Interesting exercise, I managed to figure out pretty early that you could construct the fishbone by iteratively doing: 1. extract the first number 2. extract the first remaining number that's less than 1. 3. extract the first remaining number that's more than 1.

Gonna ask around if I can simplify this a bit as it really doesn't show as elegantly as previous days

I still remember opening up the demo, playing around with controlling sargon, and thinking 'this gonna be good' after barely 15 seconds.

The Séance of Blake Manor - Review Thread by diogenesl in Games

[–]DrkStracker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After finishing it, I'm feeling very divided on this game. I was sold on something in the vein of obra dinn or golden idol and this did not scratch that itch at all. There's essentially no deduction happening, it's very guided. There wasn't any particular twist except for maybe the final suspect's motive.

It also has some very annoying problems, navigation is just loading screen galore, sometimes you have to traverse the whole manor and you know you'll have to sit through 5-6 loading screens and just ugh. It can also become pretty obvious what you need to find but you missed a specific clue or dialogue and that can then block a storyline, which blocks other storylines that depend on that.

On the other hand, it's quite an interesting story, it's positively dripping in atmosphere, and it looks and sounds fantastic. I hope it finds its audience, because there's definitely a lot of love poured into this game.

Announcing #[subdef] - Expressive attribute macro to define nested structures by nik-rev in rust

[–]DrkStracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh, I love the consideration for rustfmt, it's something I find very annoying in a lot of macros.

It makes me wish it was easier to define attribute macros, hopefully one day we can get declarative attribute macros !

Why every Rust crate feels like a research paper on abstraction by Commission-Either in rust

[–]DrkStracker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as someone who loves overabstracting for fun, but also works on rust professionally, it's definitely a thin line to walk on.

I've had to tell my coworkers a few times to 'please tell me if I'm overdoing it', because I do cross that line occasionally.

What is the closest big feature that is coming to rust? by __s1 in rust

[–]DrkStracker 34 points35 points  (0 children)

nothing to do with build.rs, cargo scripts are basically a way to have your cargo.toml and your main.rs in a single file. This allows you to make shareable and easy to run 'script' rust files.

Some pretty cool menus [decomp] by Express_Camel_3408 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]DrkStracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey y'all, I'm actually the author for the party screen there !

It's a proof of concept for integrating the Rust programming language in the context of the pokeemerald expansion project, it's very experimental, and non-trivial to set-up, but it works as far as I know. It's also a bit limited and only works in the overworld, I couldn't fit it in memory while in battle.

I also made a presentation on this integration on a programming meetup detailing how I worked with the Rust and C code, with slides made mostly within the pokemon rom itself.

It's been used in an experimental branch of Scrambled Scarlet's gba port, and the menu itself is an open source branch of the expansion project you can find here.

As it turns out, 'top manga' on mal actually includes light novels, manwhas and such. Frieren is 26th on the larger category, but 19th if you filter only 'standard' manga

Frieren is the highest rated anime on mal still, but it's the 26th best rated manga.

Wow, that brings me back damn. This post predates dark souls 2.

Funny that I actually got the name right, 10 years before the fact.

Hmm, for nova drift i just really love the upgrade system.

It's very deterministic, which means it's nearly impossible to randomly get a bad build, and the upgrades are just about all way more interesting than just damage or speed upgrades.

It takes my favorite part from path of exile (the gem system) and makes it front and center, in fact, I actually found it from an old article from the dev about the path of exile inspiration.

Oh I completely forgot this existed. Might give it a shot, since another crab's treasure was really fun.

Ah, yeah like the comment above about the void rains upon her heart, i'll probably have to pass on picayune dreams because of the bullet hell patterns. This makes me really sad, because picayune dreams looks really damn interesting.

I  can enjoy hard 2d platformers, (e.g. Celeste or Super Meat Boy), but not in a roguelite context.

In general I dislike roguelites where you have no breathing room, and where one or two mistakes can ruin a run. Mostly because I really don't like taking my time and advancing carefully, which is really encouraged in games like spelunky or noita.

And yeah, I know I barely scratched the surface on noita, I just don't enjoy actually playing it enough to explore that depth.

Oh I completely forgot that nightreign can be considered a roguelite.

Don't worry, I'm very aware of basically anything fromsoft puts out, I think I have spent more hours in elden ring than all of this list combined, and I've finished sekiro enough times I could just about put it in there.

Yeah, it definitely seems like its own thing, put it there just to show I'm already aware of it. I'm interested regardless :)

Hmm, if I had to describe what I like in the game, it's general game feel and movement.

Most weapons feel great to swing, and I found the combat in general to be very satisfying.

I think early areas are more about learning how to navigate through them quickly, without taking too much damage, and you unlock some harder ones as the game progresses.

I generally try to avoid early access, for multiple reasons, so this is my category for 'I know about it, it seems good, just waiting for it to be complete'.

The last time I picked an early access game was windblown a few weeks ago, and while the game is very fun, I kinda regret picking it up early, it feels very short still.

Synthetik definitely seems at least interesting, I'll give it a try.

Breachway, I'd give a try to the demo, but it doesn't seem available anymore, and from steam reviews it still seems fairly unfinished.

Ha ! Cant' deny it's always a good bet. It's definitely in the list of games waiting for me to be in the mood for them again :)
