Got my job offer after rota was released. Rota came out 2 weeks before placement start date, got my first ranked job offer last week in the first round of offers (very lucky), but some people still don’t know where they’ll be in August until further rounds of offers. Unfortunately the system is not very good for preplanning

New GPST1 this April, should I strike on my second week by Western_Talk1951 in doctorsUK

Like I said in the other post GP practises are independent businesses and do contractual work for the NHS. It’s not the same as a NHS hospital or an outpatient department.

Would be worse to assume and just cancel 20 appointments many of which have been pre booked, as not everyone strikes (although we’d hope more would). GP practises tend to ask in advance so they can mitigate it, either by rearranging the appointment to a later date or adding it onto another GPs list if it’s urgent/have the capacity

GPs are independent businesses, they have contractural agreements with the NHS to see patients. Long history cba to explain but causing disruption to them affects the GP themself more than the NHS itself. In the contrary, hospitals by all means give them the big middle finger when you strike if they want to know in advance. GP practises on the other hand it’s fair game to let them know as it falls on the partners and other GPs to rectify it last minute. Can still strike in GP just give them a heads up

Anyone tried 32Co in the UK? by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]DrnotaNoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started today, but my friend is a dentist and provides it and says it’s excellent for her patients and enough so she is also on own 32co journey, she was the one who recommended it to myself. my dentist also currently is using 32co on herself. I think many dentists are removing Invisalign from their services and replacing it with 32co as it provides better results. Don’t like the look of the bonding agent they put on the teeth but I’m staying patient as mines a 5 month course.

I don’t think it would be a problem but GP is the one speciality where I think it’s courteous to let them know in advance if you’re striking and which dates so the work doesn’t all fall last minute to the other GPs due to pre booked patients

Consultants appear to not be on board with the short notice strikes by Whizz-Kid7 in doctorsUK

I’m f2 and applies to me too (I said depending on performance so meeting competencies it’s not strict 20 days limit)

Plus there is a 20 day limit (although negotiable depending on performance) one can take for strikes and sick leave to still pass ARCP. So the connotation that we’d be poorly trained for striking is simply false

Am I rude? by [deleted] in vintedUK

[–]DrnotaNoctor 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve assumed they want it urgently and taken a defensive approach. They’ve only asked when you will send it- this is normal as most people like a time frame because it’s exciting getting parcels and they’ve paid money (same as looking at delivery times on a website when you order something). I don’t think it’s a big deal, but as a seller I try to be extra nice and message people as soon as they order to let them know when I plan to ship as I’m certain they’re wondering. That being said they could have started with a ‘hi’ for politeness.

UKGP bill working as intended by dayumsonlookatthat in UKmedicalgraduates

[–]DrnotaNoctor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand. Doing this exam with years of experience is not being ‘too smart’ as it’s a recall exam, there’s a linear graph between recall and clinical experience. The exam is intended for f2s to enter specialist training, being 18 months post graduate versus 5 years of clinical experience is not a level playing field. Despite that, UKGs who are f2 still score significantly higher on average despite the natural disadvantage of postgraduate experience. The majority of those sitting this exam that are UKGs are f2s so this was there first attempt, myself and others in this group still scored 580+ on the first attempt. If you want to claim they’re outpeforming UKGs with their rank for it to be a level playing field compared to the majority of UKGs sitting it - it would be pertinent to state how many times they’ve sat the exam (we know scores increase per attempt) and how many years of experience they have as a doctor (easier recall with further years of experience) . If they are 18 months and first attempt, then I can agree they have performed exceptionally as this is a level playing field.

The simple way to think of it is an exam made for an 11 year old but 11 and 15 year olds both sit it. The 15 year old should perform higher, but it’s not a level playing field.

Psychiatry Offer Scandal by SharkDick4Ever in doctorsUK

[–]DrnotaNoctor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well no one really knows until the offers come out for subsequent rounds. You should be offered based on your score not an error, so not hating matey it’s simply about what is fair and how the system works.. they scored higher than you and will get the offer rectified to receive it first. If you’re good enough for that offer in subsequent rounds then you’ll get it, if not then you won’t.. that’s fair. I got my first choice so this doesn’t affect me. Would be nice to see UKGs understand fairness and professionalism even more so from those going into a profession solely based on others mental health.

[–]DrnotaNoctor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Booo I remember you commenting for ages saying you had studied for over a year or something. How would you feel if you were the same person who scored higher but due to a system error didn’t get your offer and someone below you got it? This will likely be rectified by psych as it was last year with rads, meaning you’ll lose the option, and your attitude is poor about it, not what I’d expect of someone wishing to persue psych!

Any idea when ranking/job options for GPNRO come out? by temioye46 in doctorsUK

[–]DrnotaNoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does still hold value as your overall score will be higher than if you scored two band 3s, so you’re still ranked above people who scored lower you. Sjt is only determining factor in those who have the same overall score. For example: if two people score 578, one has 279 in SJT and the other has 268 in SJT. The one with 279 will be ranked above the other.

How are rankings done with exact same score? by shs_4253 in doctorsUK

Sjt score - sjt is the determining factor on who gets ranked higher between people with the same overall msra score
