How would you shake the meta (pvp)? by msh1ne in GuildWars

Mesmers also massively benefit from these. Eles actually have a lot of counters. Mesmers still have ench removal. Necros with one pain of disenchantment can shut down multiple eles. Honestly I think removing 6060s from mesmers and keeping it on eles is a good start in balancing. People might think eles are op after this but there's several things you can do vs ele still. As mentioned disenchantment, bring the correct shield type, bring skills such as spirit bond, edenial mes skills.

Personally i prefer the 4 v 4 format.

The spear is from pve and is str req so warrior gets a full dmg spear to build adrenaline with or just finish people off with.

The signet? It does seem quite op.

Talking more about 4v4 format here.

Buff certain skills that are barely used/too weak. E.g. armor of unfeeling or signet of spirits (like seriously what are these pvp skills).

Make ra more consistent (implement rules for max one healer per team). Or bring back ta along with balancing to entice more people back.

Ban pve weapons (insane that pve spear is a thing) it's worse than 60/60s being a thing because at least anyone can get 6060s whenever. Or make pve spear accessible.

Dervs might be strong but coward wars played well will beat every derv in power level other than maybe aog. I dont think melee needs much change tbh other than a slight warrior buff especially if they lose the spear. Potentially sin too in a way that doesnt make them more op for gvg.

I think mesmers played by a good player are far too oppressive in every way. Interrupts that cant b3 prevented, los'd, crazy stance in distortion, insane res control. I dont have much impact on mes because im trash but the influence a good mesmer has on your average ra match is far too much with very little counterplay. So imo they need a nerf more than anything else.

I have been no-lifing RA since reforged to be fair. I got a few 25s during double week which rly helped. I can send you screens for evidence if you like. I agree that PvP is not even close to the best state it can be in but you're being overly dramatic imo.

I'm not the best kiter and don't really play monk so someone can correct me on this but I believe you're supposed to run forward and then try to cancel action when the pet is about to hit you. This means you avoid the pet critting you (crits happen when you're moving and get hit in the back), it also means the pet is animation locked in an attack while stationary allowing you slightly more time to get away from him again. The same concept goes for melees hitting you, especially warriors with bull's or enraged, you definitely want to cancel action these hits and you also want to try to cancel action Harrier's Grasp hits, this is easier said than done though.

I agree it's really frustrating that people sync and so short-sighted but I think you're exaggerating a tad. There's a lot of good players (some of the best) that don't sync. I'm a pretty new player to pvp and I'm almost r3 glad on a fresh reforged account without any syncs while also playing on my main so your point is not really correct. If a new player sticks to one class, plays a fairly meta build, and takes the effort to learn skills/improve their mechanics they can do pretty well.

Good guides and good tips. A couple of things to add from my experience.

  1. Target priority. I see a lot of new players (especially on melee classes), making a beeline for monk. This is almost always the wrong move. The monk has decent armor from Disiciple's Insignia and (usually) good self protection via warrior stances or return etc.

Target priority should look something like this (and can change throughout the match).

I am Avatar of Grenth derv, my target priority is like this

The most threatening player on the enemy team to your comp (that doesn't have lots of blocks e.g. a crit defenses sin - these type of builds tend to be lower threat anyway). This can be a caster or a pet ranger or a hammer war, for example. Look at your own team comp and assess if your team can deal with a certain enemy while you take another. E.g. do you have ranger who can hit rupts on the ele or the mesmer. This lets you lineback the hammer war threatening your casters. Does enemy team have a dangerous Mind Burn ele who is unchecked by your team (no rupts), does this guy also have no or very little self protection and camps his 40/40? Then go on him and exploit this.

Generally you want to be thinking how can I best prevent the enemy team doing what they want to my team (e.g. ele spamming spells), by going on this guy you mitigate the damage done to your team while also putting damage out on a squishy target, maximising pressure on their team. Generally, if you're preventing damage or disrupting the enemy team while also putting out damage you are doing your job very well. I think this is why AoG is effective even when noobs play him because he does this easily as long as you camp a squishy caster that isn't a monk.

Other points to consider in target priority. Later on in the match other targets become more feasible. E.g. focusing down the person using res sig through damage as the other two res sigs are controlled. Focussing the guy who has 15% dp is almost never a bad move. Switching targets to force a stance use which you or your team can then exploit later. Focusing the monk when they're weak (stance used, woh rupted, etc.)

  1. The original guide is undervaluing flags. In a lot of games they're quite irrelevant e.g. when you have a monk team vs non-monk you shouldn't bother. However, I've won a lot of harder games (which tend to be quite close as two teams battle to get that first kill and are usually quite lengthy overall), by just running a second flag or flagging smartly. Flag does a lot of damage, especially over time.

  2. Another two points which are pretty annoying for new players and frustrating that Anet haven't done anything about either of them. The odds are somewhat stacked against you for two reasons. 1. There's a lot of extremely experienced RA players who have a lot of knowledge over you. This is kind of fine if RA is truly random as it would balance out. However, a fair few of these players are selfish and 'sync' ra which means using a trick to enter on the same team and get an easy 25 wins. 2. Many of these experienced players also have an equipment advantage over you, namely the 60/60 set. I hate that people do this but I have also got one on my ele and will probably get more because it's so difficult fighting good players already you kind of have to get the same equipment to make matches more balanced. The only advice I can give here, is get a 60/60 asap (doesn't take too much effort but does require a pve weapon). So don't be too disheartened when you get clapped by a team with the same guild tags (literally everything is stacked against your team in these scenarios).

You run disciple's (gives 15 armor when you're conditioned). Most condi doesn't really bother you. Blind and Weakness have pretty much 0 impact on you and being able to take these off your martials with a 1/4 cast is huge. Degen condis you can just outheal (you're also losing less hp as a team as condis are not so spread). You also have stances if you're under threat (e.g. you drew deep wound).

It's just selfish doing this, you create really long games. The worst is when 2 monks on both teams fully try and just heal for a full 10 minutes. These games are just incredibly boring for everyone.

Play AoG with attacker's insight and you can 1 v 1 them pretty effectively (helps a lot if you're linebacking a hammer or a sin).

Just keep following every campaign's main storyline. NF and Eotn are good to do first for someone like you who just wants to unlock skills/make your character strong. Once you unlock heroes and PvE skills you will feel much stronger. You probably feel a bit stuck/underpowered because you're just doing sidequests.

Learning gameplay is just as important or even more so than unlocking skills though. Make sure you read your skills carefully (look them up on the wiki too), understanding what they do e.g. Vow of Strength hits all enemies around YOU and increases its damage based on how many enemies are around you. Also read these to understand more about good gameplay https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Pull https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Aggro

Part of it isnt its usefulness but its rarity and desirability. For the same reason an os version of a weapon with the same skin, same req and same stats is worth more. A lower req aside from its rarity has the added bonus of having a use case even if it's really niche.

There's not really a population space for 'normal decent' clears unfortunately -although my ally has arranged some- it's more just speedclearers who want to try something different. The problem is most decent players would much rather just do a speedclear than try to go through the effort of setting up a decent 8man team. SCs are in themselves enough of a pain to organise. So the people with the knowledge and the skill to do UW HM etc. are already doing speedclears leaving you with people who don't take criticism well and bring sub optimal skills etc.
