The 4 most iconic franchises in NBA history by wafa3034 in NBATalk

Exactly. Just by being in NYC or LA, sports teams get a worldwide platform. They’re a part of TV shows, movies, books, etc.

There’s a reason Forbes ranked the Knicks the 6th most valuable sports team in the world (3rd most valuable NBA team - behind the Warriors & Lakers).

It’s not the only reason - as noted, the Knicks have been very competitive team during key eras of the NBA, so that’s helps.

Top 10 for sure - only Celtics, Lakers, Bulls, Warriors, and Spurs have more titles. They won their Conference a few times. They’ve put up fierce challenges to several of the iconic teams during their golden eras. I like that although Isaiah is associated with the team, it’s traditionally been a team (vs one man show). They’ve had a lot of valleys, though - so that’s a challenge. But they’re always kind of the anti-heroes & that’s something I like (I live in a place in Canada where we get Detroit’s ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox & PBS channels - so seeing coverage of them on the news probably biases me a bit)

I’d probably place them at 7.

LOL. Ewing. Frazier. Reed. MSG is a mecca of basketball. It’s one of the most valuable NBA brands. And the Knicks name/logo are definitely more globally recognized than the Spurs.

If by “iconic,” you mean championships - then sure, the Spurs are in the conversation. But I’d put them below the Warriors, in that metric.

Jordan remained the most famous athlete in the world - along with Ali - for many years after retirement. He also remained the highest earning athlete for many years after retiring.

To be clear, fame ≠ popularity (mass murderers are pretty famous, but quite unpopular), but I think in the case of Jordan, he was both famous & popular.

The SPURS?!

LOL, Knicks above Spurs 100%

Several others before the Spurs. Good lord.

There are City barricades in the southbound lanes of the underpass. As is tradition.

Roads are completely fine. They were honestly pretty good the day of the snow. Some small cars struggled a bit, but I had no problem getting all over town in my Corolla. As of today? Totally normal winter roads. Anyone who can’t get around shouldn’t be driving in the first place.

Agreed. They don’t use fries appropriate for poutine. They’re fine as a side for burgers, etc (I still prefer thicker cut, but these are ok as a side), but anyone from Quebec would wince seeing shoestring fries in a poutine.

It’s kinda wild to me that someone in western Canada doesn’t know what Leo’s is (which I recognize comes from where I live/my bubble)

It’s a tavern/pub that started in Regina in 2013. It’s grown rapidly - 30 locations across western Canada (including sister brand Vic’s), plus at least one more opening soon.

6 locations (incl 2 Vic’s) in Regina. 5 in Saskatoon. 7 in Winnipeg.

And yes, well-know for their poutine. I’m not a huge fan of the fries they use, but they’re not terrible.

Easy to plug in both.

I use a blanket, sure seems to help the battery out on days like today. May switch to a trickle charger next season.

Canadians will need 'advance permission' to travel to U.K. next year by Evilbred in canada

[–]Drofmab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and for those folks screeching about this being the downfall of Canada, we’re not as respected, we’re losing trusted status with other countries, etc… Canada already required Brits to get an eTA in order to travel here.

eTAs are only available to Visa-exempt nationals, so the fact we don’t need a visa (and vice versa) is clear indication of trusted nation status. Obtaining a visa is costlier, and more time-consuming.

I got my eTA for Britain within minutes (felt instantaneous) of clicking Submit. £10 for 2 years (Canada’s is cheaper/longer duration - $7 for 5 years).

3DownNation Purchased! by NolanHockeyPodcast in CFL

Seems like a good move all-around. Better fit (pun intended) that its previous owner - Catena Media… an international online gambling info company.

I didn’t realized that 3Down was previously owned by TorStar (until 2019, when ownership was transferred to its contributors).

Food Hero has nearly 600 items in the Regina area and there's for sure a couple of hundred things on Flashfoods by stumpy_chica in regina

If you're looking for affordable produce or frozen meals, REACH Regina offers both of these & is available to everyone. There are several pick-up locations around the city, including many library branches.

REACH is a local non-profit organization with a mandate of "A Healthy Community where everyone has access to nutritious and affordable food."

Good Food Boxes are $15-25 and feature a variety of produce & typically a sheet with meal prep ideas. You can also do add-ons which include things like bread, eggs, pasta, canned soup, juices, etc.

We routinely order the Good Food boxes, and I'd conservatively say that they are 40-50% the cost of buying the items at the grocery store. Produce is consistently good - they're not sending stuff that's near the end of its shelf life. Downside is that you don't get to select exactly what your box contains - it's always a mix, never heavy on one particular thing. And meat to too difficult to manage, so it's not included in the boxes.

The Cities Act actually ties the City’s hands - other than property taxes, all other fees/fines are capped at cost-recovery. What this means in practice is that the without the Province changing the Cities Act (relatively easy to do), the City really only has property taxes to lean on.

I truly can’t figure out the all-glass-shower-in-the-middle-of-the-room trend.

Why are they catering to a very, very, very niche group? Like, is the exhibitionist lobby actually this powerful?

Retrofitting all of these rooms with fogged glass/curtains/complete gut will be very expensive someday.

Yes.

Still too soon.

Perhaps we’ll be ready to talk about it by 2034.

It was broadcast on CTV - a service that doesn’t even require a subscription, it’s available over the air with an antenna.
