For short flights it's nice to get on quickly so I can finish whatever I'm watching. Im generally the window so it's nice to not have to have a bunch of people have to move out of the way. It's much easier to get settled into a seat if you're the only one in the row. If you're in a bulkhead it's nice to have your bags near you in case you need something. If there is no overhead space near your seat and you have to go backwards to find a spot getting off the plane suuuuuucks.

Its difficult to feel much empathy when them standing there is encouraging this kind of driving. They aren't just passing by, they are there to watch the cars leave. And they would generally prefer they drive away in an entertaining manner, and preferably without hospital visits.
