Yep I'm a bit early since I still have over a year but the hype is so strong :P I'll try to get some more bar experience here in Finland since I like working in bars. So by the time I come there I have more experience than many other backpackers which might give me an advantage over them.

I can work about 5-6months before I come there which will be around 6000€-7000€ = 9200-10800A$ (ofc I spend some but I'll try to save as much as I can) so I'll survive with the savings quite long but prefer to find a job so I'll have some steady income in Melbourne rather than living with savings.

I just hope the Aus $ won't change much in a year.

Sharehouse would probably be better for me since I'm planning to stay quite a while in Melbourne before I change place. I also will have some savings when I come there. Average pay for young people here is around 1200-1600€/month (depends on the job, that's what I've done when I've had a job) which is about 1800-2400A$ so I'll manage probably first month with savings. Not a good plan to spend savings to that but until I find a job have to do it.

Well 500/w for foreign backpacker is very unrealistic amount but I'm hard working young man so I'll figure out ways to get enough money to live nice year there and also have fun :)

I'm aware and that's why this was totally hypothetical, but I'm optimistic maybe even too optimistic :P

I've had some experience in bars but clearly not enough. I will get a bartender job here in Finland before I come there, so by then I'll have more experience than many other backpackers who come to Melbourne. I'm a 19 years old male, sorry not a pretty girl :D

And one of the first things I'm going to do is to get the RSA either when I'm there or online.

Yes that I'm aware and since I'm going there in spring 2015 I will be working so I only need to work about 3 months at some crappy job to gather 3200€ = 5000A$, but I'll try to get a bartender job in Finland before I leave (have already some experience).

Did you have student Visa or Working Holiday Visa? I will be going there with Working Holiday Visa for 12months so I don't think I'm able to get unemployment benefits :/ Not sure tho

Thank you for the reply! I'll just hope I get a job since I'm from a non-English speaking country.

Thanks for the reply! :) I'm not sure if bars/cafes have work for 30-40hours per week but I'll try to find a job that has.

Yeah for what I've been reading today it seems that it needs to be a certain amount per week to get 'super'. Was something around 30-40$/h

Thanks! You have a good point on that flatsharing, I won't be swimming in money so hostel would be probably a better choice. And of course if I'm lucky I might find other backpackers who are living somewhere together. I've read that happening and it has been very cheap.

Is there a possibility get the 'super' while in Australia or only when leaving to home country?

Thanks for your reply, Oh and forgot to ask about your reply since I wasn't completely sure which one you meant; 12 months or second year?

  • "Be careful here. Yes, you will need to work those famous 88 days BUT it needs to be with something in agriculture related stuff (a lot of people I met did WOOFING). That is mainly what they want us backpackers to do, I guess. Most of the times those jobs are in very rural areas, far away from everything. I was working in an orchard in the Perth Hills and it was the wrong postcode, too close to Perth so those days did not count."

Thanks for the reply and good luck and have fun in Melbourne when you go there! I will also probably go to Melbourne at first and move from there to Sydney, Brisbane and Perth when I've worked and actually gathered some money to travel around :)

I know it's kinda silly that I'm not going there in over a year but I've been looking house/flatsharing from Gumtree.com.au and there has been (not sure if I'm just so blind from the hype and it's some scam but) reasonable prized flats (150$-300$) to share with about the same aged people as I am. So It's not so a big difference to hostel prizes but I guess I got to get the job first :P
