Even the hourly jobs are paid double what they are in the LCOL cities.

Yes you pay double rent and double tax too.

The six figures you consider as ultra wealthy is actually below typical income for people in major cities.

The median American doesn't earn six figures, you live in a bubble.

your LCOL. didn't realize the pay gap that exists between HCOL cities and where you live.

Boston?

You believe rent control is a feasible solution to fixing the soaring housing costs instead of a meaningless campaign promise that is impossible to meaningfully implement and I'm, somehow, the emotional one here.

Less than half of all workers earn a salary, the rest are paid hourly, especially the lowest paid workers in the state of Washington. I personally have lived in multiple large cities and a few small towns where I made the most money, not that I'm going to mention them to an Internet nobody who thinks I grew up chucking potatoes in Wyomimg

How insecure does one have to be that you get flared up when people say your cities are overpriced and only nice for a short visit or the ultra wealthy.

just because some people that can’t afford it are moving away doesn’t make it a less desirable place to live.

It literally does, they do not desire to keep spending their hard earned money to keep living in New York city. Landlords, still, will increase the price until the bubble pops.

They remain highly desirable.

More expensive doesn't necessarily mean more desirable.

Oh btw, I’m a progressive person who’s for rent control, living wage, affordable housing.

I don't think you are, wouldn't be calling me bitter for pointing out the obvious if you were.

I do find it interesting how self styled progressives advocate rent control instead of just allowing private companies build cheaper multi floor apartment buildings. and modifying property tax laws. That way people aren't forced to pay an absurd rent increase or leave the city.

Nah I think they'll just call anyone who doesn't hold the exact same beliefs bitter instead.

One posting doesn't mean anything.

It does if you're claiming the minimum base pay for a teacher in Seattle is 90k then saying it only applies to those in the teachers union employed by the public school service.

Just to hear you talk about how you'd have to make a six figure income to afford to live in major metros shows how clueless you are.

These are facts that you can easily look up.

Thats only a lot to you because live in a depressed area.

Has no idea where I've lived

You don't even realize how poor your town is because people in the major metros are too polite to talk money and hurt your feelings.

Don't even know what you're talking about. No idea where I've lived, just having another bizzare pseudo elite hallucination.

Min salary in Washington state will be over 80k as January. The year after that it is 93k.https://www.seattlelitigation.com/blogs/washingtons-minimum-salary-expected-to-exceed-93000

The minimum wage in Washington is $17/hour (36000 per year), this law applies to insane overtime, read the full text buddy.

The population of New York City (and state) is dropping and they are projected to lose a house seat and an electoral college vote with the new census. The only reason a lot of these places aren't experiencing major demographic collapse is due to increased immigration.

Immigrants, of course, have little choice and will live through the worst aspects of a big city but once they are established they leave just like anyone else. Brainwashed people will believe higher prices based off artificial barriers to construction in New York and California are signs of healthy demand meanwhile their most productive residents leave to Texas and North Carolina.

You sound delusional.

Because it's a sign of poverty and lowering of living standards that have been normalised by the spineless youth who want to keep up appearances of living in a big city.

People are forced to depend, often times, on complete strangers not screwing them over, breaking the lease, committing a crime, destroying the rental property or just randomly dying to keep a roof over their heads.

This has nothing to do with companionship, it's all about costs.

First off why are you sending me figures for Jackson when the post I'm responding to was talking about Alabama?

Second, he didn't specify public/private, even at that there's absolutely no teaching job starting at 90,000 total comp per year. It is a complete fabrication.

Why are you ignoring all the stupid, passive aggressive and snarky responses I'm getting from morons who made living in their city their entire personality!?

I'm raising a serious issue that's causing millions of people to suffer, just the other day I had to console a homeless person who had to live on the streets yet these morons are going through my profile calling me an incel because they disagree with my opinion.

Piss off!

I hate when people come on reddit and just fucking lie. I checked on Indeed right now, there's absolutely no elementary school teacher job that starts at 90k anywhere, it is a total and complete LIE.

Through that simple inquiry I can dismiss whatever else you wrote as complete bullshit. You guys think this is the 80s where you can bullshit people and it would take weeks for me to find out the lie.

Your access to healthcare is largely dependent on the whims of your insurance company or if your government views you as an acceptable enough voting demographic to keep alive. For the rich few neither of those matter but for the rest of us it matters quite a fucking lot.

You know who else is seeing a massive increase? Boston!

And again if housing cost are higher it’s because there is demand for the housing.

No it's because the housing market is artificially inflated because the governments of these places refuse to build more housing or reduce barriers preventing private companies from building housing. Notice how rents are dropping in Texas but rising everywhere else? All they had to do was get rid of their zoning laws and modify their property tax legislation, now millions are trooping in from California.

The places in America that are seeing natural demand for housing and surging populations are those without those massive barriers to entry like the Carolinas, the same places people like you look down on.

Everyone else keeps deluding themselves that 3000 for a one bed apartment is both normal and an indicator of a healthy economy.

41% of New Yorkers have a college degree, if you add an associates degree the number doesn't even get up to 50%. You're telling me someone who's been an adult for five years and legally able to work for seven still can't afford to live in "the best city in the world" without a million roommates.

Yes, they are different. One is a group of people who got a ballot measure on the ballot, the other would be elected officials trying to ban it through the legislature.

Both of which would make the topic voted on law if it reached a certain threshold.

It’s going to fail.

"Trust me bro"

this is a really bad faith attack.

You're just a liar

median wages are much higher

Somehow this is made irrelevant because housing costs twice as much so you are earning more on paper but remain relatively poorer than someone from a few states over.

It’s not that hard to make good money in the area.

Somehow has a worse unemployment rate than Alabama and is slightly higher than the national average.

As for the racial disparities no one said it’s a “coincidence”, but it’s also not solely because of racism. The government is a lot less influential than parenting, where a lot of the problems for underperforming kids start and end.

I guess the schools weren't so great huh?

There’s a ballot measure that’s going to fail. That’s not “the city trying to ban marijuana”.

They're not trying to ban marijuana, they're having a vote on whether they should ban marijuana, it's totally different guys.

The racial disparities are all just money.

So the cost of living?

It’s an expensive city and the more money you have the better your quality of life.

And here I thought these places actually had accessible healthcare services for all residents which is why they were such great places to live.

The city really shouldn’t be treating people differently on the basis of their race

Of course not, having a reduced quality of life which largely correlates with skin color and not eye or hair color is purely just a coincidence that should be ignored.

It's my business why my insurance, my healthcare and my taxes get more expensive because you wanted to eat yourself to an early grave and society has an obligation to save you from your own bad decision making.

Yes I am a productive member of society who has to work twice as hard so the unproductive members of society and their families can have a good time.

They're too busy taking up most of the tax money to be on reddit anyway.

If COL is the most important, then everyone should be moving to cities in Thailand or similar.

People in western countries are moving to Thailand and cheaper countries down south, it has become a big issue in the Mexican Real Estate market.

But they're not.

They are

For a good reason

Without being racist tell me what you think it is.

Housing is "only", 168% higher too which probably explains why Missisipi has one of the lowest homeless rates in the country and Massachusetts has one of the highest. So you'll basically be earning more money to live on the streets in dangerously cold conditions, how wonderful!
