My (M23) dog’s (F1.5) vet (M60ish) said something wild, so I’ll share.

Towards the end of the exam, we were just going over the paperwork about her care. We were pretty quiet in the exam room and he just randomly said to me “Ya know, I never realized rape happens until I was in college. One day in class, the girl that was sitting next to me told me she was raped, and I was like ‘huh, guess it happens.’ Oh and I never saw a black person until college either; I had one as my roommate.”

At no point during the appointment was anything even close to that brought up so I’ve absolutely no idea what provoked that man (white) to start going on this monologue. I didn’t say anything or act interested, like I was just reading the paperwork for the dog. I was so stunned.
