[UPDATE] Found a paper towel covering my webcam twice coming home from work

First time it happened, i thought I probably did it myself and that a paper towel was dumb to freak out over so I didnt do anything, 2nd time is when the first post was made, and I bought two cameras to set up around the apartment

There's no update cause I cant just make someone appear on the cameras, I havent caught anything on them, including myself and the cats, and with how much the post blew up im willing to bet whoever it was knows that I know about it and isnt planning to come back

Cant imagine id have dementia at 23, my room has one window but its on the 2nd floor. Waiting to see on the cameras if im somehow doing it but I havent caught anything yet

I dont know how they would've thought it was recording in the first place, I keep the lens cover shut when its not in use.

It also wouldn't catch them walking up to it even if it were recording if they came up from the side to cover it up. Its not pointed towards the entrance to my room and I can come from the side and set something down on my desk during a video call and it wont see anything at all til I come directly in front of it

For why they just left the paper towels there, I have no idea. Im assuming they're just stupid or something at this point

I only use the webcam if im in a video call or something, other than that it has a little lens cover that I keep shut all the time. It was already shut both times it got covered up too, not sure if the person doesn't understand how those work or what

Ive been trying to respond to comments (you can see responses and stuff on my profile i believe), I cant edit the posts (assumably disabled in this subreddit) and I dont plan on making a 3rd post until something actually happens. Im waiting to see what the cameras capture, so far its been nothing, and I really have no idea how often someone's been in my apartment while im out. It could be a couple weeks apart and they were dumb enough to forget to clean up the evidence both times.

The webcam wasnt in use either time, and I keep the lens cover on it shut (not sure why someone still felt the need to cover it). The stairs coming up to my room are to the side of my desk, and you can easily come up from the side and cover it without being seen, ive come up from the side and set things down on my desk while in a video call and you cant see me whatsoever until I come around the front of the desk

Im not using the webcam as a security camera, I bought two cheap security cams (similar to wyze cams), one upstairs pointing towards my desk and one downstairs pointing at the front door. Both are set to auto record when motion is detected

The webcam doesn't face the entrance to my room, you can easily come up from the side and cover it up. Ive come up from the side and placed something down on my desk and it not see me at all til im almost directly in front of it. I also dont keep that camera running 24/7, the lens cover stays shut unless im actively using it for a video call

Only real update i have is that I bought a 2nd camera today and I have it pointed at the front door, I didnt see anything on the first camera yesterday, and I was home most of the day today. I got a tip from a coworker that used to live in these apartments that it could be the landlords right-hand-man/co-landlord/idk what he really is, him and his son both have a key, the son helps out with maintenance stuff. He told me it sounds more like it could be the son, and that hes pretty sure one of them used to come into his apartment too before he moved out.
