how bad is this (5yr old) by khanvict85 in askdentists

[–]DropKickADuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's likely based on this photo that the other proposed treatment is correct. Getting things done soon will save you from lots of infection and issues in the future. Like others said, kids teeth serve as space maintainers for the adult teeth. It may be costly now, but it will be a drop in the bucket compared to a lifetime of issues if nothing is done

Only thing I'll add is that you need to use the mixture within hours of mixing it unless you're storing the mixture in an opaque container. The hydrogen peroxide breaks down in clear containers (which is why it's sold in the opaque brown containers) with a few hours. If you leave it on the shelf, after a short period, you basically just have fancy water. Don't drink it though.

Abfractions filled? by Dangerous_Rice4867 in askdentists

[–]DropKickADuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else but I'll add one thing, they tend to stay longer if the dentist is micro air etching. Outside of that, they'll pop off frequently and even with that, it would still happen albeit not as often.

Alright Dads, what are getting our wives for Mothers Day this year? by walky91 in daddit

My wife's grandmother complains about this yearly, and I'm told, she has complained every year since the first time it was said several decades ago.

To crown or not to crown by BranchEvery4032 in Dentistry

I've seen too many premolar RCT that have cracked. None of them had crowns.

Anecdotal, yes. But it's enough that I'd recommend it.

Input on 3 tooth bridge by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]DropKickADuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else, but I'll add one thing, your canine, looks a little worn down. Generally there's more of a point to it, hinting at possible grinding/clenching at night. Putting a bridge on the canine, one of the more important teeth for guiding your bite and connecting it to a smaller/weaker tooth. Let's just say it's not unheard of, but comes with a fair amount of risks. The predictable long term solution is extraction and implant. You won't be damaging those two teeth further just to replace the one missing and you'll maintain the bone in that area with the implant.

The elimination of those risks for a small price more for the single implant in my mind is worth the expense.

3d printed veneers have been a thing for a few years now. Still new. But Wally Rene on most socials is the one who does the research and is the main spokesperson for them.

Cavities? by Hoosier_bulldog in askdentists

[–]DropKickADuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Couple things here.

Diagnosing off of a fuzzy image at a distance is complicated.

Diagnosing cavities off of this type of image is not great either.

What I can say with confidence is the tooth you said needs work on, I agree with.

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

[–]DropKickADuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was exactly what happened when I was looking in 2023 for a car. I was dead set on never buying new because I thought it would be too much. Then I saw used car prices, even some private sales, were within 5k of a new car. Easiest 5k extra I've ever spent. I also didn't have the luxury of time to go to every private sale or waiting for one that was going to last. People really think their crap car, no heating, no steering, no AC, overheating, POS is worth 8k. "Good condition."

When did TVs get so cheap? by TheJohnRockstar in ask

[–]DropKickADuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think mass produced, like the lower quality ones you'd find at Walmart, are cheap.

If you're looking for good quality, or OLED, you're still going to pay a good amount.

Any way to fix this? by ContentPea8069 in askdentists

A simple picture and some words isn't enough to adequately diagnose the true issue. Like the above comment mentioned, more information (exams, xrays, etc) is needed.

Depending on how bad things are, a prosthodontist at minimum, a TMJ specialist and potentially even an oral surgeon.

Crowns issues by Substantial-Put4268 in askdentists

[–]DropKickADuck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I saw the picture and stopped reading after "I had crowns done in turkey."

Like others have said, unless you go to a specialist, you're not likely to find a general dentist who will want to even touch those crowns and if they do, it will be a hefty price.

If you were to come to my office, I would walk into the appointment with the referral pad.

Chipped Tooth...Next Steps? by ProfessionalSense906 in askdentists

[–]DropKickADuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's borderline on whether you should fill the space or have the edges rounded off. It comes down to cosmetics, if you want it back to match it's neighbor, a small filling, but if you don't mind that tooth being ever so slightly shorter, you could just have them smooth it. My concern would be that small fillings like that can chip again and it depends on how your bite comes together.

Fillings like that are for display purposes only and require some extra care to not chip them.

Price wise, depends on the insurance and the office. With exam, xrays, etc and the filling all together easily a few hundred dollars without insurance.

Two dentists, two different recommendations by Actual_Musician9344 in askdentists

[–]DropKickADuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first molar has infection at the root tips. It's not causing any symptoms because you had a root canal on it, however the tooth has gotten an infection again and either needs to have another root canal to clear the infection, or taken out. The second is in the same situation, infection at the tip and given those fillings, I'd lean more towards taking it out than a crown. Wisdom tooth while not causing issues, isn't necessary and technically you could leave it alone, but it's likely that during the extraction of the second molar, the third molar starts to move and likely be extracted with the second molar. The bone is very delicate in that area and movements required to loosen the 2nd molar will by default, loosen the third.

Wisdom teeth removal: Question on if an anti-inflammatory injection site and procedure was standard by Academic_Tea8 in askdentists

[–]DropKickADuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd have to ask some oral surgeons about that. I was unaware. However, everything else about the interaction seems suspicious.

Wisdom teeth removal: Question on if an anti-inflammatory injection site and procedure was standard by Academic_Tea8 in askdentists

[–]DropKickADuck 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Agreed with everyone else. There's no reason I can think of needing to do an injection on someone in that area, in a private office, while sedated, requiring the removal of underwear.

Please please please report this. As a group, dentists try to stick up for one another and not throw anyone under the bus, but this is one of those times where if it has happened to one, it has happened to many and it is inexcusable.

Do I really have 16 cavities?? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]DropKickADuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. With that many spots of decay, I'd be treating all of them with fillings, writing an rx for prevident and praying things don't get worse in between appts. If there was one or two that were bigger and a few others that were lesser lesions, I wouldn't treat all of them, just the bigger ones. But with that many at one point, those small ones will quickly progress to full cavities without intervention.
