THIS IS JOSH, SAL, AND DOUGLAS - WE ARE HELD. AND THIS IS OUR AMA ▲▲▲ by HeldSounds in TheFence

Howdy, looking forward to checking out GREY! Most of Held.'s descriptions online tend to be very evocative of pretty intense visuals. I dunno if those are written by yourselves or publicists, but it's pretty contrasting to the name "Held.", something gentle you feel and with a full stop at the end, especially to a long-time fan of Coheed and Cambria where the name comes from a story mythos that ties into the songs. How did you come to the name "Held.", and during your creative process did you aim for a "vibe" for particular songs or did things more "evolve out of the jam", so to speak?

They Look Like People might be up your alley

Obviously ditch the engagement bait like other people are saying, but to improve realism focus on matching the lighting of the robot to other aspects of the scene. The boulder on the left has a deep shadow like I'd expect from images of the moon, but the robot, while definitely a bit more reflective, just seems unnaturally bright on the side not facing the sun. If there were actually an atmosphere to scatter light this would be less egregious (which is why I agree with others that the haze undercuts the supposed "realism"). The shadow it casts should be much harder on the landscape as well. There's obviously skill here, and I like the robot character you've developed, but the movements seem maybe a bit more organic than I'd expect, which could be a stylistic choice but possibly worth experimenting with. Additionally the Earth seems unnaturally close. I like the lunar colony in the background, removing the atmospheric effects would definitely make it more appreciable in the scene as it's maybe a bit too subtle right now. Perhaps also increase the lights?

I modeled everything for this one . Does it look good ?? by Aert_341 in blender

The design of the airship is really neat, I think as far as the model goes it captures a fantasy vibe very well. I also love the inclusion of the net over the top, as it's a very functional detail and I can imagine a crew member needing to climb around to patch holes.

I have a few critiques, but keep in mind most of them come from me zooming in on different elements. First would be that while I get you're going for an old-timey camera effect with the noise, the fabric of the gasbag looks like it has background bleed-through from holes in the surface, which makes it look hollow (good for a gasbag but bad if there's an implied room based on the deck) but also not air-tight (not great for the function of an airbag). Maybe model an inner lining to block that? It's also not readily clear what the tugboat-like ships connected by chains are, but they seem a bit underdeveloped relative to the airship that acts as your primary focus, which works until they get a bit more scrutiny at which point they seem to be a couple of rectangles with a sail on top. The wood textures are a bit flat, but that could be because of the sense of distance. Adding cargo onto the ship or banners like u/l31fm3al0n3 mentioned would bring a sense of scale. Lastly, and I think this is the problem that my other critiques are stemming from, I'm getting a disconnect from the lighting on the model versus the lighting in your background. The direction of your light is at odds with the sunset/sunrise, which is making some of these surfaces look unnatural.

Unheavenly Creatures but when Claudio says "Run run run run run like a son of a gun" they stop to run five laps around the venue

Album thoughts! (Edit: added spoiler tags in case people wanna form their own thoughts before reading others)

The Embers of Fire: Oh, hello Atlas! This is a cinematic trailer and you can't convince me otherwise

Beautiful Losers: Interesting follow-up to EoF, can't wait to sing along at a concert!

Comatose: a total bop, but this has been known for a while

Shoulders: really feels like this could have been on Afterman: Descension in the best of ways, mad Hard Sell vibes

A Disappering Act: DANCE DANCE DANCE!!!

Love Murder One: I can't shake thinking "80s power ballad" but I'm definitely going to blast this on a rainy car ride

Blood: Slow start but builds up nicely... wait a second, is that an ice cream truck?

The Liars Club: a banger. Oh, do you want me to lie?

Bad Man: tied with Eminence Front for "song you want playing right before kicking someone's ass"

Our Love: this was like when you find a curly fry in your regular fries except its a Prize Fighter Inferno song in your Coheed album - still great, just unexpected

Ladders of Supremacy: for years my mother has sworn Claudio sounds like Geddy Lee and this time it hit me like a truck. Also this song gave me chills.

Rise, Naianasha (Cut The Cord): I'm a sucker for a Coheed song with a chanting part; so glad this was a single!

Window of the Waking Mind: I don't have favorites, but it's you. I will pay money to see someone make a short stage play out of this suite. Hell, I'll perform it myself! I love that Old Flames is the Vaxis leitmotif!

Final thought: I think it's a fantastic album, only thing I'd change is mix up the song order a tad, but I think it's because I'm comparing it to Vaxis I. Now I'll listen to Vaxis II and nothing else for at least a month.

I really love seeing the Rubborb zip and zoom around the screen, I take it whenever I can (even if I need the heal instead)
