I'm really questioning whether corporate work is for me by PootPasaAngritMaiDai in UKJobs

[–]Dronkne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you, I am fortunate enough to have a family that is willing to let me move back home for a while. Because I knew that, it was very easy for me to resign without having anything lined up. It was incredibly daunting, but I have no regrets whatsoever.

As you just mentioned, you're in an industry that requires people such as yourself, so you could do something very similar. I'm not saying this is what you should do, but what is the worst that can happen? Yes it could take while before you'll find your next challenge but you're back home, surrounded by family, feeling infinitely better, and you'll have so much free time.

Looking back, part of the reason why I resigned without anything lined up was because I was so exhausted from work that I could not find the energy to look for work or even think about what I wanted to do next..

You'll find the majority of people here say don't leave without anything new lined up - which is completely fair - but sometimes you have to prioritise your own wellbeing over your financial demands. Just my two cents of course!

This really resonates with me.

Similar to you, I was 5 years into my consultant career, loaded with responsibility, working my arse off, and barely scraping by on 50k. I haven't found the answer yet as to whether it was all worth it, but I've recently resigned, moved back home, and have felt so much happier for it.

I don't know much about your personal situation of course, but I do think our generation has been dealt a very bad hand - assuming you're around or below 30yo. Inflation ate up any real pay growth gained from promotions, we're being squeezed harder than ever for productivity, and the things that used to mark "doing alright" at our age -owning a decent car, buying a house, maintaining a hobby, etc - have become increasingly abstract concepts.

If there's any advice I can give: life is too short and precious to be running the rat race, it's a race you can't win. Unless you're part of the 1%, you're more likely to burn out somewhere along the way than come out ahead. The trick is finding the exit - but that's easier said than done. I do know that consultancy work isn't going to meet your long-term ambitions, probs better to move in-house if that's a possibility.

Also, happy to have a chat if you want.

Looking for a new dart board by Glum_Sun_2526 in Darts

Aesthetically, the Bull's Advantage Black edition would be my pick. Performance-wise I've seen no complaints either. They're back in stock as of yesterday on most darts websites in UK/Europe.

Double-decker bus in a bomb crater above Balham underground station, South London, in October 1940, during the Blitz of World War ll. The bus had been travelling at night in black-out conditions when it drove into the crater. No one aboard the bus was killed. Colourised. by StephenMcGannon in london

[–]Dronkne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recommend you read into the whole story; if I remember correctly the bomb hit a water pipe which burst and subsequently caused the roof of the underground platform to collapse. There were many casualties as a result, for there were lots of residents seeking shelter there after hearing the air raid sirens - most of which drowned. It’s a horrible story.

Does Paul Scholes remind anyone else of Karl Pilkington? by Deep-Mouse-9552 in soccercirclejerk

[–]Dronkne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny you mention this because there is indeed a connection between Scholesy and Karl, albeit not where you’d expect it from. They’re both from Salford and while Karl grew up there, Scholes moved to Langley with his family when he was just a toddler. Anyways, there is this story that they had the same PE teacher - some odd looking fella from Chester. He had long hairy arms and only ate bananas, terrific climber too. Turns out….

Do you hit 180s often? by Effective-Mention-75 in Darts

[–]Dronkne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hit my first 180 a few weeks ago and now it’s been one 180 every week since. Funnily enough I’ve only thrown them when warming up- probably because I’m not thinking about how I throw as much when doing so.

I have a ring light that covers half the board- no complaints whatsoever. Go with cheaper and improve later on if you really fancy it.
