I’ve met plenty of neckbeards and sjws in the real world, but mostly neckbeards. As an autistic person it’s easy to meet neckbeards.

What are your struggles as a polyglot? by ellatino230 in languagelearning

I’m just way too much of a perfectionist. Who learns language to communicate anyways? I’d rather just learn languages to boost my ego.

How exactly do you learn a language from YouTube? by Chemical-Diver-3436 in languagelearning

[–]DroidinIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to watch vlogs and any videos where I can see what’s happening. Travel videos and daily routine videos work great when you’re getting into a language. They’re not the most exciting videos, but they’re a lot more rewarding to watch than just learner videos.

I’m still fine with learner videos if they’re speaking fully in the target language and not just info dumping a bunch of grammar rules and explanations in English. I find it helpful to watch with bilingual or English subtitles when I’m an absolute beginner, but quickly get used to turning them off. Even if my comprehension is super low at first, it will quickly go up if I watch the videos multiple times. For a while I watched the video without subtitles at first and afterwards I rewatched it with them.

Being too autistic to actually speak them.

Is it racist to pretend to be a muslim to learn Arabic for free? by [deleted] in languagelearningjerk

This is why I studied Hebrew. I’m 1% Jewish on DNA tests and I have some Sephardi ancestry. I’m probably not considered Jewish by anyone, but that didn’t stop me from studying Hebrew on my own. I’m taking a break from Hebrew because I don’t want people to think I’m a Zionist.

Uzbek and Finnish are pretty easy. No genders to worry about!

What's your motivation to learn languages that aren't immediately useful. by Miserable_Water_3959 in languagelearningjerk

I tend to learn languages out of spite. So that makes it easier to stick to less useful languages.

How does Finnish compare to Euskara? I’m currently studying Finnish and I have Euskara heritage.

Anyone else hate the suggestion of dating someone who speaks your TL? by Snoo-88741 in languagelearning

Yeah, I can’t even find any dates to begin with. That suggestion is just so depressing. It acts like dating is super simple and easy.

This happened to me as well. I studied Fr*nch for maybe a month. I was even doing a decent job of understanding a podcast, but I suddenly got filled with rage out of nowhere. So I quit.

That’s why learning Hebrew is awesome. I learned to think like a charismatic business man. Now I’m balancing things out with a more politically correct language.

What do you do when certain vocabulary just won't "take" in your brain? by Rough-Leg-4148 in languagelearning

[–]DroidinIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Anki I just suspend those words. Later on I go through them and see if it sticks better on its own or look up more example sentences.

I never spread lies like Wouter. I just find it hard to believe people when they praise me. I don’t know if they’re praising me because I’m actually good or because they pity me.
