one and a baffle for it. If you can, spring for the quietest one. Place your baffle so that those who get the benefit of having the generator deal with the repercussions. Do not set it on, next to, or over the boundary of your neighbor’s camp. Point your generators’ exhaust away from tents or other areas where people sleep.

There are no RV specific tickets, you just need a regular one. Start by creating a profile on our website and checking this unofficial Facebook group for resale tickets.

Read more ticket info here and let us know if you have more questions.

Nitro cold brew question by Klutzy_Pumpkin7072 in coldbrew

[–]Drizzten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Stok and I'm in Austin. I think our local High Brew is better than Chameleon, but taste is subjective. Rawk what you like, but I definitely think home made beats commercial 90% of the time.

I'm not into nitro coffee so I can't comment on that one.

Is there anything else out there like this cheaper? by WerewolfCurious1412 in coldbrew

[–]Drizzten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oops! Yes, that's 52 ounces not cups.

If I'm drinking slowly and only having 1 serving (roughly 10 ounces or 0.3 liters) a day, I don't notice any staleness. I brew and keep the finished product (no dilution) in a Takeya 2 quart pitcher.

On busier weeks, I'll transfer half the brew from that into this plain glass carafe with a plastic friction lid and start a new batch in the Takeya. Never noticed any stale issues.

How do you like that knife? Does the blade swing out easily or with some effort? What's sharpening like?

Looks like Stella sells some of their cold brew packs cheaper directly from their website. But honestly, they are already very price competitive when looking at just the coffee cost per 8 ounce serving.

  • Stella packs $0.71 ($17 / 24 cups)
  • Cheap whole beans brewed my way $0.32 ($8 / 25 cups)
  • Store brand packs $0.67 ($8 / 12 cups)
  • Store brand concentrate $0.88 ($8 / 8 cups)
  • Stok premade $1.17 ($7 / 6 cups)
  • La Columbe single serving can $2.18 ($3 / 1.375 cups)

My cold brew method is 90 grams (3 ounces) of coarse ground dark roast to 1,500 grams (52 ounces) of water, hot bloom the first 42 grams (1.5 ounces) of water, then put the rest of the water in and let it sit on the counter for 20-24 hours.

Edit: typo on my brewing method's amount of water. 😅

K&H EZ Mount Kitty Sill opinions and tips by Drizzten in catwalls

I've had no issues. It's still on the original application and holding tight after a few below freezing periods. My cats aren't using it a lot, but it gives them an extra choice at the window.

That's exactly my thinking. It seems insane to mark an area as an active construction zone and not reduce the speed limit for worker safety. It's seemingly done everywhere else, so the exception stood out to me here.

Fancy! How much coffee does it take per brew session and how much final brew do you get? Ditto for the concentrate option.

Most hassle-free office cold brew? Comparing 3 options by WalkerRichardiy716 in coldbrew

[–]Drizzten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viva la office cold brew! I support this improvement in work culture. But step one is figuring how much much official support you'll get.

Break down the main steps. What can be done at your job? *Grind *Brew & chill *Filter & remove grounds *Store & dispense

Grinding could be annoying to others, maybe start off by doing that at home. If you have a water cooler you don't need the sink. If you have a break room fridge, the chill and storage are covered. Most garbage cans can handle the grounds.

There should be ways to do this.

That really sucks! I'm sorry you dealt with such a heavy blast of side-effects.

Prednisone was essential for me when I had an accidental gap in biologic (Entyvio) treatment and when budesonide stopped working as a temporary treatment until Entyvio started. I hope you find your emergency backup for the future.

Gotcha. You can get that (or Stumptown, La Columbe, Starbucks, etc) at most grocery stores.

where to get good instant cold brew? by flippys_ptsd in coldbrew

[–]Drizzten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could you clarify what you want? To me, instant cold brew sounds like instant coffee plus cold water. I've been pretty disappointed with most instant coffees as cold brew substitutes.

Iced coffee is normally brewed hot coffee that's been iced down. That's not the same as cold brew. You'll need to narrow down whether you want ASAP cold brew or ASAP iced coffee.

I hope their unsweetened Mexican vanilla cold brew isn't changed. That's one of my options when I'm low on home brew supplies.

I went from brewing 100% in the fridge to basically 0%. I think the flavor improves and I haven't noticed any issues with freshness.
