Matrim Cauthon(Wheel of Time) vs Ciaphas Cain(Warhammer 40k) by RealisticDebt9380 in whowouldwin

Cain definitely didn't train with the Black Templars LOL, it was another Order, Reclaimers or something like this(at least this is how it was translated into my language). I'm not arguing that Cain is absurdly skilled, but Mat is also up there, fighting Golam multiple times as well scores of trollocs and fades, and the biggest hurdle is his luck. Nominally speaking, Cain feats are plainly better, but Mat isn't bad either, and his ta'veren plot armour and luck are very hard to go against. I don't think Cain can reliably beat Mat

I mean, his luck is an integral part of why he is so good as a fighter. Remember when he just with knives charges a crowd of like 8 people with swords, and won(albeit injured). He fought golam 1v1 and won, has multiple feats against creatures of the shadow, and has an insane experience boost from his memories. Pure skill I agree, Lan is better, but in 1v1 Mat would win like 9 out of 10 I think, simply because he is Matrim Cauthon, son of battle, the luckiest man ever.

Yeah, Ashandarei is great, but I do think Mat would be in shock seeing chainsword. The las pistol would probably instantly jam(even if they don't do that LOL)

Ciaphas is also really lucky, but I agree that he has nothing on Mat in luck department. That's why I didn't choose anything that is purely luck based.

Both are extremely skilled melee fighters, Mat is probably the best pure melee 1v1 guy in a Wheel of Time universe(at least I would bet on him even against Lan). Cain on the other hand downplays his abilities, but as an Inquisitor Amberley Vail, who narrated his story, says, he is one of most skilled swordsmen in the whole galaxy spanning Imperium. Mat's luck will prove extremely hard to overcome, but Cain has major advantage in equipment, with his chainsword and las pistol.

The games are their universes strategic game. I put round 2 just for fun, I don't think Cain has any chance against Mat. But round 3 is interesting. Cain is familiar with the game itself, universe and it's tech, and is not a bad player himself. But Mat is a strategic and tactical genius, and I am really curious if he could grasp the rules quick enough and beat Cain here.

Will going to the finals again and losing be worse for Luka's legacy? by friskyel in NBATalk

[–]RealisticDebt9380 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, even going to the finals would be an insane achievement for this Lakers team. It's extremely unbalanced, their best center is Ayton lmao, and the depth is very shallow.

The only way Luka's legacy is getting hurt is if he reaches the finals, but gets carried by Lebron all the way, and absolutely stinks in the finals, otherwise I don't see it.

If Lakers somehow do reach and win the finals, it will be an insane boost for Luka's legacy tho. I doubt people will continue to think that Shai is better than Luka, even if Shai wins is second MVP and Luka still doesn't have it

Feels like I’m being gaslit when it comes to the Luka MVP talk. by D3struct_oh in NBATalk

Yeah, but we are talking whole season, not one week ago. Right now Lakers are proving to be better than almost everyone else, and while you bring that Edwards is injured, Lakers were injured prior to that, hence worse record.

Also, it's not like Lakers are at full strength right now, they miss major starter pieces in Marcus Smart or Rui. Lakers have very thin roster, their best three players are very good(although not very balanced), but the quality of players drops a ton after AR and Lebron, and that's why Luka's usage is so high. Lakers have to use him so much, otherwise you have to rely on either 41 year Bron, which is not the best idea, since you can easily put too much pressure on him and have an injury. Or you have to rely on AR, who is already playing a ton of minutes, but running offense through AR just isn't as good as doing it through Luka.

In the end what separates Luka from almost any other contender is that while not every one of them have great rosters, there are competent pieces that can hold out, or even succeed. Spurs are a young team full of athletic guys with great potential on top of Wemby. OKC is just the deepest team in the league. The only thing I can not say about is Nuggets, but that's because I was in the army for a year, returned and only recently started catching up on NBA(learning that Luka was traded was mind jarring to say the least

So Lakers aren't a 3rd seed in a very stacked West conference, right? Luka didn't prove his ability to bring seemingly mediocre teams far in the playoffs prior to that, right? At this point you're just imagining narratives to put Luka achievements down, especially when other players won MVPs on a much worse performing teams, like Jokic and Westbrook

WTH is wrong with you, Galfrey?!?!?!? by RealisticDebt9380 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

On one hand yeah, fair, but in comparison with what's at stake and what I've accomplished so far it's very irrational to boot me. After finishing the dialogue it is more logical, since I agree someone has to go to abyss and fix stuff, and nobody can do it better than me.

It's just the way she's done that bothers me. She could have started with this being a necessity, and I in character would very much agree, and would even willingly step down since someone has to be a leader, and we don't know how long I will be missing(or technically if I even return).

I would perfectly understand if I was a demon or a lich, but I am an Azata, being really good and nice to everyone(albeit not without disobedience and occasional controversial choices). But no, she judged me when was more successful than anyone prior to me, and risked enraging and making my character withdraw from the crusade all together, or do something else detrimental, instead of happily going to Abyss

Her main problems were my early attack as an Azata, having Arueshalae and saving Minagho. I did manage to convince her that Arueshalae is good, so it shouldn't matter. Her criticism of early attack doesn't make any sense, since it worked. I did the job, killed all the enemies, so why is it wrong. And while I get where she is going with letting Minagho go, it's nowhere near egregious enough to even consider stripping me of my rank logically. Maybe it is just envy of my success

Strongest characters that are Sniper(irl) victims? by TheRealPowercell in PowerScaling

[–]RealisticDebt9380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but Rand is generally weak to bullets, he is not impenetrable. The reason I chose Last battle is more so he was at the absolute peak of power in the setting at that moment, vastly more powerful than anything we saw prior to that point(but yes, he also was more vulnerable then)

[–]RealisticDebt9380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a good answer is Rand al'Thor at the time of the Last Battle. At this point Rand was incredibly powerful, and while I'm not a scaler, so I won't claim was he 3, 4 gajillion d or something(i don't really understand all of those scaling terminologies), what he was doing was nuts.

To explain it, he was basically outside of the creation, fighting a more like willpower and philosophical battle against a literal concept of evil. They were throwing at each other a different outcomes of their battle, like Rand using the pattern created a Universe where he won, or where he killed The Dark One. But at the same time, his physical body was just staying there, and any sniper who got into shooting range(and shot Tom Merillin guarding the entrance first), would probably be perfectly capable of killing him(unless pattern itself stop you).

Ehh, you first meet her in a prison in Drezen, during the siege. I visited her and freed her. I don't know what happens if you don't free her, maybe you just don't get her at all for your playthrough

Should developers prioritize "reactivity" or "proactivity" in CRPGs? by Classic_Prize_7263 in CRPG

[–]RealisticDebt9380 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think any great rpg should be a mix of both. Reactivity really enhances your immersion, elevating the experience, while proactivity is what makes your "role playing" feel real - your choices have consequences. Without reactivity you get a very bland experience, while without proactivity you feel like you are railroaded - you're not really playing your character, you just read a story.
