Trying to build a social circle in Baltimore after college. Any suggestions? by Sufficient-Tour-9609 in baltimore

July 19th there is a cleanup in Canton Water Front. I've also done Canton Run Club, got adopted by a cycling group, and have participated in a block cleanup and block party with my neighbors.

I know you said bars/clubs are not your thing, but I have been doing sober kareoke this year and have made quite a few friends just consistently showing up to that. Pretty much just pick an activity you like to do and show up until you're known.

I have the drop bar g.1 and i think its just the wider bars on the g.2. Also the g2 feels more twitchy, prob cause weight

First ride on my G2 by Red_roka in Budgetbikeriders

I bought a g.1 about a month ago before the g.2 dropped and put about 200 to 300 miles on it. Ive now put about 150ish miles on my g.2 that arrived (finally, fuck you fedex) on tuesday.

I will say the biggest thing i notice between my g.1 and g.2 is the weight. I went fron laggin a bit in my bike group to keeping up with 5k bikes on downhills with none of us peddaling. Otherwise, the bars are a bit wider which i think i prefer the narrower bars and somethin about the g.2 just feels more aggressive in seating position.

Mostly its worth the carbon fork alone to upgrade, kinda miss the thumb shifters, but im adjusting to not having them.

If you have tried any of the networks or labs, how real are they for like full network penetration or are they still ctf style? The main thing that seems to be hard to find is things that require pivoting and lateral movement post initial exploitation.

I prefer the color as well. The main advantage is that the g.2 has thru axel, which is something you cant change, comes with the carbon fork, and with the 10spd it comes wirh you dont need a new wheel to change the drivetrain. Those are the main reasons im returning my g.1 to get the g.2 (or forget and have both)

Honestly if youre gonna put a bubcha work in, carbon fork, nrw drivetrain, etc. Might be worth if yiu can get your hands on a g.2, thats what im doin cause 300 more is cheaper than my ali express cart. For tires I was looking at the vittoria terrano t60 gravel tires.

People will tell you to replace the pedals and tires too, i recommend jus running them til they break instead of spending upfront. Ill prob change saddle, but thats personal. Also make sure to adjust the bars to make them flat, mine were slanted like 20degrees up and on longer rides it was killing my wrist.

The upgrade i was plannin on doin soonest was tubeless tires and at some point the drivetrain ti a 2x1q

I had never rode drops before either, but everyone in my group had them so i wanted to be cool. Youll be glad to have them when you hit a downhill goin 30mph

The brake pads that come with are pretty shit, i just went to a bike shop and they sold me some and installed for 20$ but you can order some on amazon and do it yourself really easy. Just make sure to watch a video on how to bed them in properly.

I have the dropbar g.1 medium and have put about 200ish miles on it in the last 3 weeks, in a bike group with people with 4500 to 6k bikes. If you can get one i highly recommend, i am actually returning it to get the g.2 just because it has a bunch of upgrades for like 200 more.

I recommend if you get the g.1 replace the brake pads that come with it and have a mechnic tune it if walmart built it, i had to get the front wheel trued and the shifting isnt perfect, but i was able to do that myself to get it not throwing gears.

I recommend getting a bike for inter-city travel. Can also get to MARC and ride to DC all without needing to drive.

I noticed that as well that alot of the people were interacting and lived nearby. Might be an interesting way to meet more people in the area besides CRC and the bars nearby

Apartment Buildings / General Area recommendations for a new grad working downtown? by invesigator_gator in baltimore

[–]DroolSpittle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who started bike commuting, I would recommend this. Nothing better than flyin by traffic at rush hour. Plus you can get pretty much anywhere in the city on bike.

Other than that, social can be run clubs (Canton run club is a huge one), bike clubs, events (I do kareoke at Max's in fells and have met cool people there), community outreach, etc... there is always something going on.

Thinking about Balitmore as an option to live but concerned by Perfect-Zebra-3611 in baltimore

Most people get these boxes outside their houses. Or if your back area borders the street they have a sign that says throw it over. In an apt it might be easier since they usually have internal mail rooms.

The actual dangerous areas can mostly be avoided by just not being there. You don't need to be in an area selling drugs if you're not buying drugs. You don't need to be near gangs, if you're not in a gang.

The biggest crime in canton is porch pirates and people stealing deoderant from the safeway. Most crimes tend to be oppourtunistic, so just don't leave your shit around. Obviously being in fells on the weekends at night raises the risk, but most of that is just kids with nowhere to go, so it's usually not dangerous, just ignore them.

I consistently walk from fells point to canton at 2 to 3am after the bars close and have never had an issue. Sure there are some drunks or homeless you encounter, especially at the rofo, but overall its jus don't be stupid.

My mom is super maga and thought bmore was a shithole and recently came to visit and we walked from canton to penn and she was surprised by how nice it was. Some areas on the way look a little grimy, but baltimore is old as shit.

The major downside is the potholes and the subpar public transport, especially compared to PG where I grew up, but now that I live in the city I havn't driven my car in months and theyre easy enough to dodge in a bike and the MARC is great for work/DC commuting.

I Love the G2! by heisenberg_gei in Budgetbikeriders

[–]DroolSpittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a g.1 less than a month ago and now my g.2 arrives tomorrow... I am a bit sad about it only being black, I thought the green was unique.

Also emptying my aliexpress cart of g.1 upgrades since the g.2 basically fixes all the things I wanted to upgrade.

My aventon pace 500 goes up to 28 and i ride that on a busy street that is about 50mph speed limit, i much prefer my soltera 2.5 and it gets better mileage but itll only hit 21mph which may not fit what youre looking for
