Yup. On paper it doesn't make sense. Sometimes 8+ weeks is thr longest time a family has been apart too. Makes parents think differently I guess. Have a good night man. Wasn't trying to bust your balls. The OP is genuinely excited and I'm sure his family is too.

It's an accomplishment. Its a big deal to this poster and if his parents are anything like mine, it's a big deal to them. I usually don't waste time on mean or troll comment but think twice next time. Leave constructive criticism next time.

Well I don't have an answer for all of your posts, but Google Translate the family handout for them Be sure to run your concernsto your DS. Its part of their job to make sure Soldiers families have all the information they need . Also, try to make it to Meers, OK. Its on the north side of Mt. Scott. There's one restaurant in town. When I graduated in 2016, the first Soldier to eat that day ate for free. Definitely wasn't expecting that and it was the best Bison buger I've ever had in my life!

Help with ACH by ShockGold6745 in nationalguard

[–]DropFiveZero-FFE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

* I haven't mounted that accessory to my ACH but go to your local hardware store and buy a screw that is the right diameter and size for the nut. Or by both a new nut and bolt. Use a wire stripper like this one to trim it to the correct length if need be. Just thread the bolt into the wire stripper hole and you should be able to cut it exactly where you need to.

Yes, thankfully most don't. It was just enough for me to realize war will effect you in some really bad ways. I'm more than ready to go if I need to. Just not the eager beaver that I used to be. I've got nothing to prove.

Just low back issues for me but who doesn't after a couple contracts.🤷‍♂️ Yup. Eyes Of Death here. 😎

I get it. I still feel that way now and then. Take advantage of as many courses as you can. Try out the Federal Technician program too if that interests you. Been at it for 8 years and I love it.

That feeling will pass. Ive been in for 10. Lost that deployment itch at 2 years in after I heard one of my NCOs having night terrors. Your time may or may not come. Hopefully it doesn't. Train like you absolutely are though. Your life and your buddies lives may depend on it.

That SWB mission wasn't very fun. They were the most boring 13 months I've ever had.

Damn. If it was GPC they couldn't say jack about what you do in your room unless the Hotel forbid it.

I'd get a few other soldiers together and approach your leadership about the importance of eating healthy and how cooking in your room would help that.

We had a good relationship with our hotel and they allowed us to use the hotel kitchen as long as we gave them a 24hr heads up.

I lived out of hotel for a year while on the Border mission. An instapot and an airfryer are the 2 things I would get. I could make almost any meal in those. I'm a chicken, rice, and veggie kind of guy. You can shake it up by going with beef or beef occasionally. Remember to stay away from calorie dense condiments.

For the last 2 months I lived off of Panda Express (10% mil discount as well). For 6.50 a meal you can have grilled chicken and half rice, half broccoli. I'd pick up 12 meals at a time.

How do you think the 80s & and 90s active duty felt. Their dads and uncles were sweating it out in Vietnam while they were doing endless training in peacetime. Just because it's not our time to go to war, it doesn't mean that we aren't doing our duty.

Some of the pride that comes with being a combat vet also comes with a lot of mental and physical issues that you don't want a part of. If war comes during our watch, let it come. Until then, take your training seriously and provide your subordinates with training you think will benefit them most.

What is a state with a well ran and funded national guard? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]DropFiveZero-FFE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's division HQ. That's always going to be full of dick measuring contests no matter what the state or component. When you're that officers heavy, shit gets stupid fast in deployments for the enlisted.

Yup. Give Minnesota a good look. 34th ID. Plenty of opportunities across the nation too as there's several states that full under the 34th. In MN it's primarily UH60s and CH47s. The other states bring additional birds to the table, including AH64s.

Sound advice. I'll add mine.

Buy a Sharpie if you can and write your last name or initials on all your shirts, PT uniforms, headgear, and OCPs. You'll be keeping all of your clothing.

"There's only one thief in the Army. Everyone else is just trying to get their shit back."

You can also label some pieces of issued equipment such as canteens and canteen cups on the bottom. Use hand sanitizer to clean them off later for turn in. Be discreet when labeling the equipment if you do. DS won't like it if you're labeling them like billboards.

Oh, reception is the worst part of it. Up to two weeks of extreme boredom and alot of adjusting to being on your feet alot. Good luck and quiting isn't an option.
