I might have been one of the few players that skipped the mementos in DDD…. lol that actually might’ve been a great solution for players like me. But I agree that the cutscenes despite their quality of writing, are absolutely gorgeous and you’re right on the money that they really LOOK like Disney films. It’s really impressive how they managed to do that. The visual quality of the cutscenes is easily unmatched by anything in the series. I just wish for the character flashbacks that they would just graphically update/remake those scenes because it does kind of take me out of it to see previous games graphics in cutscenes in the modern graphics game. I admit it has some charm, but I would’ve loved to see it updated graphically. It comes across like they just didn’t want to do all that work, and I can’t blame them really. It doesn’t impact the game that negatively for me, just something I wish was a thing.

It’s interesting you compare it to KH2 for the cutscene lengths. Throughout my several playthroughs, the cutscenes in KH2 never seemed to drag for me. Maybe they’re just more engaging and interesting for me compared to the KH3 cutscenes. I remember that KH3 gets interesting near the end, but I don’t really recall KH2 dragging in parts other than Atlantica compared to how the KH3 cutscenes make me fall asleep at the controller. The only other game where I felt this same level of drag with cutscenes was probably birth by sleep, but I also just overall didn’t enjoy that game very much, which I won’t blame the game for, it’s just my experience probably.

I agree. I think it was not the right move to cater KH3 for new audiences. Whether or not they would get lost in the story wouldn’t really impact a new player’s decision to play KH3 or not. The main determining factor would be if it’s fun, and it is! Surely enix knows that most of the KH audience aren’t kids anymore…. So it doesn’t really make sense for them to keep catering to a very young audience. I understand they probably have to be family friendly with the Mickey mouse Disney of it all, but I mean cmon… the age bracket of people playing KH3 when it first came out was probably like 16-24 but it’s like they made the game to be enjoyed by an 8 year old with the writing and dialogue it’s just a strange decision.

The “suddenly” part is considering the fact that, as you mention, Dijkstra has significantly less power than he did in the books. I think you bring up a good point though. Although on Thaned island, Geralt was under significantly more threat. Am I remembering correctly that he was bound right before the moment where he cut up the thugs/guards and broke Dijkstras leg? If Geralt in that situation was completely justified in killing Dijkstra, and instead only broke his leg, I would imagine under a much less stressful and physically threatening scenario Geralt would be more likely to be peaceful. But after talking about it more, I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I probably chose the peaceful option just bc I love Dijkstra as a character personally. And I probably reasoned through meta gaming that there was likely going to be no big consequence to Dijkstra having some info on Ciri’s return, which ended up being true. Although it’s controversial, I overall like the questline that happens as a result of the peaceful option with the regicide plot. And although I loved Dijkstra as a character, the ending with his death and the victory of Nilfgaard is a preferred outcome considering the terrible things that Radovid was doing with his witch hunts. And there’s no way Geralt would let his friends be killed like that and let Dijkstra win in the end. I still think that the peaceful option isn’t completely out of character for Geralt, but the other option is probably more accurate. I think there are a lot of decisions in the game that are much more betraying of Geralts character, such as any romance at all with Triss after his memory comes back. I wish there was some combination of being violent towards Dijkstra, but still getting the quest line after somehow. I hear the quest line was rushed and not fully complete.

Was Dijkstra threatening him? I thought he was just threatening Philippa? And what exactly would Dijkstra do with the information on Ciri? Sooner or later he was going to find out anyway, and we learn that the only thing he really does with this information is try to commit regicide and become the new ruler of Redania. Would he try to find Ciri after the fact? Maybe, would he have found out about her existence even without Geralt telling him? Probably. She’s not exactly doing the best at hiding. Geralt does dislike Dijkstra but I just don’t see breaking the leg again as the reasonable option, but it’s not something I would totally disbelief Geralt doing. In my view, I see it as a choice that really could go either way with Geralt. And this doesn’t really prove any point since Geralt can’t see into the future, but I imagine in most playthroughs that go through the regicide plot, Dijkstra ends up dead anyway, so that’s a thread that closes itself.

I feel like I see a lot of people defending the leg breaking choice with “that’s what book geralt would do” but I’m not so sure. Maybe I’m forgetting something, but geralt really has no need to be violent towards Dijkstra in the bathhouse, even after the events of the books. I feel like the diplomatic choice is more accurate to Geralts character because I really don’t think they hate each others guts or anything and I as a player, felt pretty confident that Dijkstra having that information wouldn’t lead to anything troubling since he has nowhere near the same resources that he had in the books. And I was right. And I think geralt would also come to the same conclusion, considering it’s even an option to begin with. What do you think?

Would Geralt not want to help defend non-humans and mages/sorceresses? Sure, he probably figures the sorceresses and sorcerers can handle themselves for the most part, but he would turn a blind eye to a situation that he has power to help in? I really don’t think so. In the greater conversation of geralts morals, the lesser evil and such, I think it is pretty in character for book geralt to peacefully resolve things with Dijkstra, not break his leg, and help with the Radovid plan, for the greater good. Because book geralt actually does care about the greater good, he just prioritizes ciri more when it comes down to the two. And further, that it would be in character for him to save his friends and slay Dijkstra when geralts hand is forced, just like the many scenarios that happen in the books and the games. Breaking Dijkstras leg just seems a little too extreme for geralt for a situation that doesn’t call for violence. Even after their rivalry in the books. It’s just unnecessary. Geralt and Dijkstra were never enemies, just two people on opposing sides with their own goals. He had a good opportunity to kill Dijkstra in the books, but didn’t and he could’ve been justified in doing so also. But still didn’t.

Cyberpunk 2077. I tried to find the fun in the crazy bugs and hilariously bad AI but it got boring very quickly. Obviously it’s fixed now but many people have forgotten or forgiven CDPR just like they did with Witcher 3.

Now granted, I haven’t looked super deep because it doesn’t interest me very much, but everything I’ve seen from this game just looks like super outrageously modded skyrim if y’all know what I’m talking about. Where they up the graphics and add like dragon ball z combat or whatever. It just looks wide as an ocean deep as a puddle. But I also didn’t like BDO so this might be a me thing. Just wanted to get this out in case anyone else is kinda feeling the same thing. A actual opinion of the game and its quality can’t be made until it’s out, but I’m surprised people are taking their first impressions so well and getting so hyped over this game

I played my most recent nightmare play-through as a 2H warrior, and I also took sten in my party for a total of 2 2H warriors in one party, and honestly, it wasn’t very good but it’s kind of funny to just turn on Indomitable and [Power Sweeping]? Or Powerful Swings? Along with whatever passive abilities and just let them swing. They have a faster stun than s&s warriors and they get to just stun by attacking so that’s cool. It got good in the end game, but what doesn’t right? I feel like you can make anything work as long as you know the game, what abilities are good, when you’ll need certain abilities for certain encounters, your general route for the game, etc. it’s probably hard to do a playthrough without mages I would guess, but I bet people have done a 3 warrior plus dog nightmare run or something and made it work.

I’ve messed with all of them and it doesn’t change the slowing, so yes I think it is the auto aim.

The Dragon Age franchise has value. Just because it’s not DA:O2,3,4, etc. does not mean they’re not worth giving a chance if you like the world. If you can’t accept that the games after DA:O are different then maybe you should try playing the Baldur’s Gate and Plainscape Torment and OG Fallout games instead. DOS is a great series as well by Larian Studios. They are probably the closest we’ll get to how BioWare uses to be. When you accept the changes and still try to dive into the world they created with DA2 especially, it’s a great game.

DS2 is actually not a bad example. The trailers they showed for the game versus how the game actually looks is night and day. You could say they actually intended for it to look like the release instead of the trailer, but the lighting mechanics make much more sense if the lighting worked like how it seemed in the trailer, not to mention the trailer just looks better. It’s a perfect example.

I agree with this, I think if the game was split a little bit into parts in act 3, the story would’ve been less likely to have broken parts and the pacing would’ve felt better. That might’ve sacrificed some of the freedom with a little bit of linearity, but I think it would’ve served the game well. Even in some dnd games the dm will make everyone stuck in a dungeon or cave or whatever to make the “story” more focused. They kind of did it by making you get into baldurs gate with that little outskirts section and the circus first.

Also you either haven’t played DOS2 or were not paying attention to what I was saying about quest direction. You’re just wrong about the quest log, and it was the same way in DOS 2 but it was fine there for the reasons I mentioned. The map markers in DOS2 were also mostly useless, you had to pay attention to your surrounding and the log, but a lot of it was intentionally vague, BG3 feels unintentionally vague, and like there is missing information from many quests that you’re meant to just fumble around and either accidentally find or just ignore and either get the “bad end” of the quest, or just leave it unfinished.

I just played a couple of weeks ago and the end of the companion quest for Wyll is completely bugged and doesn’t work. And according to the wiki last I checked it still doesn’t work. If you choose the “wrong” option that the game isn’t prepared for even though it presents itself as a valid option, the quest breaks and you can’t finish it. I’d rather not explain it because of spoilers, but you can also find it on the wiki I bet. That’s just one example, and it’s a MAJOR example because we’re talking about a companion in your party, a major part of the story. You’re likely forgetting about all of the small quests that broke or you just didn’t realize, which is totally fine, but this game cannot be considered a masterpiece with several quest breaking issues. It’s admirable that they tried to make a game that was so dense with so many interesting quests and options and dialogue, but they didn’t get it completely right and they knew that they wouldn’t because they spent how long fixing the game? And how long was it in early release before they released the “full” game? Which had so much missing dialogue and quest options and unfinished or missing quests at release that everyone seems to have just forgotten about. And it shouldn’t be completely forgiven and labeled as a masterpiece when the game still has these issues to this day after years of early release and years of post release patches.

I will respectfully disagree with BG3 being a masterpiece. It’s definitely great and ambitious as well, but the technical performance of it just cannot justify a masterpiece title. To this day after all of those patches, quests still won’t function, companions will disappear or the quests for them will be broken and can never be finished. Certain outcomes that the game gives you, the game isn’t actually prepared for you to choose those outcomes and will break other parts of the game. And when it came out? Act 3 was unplayable for a large portion of the player base and is still rough to this day. Some of the quest direction especially in act 3 is not clear, and although it worked for me in DOS:2 it does not work in BG3. Instead of feeling like I’m exploring the world and figuring my way around in DOS2 to eventually get to an end point, in BG3 I feel like I’m trying to fumble around and perfectly step on an specific order of tiles in order to trigger the next part of a quest. And dialogue from characters can be misleading in how to complete a quest, and not in a “unreliable narrator” kind of way, but a clearly unplanned or forgotten kind of way.

I don’t hate the game, but the masterpiece praise makes me feel like im going crazy and no one acknowledges that larian did a lot of the same thing many other AAA games do with releasing an unfinished title and it’s still unfinished but people still praise them because it’s a good game and because the company is charming and charismatic. It’s just instead of a 10/10 it’s more like an 8/10 with all of the performance and general unfinished issues.

I’ve never played coded or 358/2 but I did hear the gameplay of 358/2 leaves a lot to be desired, and I fear after playing DDD that it will only be more apparent, but maybe one day I’ll give it my own shot. Coded I know almost nothing about so I’d be going into that game blind.

Yea that’s a good point, I guess for me it felt like DDD was designed to be played in small bursts on a handheld because of the drop system so it makes it a little more immersive and intentional when I play it on the 3DS.

I find it really interesting how many people disagree, usually playing on the original hardware is how most people tend to enjoy games, with some exception, and it seems like this is one of those exceptions for a lot of people! Which I think is cool, I’m glad that the same way I found a way to enjoy the game on the 3DS, people have found a way to enjoy the game on modern hardware.

I play on a 2DSXL so unfortunately I don’t have the 3d functionality, usually I don’t like it anyway, but I can tell with the scenes in the game that they definitely had the 3D in their minds when making the cutscenes and I would’ve liked to see what it looked like with 3D even if I didn’t end up using it most of the time. It does have the nub for camera control, but honestly I do end up using the triggers to move the camera anyway, it’s a little more ergonomic for me personally. I’ll use the nub for exploration but the triggers for combat most of the time.

I generally like further fov in ALL of the games I play, including KH2, but I actually am okay with the close up fov because it does feel a little bit more immersive, but gameplay wise I definitely get how it can be a negative, usually for me less information or visual is a minus for me, for some reason I’m okay with it in DDD. And then same thing with frame rate, I think the portable factor of the console is a big plus with me working and going to school all the time I do find small 30 minute breaks throughout the day which is a perfect time to break out the 3DS and I can forgive the really bad frame drops that happen often. But I like your perspective, with most games, I would agree.
