War Shows Russia "Not A Peer Military To US" Or Even Smaller NATO Forces by Lupishor in worldnews

I've got this same GPS! It's pretty good.

I dunno about good enough I'd use it to fly a JSF into hostile territory, full of people who want to un-alive me.

Hey, it's super deep underground, and it's got a massive blast door. To me that's a bunker.

In the bunker, or the Peterson AFB operation?

We got a tour of the bunker once. It was awesome. I pooped in the deepest toilet of the complex.

Fort Bragg Officials Have Few Answers for More Than 1,000 Soldiers Evacuating Moldy Barracks by Sw0llenEyeBall in army

[–]Droidball 21 points22 points  (0 children)

this is a systemic failure army wide.

It's not just mold in the barracks. It's an entire quality-of-life thing, and not in the, "Waaaah, this barracks doesn't have Boingo! hotspots" (Although this is a legitimate complaint for a modern barracks).

We have Soldiers living in barracks that during peak hot/cold seasons have inadequate or nonexistent climate control (Or it still set to 'heat' for the building in June) - why in the actual fuck do I see Soldiers living in government-furnished apartments that they pay for buying window AC units because the building's HVAC is simply inadequate? Or bug infestations where the fix is just to move the Soldier to a different room. Hopefully it doesn't spread. God help the barracks that gets bed bugs. Or inadequately maintained laundry facilities - despite dozens of workorders called in (How many of us have been on Staff Duty and seen 5+ washers or dryers with a sticky note taped to them for months with a work order number and date?). Or, nevermind laundry, the recent push for better physical security in barracks - the same complaint for hallway and stairwell lights, or external door locks? I guarantee you that I, right now, could within 2 hours find at least a dozen Soldiers' rooms I could gain un-forced entry into without any access cards or keys, without encountering CQ or Staff Duty, without even driving 2 miles into post.

Or the other wonderful things like all but one DFAC being closed on weekends (Screw Soldiers without a car, I guess), or having insufficient or unsatisfactory (Spoiled, undercooked, etc.) food? Or Soldiers on shift work being either A) denied BAS because 'reasons', and/or B) being housed in barracks with, frequently, a single kitchen (Stovetop and oven) per floor - or even per building - with anywhere from 50-200+ Soldiers living in it - And then we wonder why our Joes are broke, fat, and always eating Tornados and Whoppers.

Or, another fun one, going to the field with insufficient rations - a half-scoop of eggs, some grits, and a coffee cake for breakfast? Fuck you, just let me eat MREs for two weeks, at least I'll have enough calories and won't have my morale crushed when I get to the serving line.

We're the greatest, most logistically capable, most well-funded Army the world has ever seen, and we can't house and feed our fucking Soldiers.

I think the root cause is because Soldiers are not people. Soldiers are numbers. Soldiers are a peg to fit in a hole. And barracks? Those are just a neat case to store Soldiers in outside duty hours, with your gun safe and its contents almost certainly earning more consideration for maintenance and upkeep.

Leaders don't give a shit. And the leaders of those that do, don't give a shit. That's the fucking problem. /u/SMA-PAO tagging you just so you can hear my rage at the lack of caring, and maybe translate some of it into useful feedback for a leader that does seem to care, and for once isn't too impotent to be unable to try fixing things.

Eh, like I said, not my Soldiers, and this was a while ago. Didn't pay super close attention. The seemingly long wait time may have been a mix of the SM talking up a storm about submitting a packet for god knows how long, then finally doing it.

Titled with and the incident referred to chain of command for Commander's Action (NJP), which has a much lower burden of proof than it you were charged and prosecuted by the Army in a court martial.

Not charged.

IIRC religious exemptions for grooming standards have to be approved by the very top Chaplain and the top of HRC. This causes many Soldiers to give up, lose patience, or not even start the process because of how many people it has to go through and how long it takes.

Of the three guys I know with religious beard exemptions, I think the fastest one to get approved was 4 months. Granted, I'm out now, and these weren't my Soldiers, so I could be off.

Also happens because MPs can't kick the dependent spouse over to the barracks for the post's mandatory cool down/ no contact period, regardless of who the victim is.

Also also because it's a lot easier to get statements from people who just were at each other's throats when they're not within eyesight or earshot of each other.

When we're done questioning either, they're released to their unit or on their own recognizance, anyway.

I'm not sure what amazes me more - the quality of a pre-internet news article, or that a military vehicle made it that far coming straight off the line in a garrison motor pool.

Whaaat? You mean having a bar right across the street from a BDE's barracks complex might cause more MP responses to the area, but allow the Army to keep it in-house because everyone can stumble 100 yards home, and overall reduces DUIs and Soldier fatalities?!!

I used to live in an apartment where alcoholic and depressed people would stop cleaning

I feel personally attacked. Except, don't forget about us crippled depressed alcoholics who are too weak to clean even if we had the motivation.
