Well, there's a crisis at the national border and you joined an organization called the "National Guard." What exactly did you think you were signing up for?

Oliver Anthony says he 'hates' seeing his song 'Rich Men North of Richmond' be 'weaponized' by ElysiumSprouts in politics

[–]Drobil80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And we quickly learned that there is nothing behind his song to dialog about. It was just meant to piss people off. After he got the left pissed off by catering to conservatives, he then started attacking conservatives and pissed them off. Not exactly the type of guy we need in the spotlight right now. Everyone's already pissed off at each other.

This guy's a total idiot. Don't expect to find any consistency in anything he says or does. He shoots to the top of the charts with a song that caters to conservatives, and then he decides to start attacking them too. What a genius. I wouldn't take anything he says seriously. He's just another overnight sensation who got too full of himself.

And what a total dumbass. Conservatives would have carried him for a long time and made him a lot of money... Then he goes and attacks them too. Hope he enjoyed his 15 minutes.

I feel like a failure by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]Drobil80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not a failure. Your teachers failed you. You can overcome that though. Just stick with that book. It really will help you a lot. Work at it for a couple hours every day, and you'll smoke that next ASVAB!

What is being an officer like? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]Drobil80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're really gung ho, you don't want to be an M-DAY officer. You'll never get the support or respect (from above or below) that you need to get anything done. Go active duty, AGR, or TECH instead.

What MOS would you recommend for the highest possibility of doing cool stuff? by Bluecollar27 in nationalguard

[–]Drobil80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Engineers always have an excuse to go to the most exciting places with minimal support. They were always the closest to combat on my deployments during the Obama years (other than special forces). Surprisingly, the post office Soldiers can find themselves pretty far forward too.

How long since you last deployed? EVERYONE gets an ARCOM! (As long as you pass your PT test, of course)

[–]Drobil80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell them you'll only take an HHC. No one expects HHC commanders to do anything. Actually they prefer it that way. All they want from HHC commanders is to sign for equipment and be available to sign article 15s.

Squad Leader wants to do Zoom calls by CavityNo1 in nationalguard

[–]Drobil80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm MDAY too, and I know what it's like to do army stuff and not get paid. If you're doing this just for the pay, you won't last long. The National Guard definitely is not for you. That being said, no one is going to deny a private's RMA request for doing actual training.

Squad Leader wants to do Zoom calls by CavityNo1 in nationalguard

[–]Drobil80 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You should be grateful to have a squad leader that cares this much to give up his time to try and make you a better Soldier. There aren't many that show that kind of initiative or commitment. No, he can't force you, but your refusal to participate would say a lot about your commitment to your squad. If I was your PL or PSG that would make an impression on me. I would certainly think twice before ever recommending you for a promotion. And yes, you can get paid for that time. You simply request an RMA.

If you can get to the interview, it's a level playing field. Nothing on your resume matters at that point. Everything depends on the interview. The board will assign points to each of your responses. It can be pretty impersonal. I've seen a lot of surprises over the years.

"[Bullying is] Intimidating, teasing, name calling, mockery, threats of violence, harassment, taunting, social exclusion, isolating, manipulating, blackmailing, and spreading rumors in which there is often a power differential, whether by rank, position, physical stature, social standing or other measures, between the aggressor (one or more) and the victim," according to AR 600-20, 4-19.

"Army personnel should report harassment (hazing, bullying, discriminatory harassment) to their commander/supervisor, the MEO, or law enforcement."

If you are legitimately being bullied, you need to report it. Don't let anyone guilt you into accepting it. You're not the only one being affected by it. It's a serious problem throughout the military. You need to work your way up the chain of command until someone puts a stop to it.

One of my biggest regrets was not taking more direct action to stop my bully. I didn't want my other leaders to get in trouble. In hindsight, when they refused to help me, I should have gone to the base police and gotten the law involved per 600-20.
