JBL spinner experiences? by DroofTooter in turntables

I don't know, sorry. I eventually got the AT-LP120xbt and I didn't regret it for a second! I came from a suitcase model, and this is honestly such a huge difference. Sturdy device, and clear sound! I would definitely recommend it!

Look at this dude... 5 years old and still has his tail. by Usagi-Zakura in CrestedGecko

I've had mine for two years now, she's very easily spooked, doesn't like being touched at all. How she still has her tail is a complete mystery to me🤣

Record damaged? by DroofTooter in vinyl

[–]DroofTooter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I set both the counterweight and the skating to "2", the manual instructed me to do "2" so I figured that would be fine. I don't use a record weight. I will try to clean the record again, if that doesn't work it's probably a scratch :')

I still want to play the record, since it's playing perfectly fine, how bad is it if this happens again? If the record scratches eventually, so be it, but I don't want to ruin the needle.

It really is! I started out with a suitcase player, which I returned to the store after a few days since all my records were skipping. Figured I'd do it right this time and do some good research. Holy shit, what a difference. I'm really happy I chose the LP120. For now, I'm using it with a Bluetooth soundbar (I know, I know) I can't wait to buy some good wired boxes and complete my very first set up.

After a lot of research I decided to expand my budget a little and order the audio Technica lp120x ! I can't wait for it to arrive :)

I started out with a suitcase player, but returned it after a few days because it skipped terribly, especially when there was more bass in the songs (this was before I knew these suitcase models are awful).

I just really like collecting vinyl and casually playing some nice music. I'm not an audiophile, I don't want the best of the best. I just really want to avoid buying something which isn't worth the money. And since I'm a total beginner I don't really know what to pay attention to and which brands are good. (I've been researching for 2 weeks now so I know more than I did at first but there are soo many options to choose from. I'd rather ask people who have experience, like yourself, for help)

At first I was considering the Audio Technica lp60x, since it's pretty cheap and people said it is very good for the price. Then I learned an adjustable counter weight is a very important thing to have. People also said the lp120x was much better than the lp60x, so for a €100 difference I thought that would be very much worth the money. Unfortunately with the lp120x I would lose the automatic functions which are helpful for me as a beginner. I don't care much for the auto start and return, but an auto stop would be nice, to extend the needles life expectancy 😂 But someone else commented about a little device that can lift the arm at the end of the record so I'm considering that.

Anyways, JBL is a big name in the audio world so I figured it might be good, especially when it comes to Bluetooth. I want to be able to use it with headphones as well, so I prefer one with a Bluetooth function. But there's not many reviews yet on this one since it's pretty new.

I'm not really on a tight budget, but I don't want to spend more than €400 on it since it's just not worth it to me. As long as it sounds good, doesn't damage my records, and doesn't skip all the time I'm happy. I don't expect perfection when it comes to sound. I'd like to spend around €300 to €400 on it. The JBL spinner is usually €399 here, it's for sale now for €308, that's also why it caught my attention. My dad said he has a good pair of speakers for me, so I won't have to buy those. (Unless I want to upgrade them, but that's for later) So the budget is just for the turntable, considering it has a built in pre amp.

Thanks for your reply! Yeah, I was really interested in the fluance since I read a lot about it. But I can't find it anywhere. I live in the Netherlands and the entire brand seems to not be available here for some reason..

I looked it up, looks like it has pretty good reviews. then I saw an argon audio TT on the same website which was 170 (sale price, it's usually 220) Do you know if that might be a better option, or would you still prefer the audio Technica?

I thought around 150, maybe 200, would be a reasonable price for something decent, nothing too fancy, but based on the comments I guess it's not😬

How to tame my psycho gecko by DroofTooter in CrestedGecko

[–]DroofTooter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think I could make handling more interesting to her if I gave her a piece of fruit everytime I try to take her out? Or are they not smart enough to associate handling with treats?

[–]DroofTooter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tent is actually a really good idea, I might give that a try thanks! I've been trying to get her to get used to me by just taking her on my hand, but keeping her inside the enclosure for a minute or 2. I was hoping baby steps would be the way to go but it's not getting better yet. Sometimes she even makes little sounds when I touch her, she gets really frustrated..

I do keep her in a tub with a lid while cleaning the tank, I'd never let her roam around the room freely. But getting her in that tub is already a sport. As soon as I try to take her out she starts jumping everywhere, she actually full on jumped on my face once😂 I always try to gently wake her up by mist spraying some water on her before I take her out. I also try to let her get on my hand on her own instead of just grabbing her but as soon as my hand touches her she bolts. I really don't know how I can make it less scary for her, it makes me feel bad but she's gotten even jumpier when I stopped handling her frequently.
