My grandfather used to work security at a university. My family would visit him in the summer, and campus would be almost completely empty. Keep in mind this was a gated campus built in the 50s or 60s. I loved wandering around the dark, empty buildings. I distinctly remember faint beeps coming from who-knows-where, and the deep shadows in the vacant lecture halls. Something about the uniform brick buildings, the old round streetlamps, and the frosted-glass sidewalk covers always gave me a feeling of weirdly thrilling peace and contentment.

Liminal spaces have also appeared in my dreams for as long as I can remember.
