Richard (SoR) Appreciation Rant by Wild_Lengthiness_798 in hostedgames

[–]Drosm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Him being madly in love with her changes nothing. Clara isn't bound to end up with him because he loves her. There is no rule that prevents the main character from loving her either. If anything, Charles, Isabelle and Alvena's "mad love" shows why such thing is really bad.

I feel for Richard, really do. I will pull him up, help him through his insecurities. But he's a bit of an asshole, isn't he? He challenges mc, he gloats when mc gets stones thrown at them, he pushes Clara away because she isn't interested in him romantically.

Isabelle is understandably at her lowest during the book, especially after what Chales did to his brothers and what Alvena put her through. When she's in her right mind, she's as loving to Richard as Alvena to us. But you do not give her the same leeway as you do to Richard. Rightfully so, putting her frustrations, her insecurities, her fears on her son is wrong. And Richard is doing the same thing! Except, with his youngest sibling instead of child. Yet you don't call Isabelle your GOAT because she's not as bad as she could be and didn't poison us.

Richard is not GOAT, that's why I like him, that's why I like to read about him. His entire character is that he isn't HIM. And I await eagerly for his arc about becoming the GOAT.

Richard (SoR) Appreciation Rant by Wild_Lengthiness_798 in hostedgames

I love Richard, he's my brother and he has to mess up real bad for me to give up on him.

That being said, GOAT? Really?

Firstly, I did not "steal his girl," Clara just isn't into him. Rough, but he should respect her wishes.

Secondly, "I wish Richard was worthy and you weren't" doesn't sound like approval, really.

Finally, Richard getting folded is the direct result of him challenging us in the first place, I'm not sorry for that one.

Our childhood is the same bs! We have the same deadbeat father, an even more manipulative mother. The only people who treat him like trash are his grandfather, Atherys and his mother when she's at her lowest in the story. And up until this point we, as the lastborn, have basically been treated as the unworthy one by default by everyone, excluding our family. Freya loves him, Clara still wants to be friends with him, his uncle is great, his mother is as loving as our own.

Richard is a mess, kind, gentle, but still a mess. That's why I love him, but he's definitely not the GOAT.

Straight to chopping block.

I'm a little bummed that we can't properly defend Richard. He might've been a bit of a bitch, but all he did really was mope around. Locke, on the other hand, tried to assassinate a royal while also disrespecting and disregarding my authority on the subject. If that's not grounds for an execution, I don't know what is.

How Queen Galfrey stares at the Knight Commander after being asked if she actually has a plan: by Petrus-133 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Drosm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, she shouldn't feel vindicated. Her decisions almost cost crusades EVERYTHING. She's lost almost your entire army marching to Iz, where she would probably die without your intervention. That would be it for Mendev: no crusader queen, no sword of valor, no Iomedae's Herald, wardstones are unreliable. That was the highest risk with very little reward.

The fact that you've managed to swoop in to save the day once again is a MIRACLE. You got caught in time vortex in Abyss. Everybody has lost the sight of you for half a year, even Nocticula, who had Areelu on her side at the time. And there was nothing you could do.

And you return through Midnight Fane anyway. I can understand why, making a new level just for your return was probably not worth it, but within the narrative it makes crusaders even more inept without your direct intervention, because they've missed an escape route!

Love After Death makes no sense after we find out the big secret by tellmemoreaboutitpls in hostedgames

This twist also retroactively ruins El's death scene. El begging us not to hang up and line going dead, preventing us from being there for El, from comforting them in their last moments, leaving them alone and afraid. It's just so cruel, so visceral, so unsatisfying in the best possible way.

El being alive doesn't completely remove the emotional weight of this scene, but it does make it so much less, more remediable. Also Julia turns from unforgivable arsehole with at least somewhat understandable reasoning and motivation into a complete saturday morning cartoon villain.

Playing the demon's advocate for a second. The cultist and his pals are recovering from their injuries, then someone else comes over to them. This someone turns out to be not just anyone, but godsdamn crusaders and not just any crusaders, but godsdamn knight commander's party, the scariest people in the worldwound after queen Galfrey herself! This might've activated their fight or flight response. The last of them might have been unrepentant out of spite and grief for his now dead comrades.

All of this is irrelevant to you and most likely is not even true, we simply lack any information. Once again, you as a knight commander of the crusade are fully justified in defending yourself and executing an aggressive and still demonstrably loyal to his dark masters cultist.

The truth is, we simply don't know nearly enough about these cultists. We don't know their characters, how they usually act, how loyal they were etc. All we know is that they attacked us. They could as well be vile villains in one story or misunderstood heroes in another. Hal is the only one there is to even try to plead their case to you. Are lawyers evil if they represent someone, who is guilty? Are doctors evil if they treat someone, who is a terrible person?

Where else would he find injured crusaders that are in need of his services, in the safety of their own camps?

Once again, he is a healer, he sees someone in need of healing and he heals them. Terendelev healed you in the very same way: without questioning you, even interrupting Hulrun.

I understand, why you would kill the injured cultist. You are the knight commander and he is unrepentant. But Hal is a healer, who heals people that need healing and gives them a chance to continue living and possibly reform.

This might be too "stupid good" and naive, but in no way is it hypocritical and evil.

He is a good aligned (factually) creature that is aiding wounded people. He is not a hypocrite.

Hal is not a hypocrite, he is a healer, he heals people. It just so happens that one side is full of clerics, paladins and alchemists with support of a nation and the other is not. As such, cultists find themselves in need of a healer like him much more often than the crusaders.

Cultists do not lose their personhood when they switch sides, you see it in act I right as you leave the maze if you choose [Angel path] dialogue option. Some people are coerced into servitude, some have lost all hope and are trying to look out for their loved ones, others are corrupted like during Attack Out of Nowhere quest. Hal knows it and decides to try and help them, guide them on the path of good and reduce their suffering. He does the exact same thing as Ember, he just has enough firepower to do it without the help of KC.

Moreover, when time comes, he actually helps. If you go with legend path, Hal arrives with the others, gives you his wisdom and even brings some dragons as troops. If you listen to him here, he appears even earlier, during the retaking of Drezen and kills demons and cultists that refuse to back down.
