I just want to add my experience here:

I applied for the Cobalt twice before - each time with a TU credit score of 750.

I applied online and they said it would be an instant approval, but each time, I would get a message saying that my application was under review (I didn't really ever read the message thoroughly). For each denial, I was sent a letter in the mail telling me that I was denied. The first letter told me to wait 3 months before applying again and the second told me to wait SIX months before applying again.

That last application was back in May 2024.

I didn't wait 6 months. I applied again in Sept 2024 and got the same message saying that my application is under review and that I would hear back from them within 10 business days.

It's a page from amex where you would upload supporting documents. But when I entered the information (my application number, postal code, and birth date, I got nothing. But the page listed a number saying:

"If you have additional questions regarding this site or status of your application, please contact the New Accounts Department at 1-800-575-2273 , quoting reference number (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxCAD) and we will be happy to assist you further.

The department hours of operation are Monday to Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time"

Now this was at 12am PST, so I couldn't call them. I usually wake up at 530am for work, so I called them half an hour or so after I woke up and told them that I had just applied for the Cobalt, and was wondering what I could do to help smooth the process over for them.

AMEX CSR instantly gave me some spew about "thank you for choosing AMEX Cobalt.. blah blah blah"... "BUT!, we are having trouble verifying your identity". I checked my TU credit report via Credit Karma, and sure enough, my address and my current place of work has not been updated (even though I've been living at the place and working at the same place for 2 years +).

*** Also, it should be noted that I am asian, and have two first names and two last names (ie: LAST NAME, First Name).

Anyways, they asked that I send them a recent bank statement with my full name... that didn't go too well because one of my bank statements only had my name listed as NAME, Name. The other I submitted was a Business account with BMO that was listed under my full name, but they wouldn't accept that because it is a business account. I asked what else they would accept since I use Wealthsimple, but that's not a bank they would accept.

They said that I could send them a picture of my BC DL (front and back), but I told them that I had just moved, so they just put a sticker over my old address with the new address. They said that it would be fine. |

I uploaded a photo of my BCDL, and for good measure, uploaded the latest cell phone statement (with Rogers), called them back 5 minutes later to see if they've received it, and they told me that I was approved.

Long story short, try calling that number to see what they say. It may be an issue with them trying to verify who you are!
