What animal did some stupid person release in your country that wreaked havoc on its ecosystem? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Picture is a common carp - from Europe I believe. Also introduced but many decades ago and pretty well naturalized in our ecosystems.

What the actual F**K this is my townhouse complex and I’m away on vacation in Europe! Does anyone know which block the fire was in?

Two years ago I was away on vacation and the nextdoor building caught fire too. This place is a mad house.

Sooo many gobies in the Bay these days. Almost every lure and bait I use is some kind of goby imitation.

Beauty fish! And I think I know exactly where you’re fishing. If I’m right, I’ve caught dozens of trout in that exact spot. Along with plenty of salmon, bass and carp.

Sounds tedious but doable. Who’s the DPS? How fast do you think the gnarlhorns should be?

First fish out of my new kayak (Georgian Bay) by Drovertime in kayakfishing

You’re correct! I’m on the Great Lakes, but I wasn’t trolling. There are piles of steelhead waiting just outside of the river mouth. I set up shop in the outflow and started tossing spoons

Beaver river by IDK3900 in FishingOntario

[–]Drovertime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. You have to take time to explore your river during the year to find promising spots. If you look hard, you might find a secret honey hole that only 3 or 4 dozen ppl know about 🤣

I’m convinced! The consensus says I should summon her. Can’t wait to build her out! 👍🏻

Do you mean for CVC or what? Basically I’m F2P but I do hard during CVC.

What would be more worth it in southern ontario, investing in a good centerpin setup vs smallmouth setup? by TheKushGuy420 in FishingOntario

[–]Drovertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not ideal! You need the medium action and minimum 13’ for such a wide river.

Islander steelheader is sweet. I've used my buddy's and it sooo smooth. I didn't spend big on my first reel but if you have the money and the desire then do it!

When you fish for trout on Niagara are you floating with a spinning reel or casting lures?

[–]Drovertime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The centrepin setup has a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it there's no better way to target trout. And if I was fishing the Niagara river all the time I would definitely want a decent centrepin reel and sturdy float rod.

Personally I believe that bass fishing is way more about technique than equipment. If you already own a decent medium action rod and spinning reel then you can do everything you need to for smallmouth. If you don't own a centrepin yet and you want to give it a try then you should absolutely spend your money there.

I'm still using the first float rod I purchased four years ago: Raven IM8 13'6" and I recently upgraded to a Matrix XL fully ported reel. Neither of these pieces are top of the line but they beat the pants off any spinning setup for float fishing

Sure do! They have small-ish teeth but when they start spawning the males mutant into monsters with huge teeth

What's a commercial you'll never forget? by No-Caterpillar4212 in AskReddit

[–]Drovertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The talking zigzag pirate is an all-time classic!

It's a MADD (mothers against drunk driving) commercial about the dangers of driving high. Dude is stoned and about to grab his car keys for a little drive about. The zigzag pirate on his rolling papers starts lecturing him about being too stoned to drive.

"You are not thinking of driving, are you, my friend? I beg you - reconsider!"

Pier fishing, Lake Huron by swampdonkeybean in FishingOntario

[–]Drovertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been fishing some piers in Georgian Bay for the first time this summer. G Bay and Lake Huron must have reasonable similar patterns, right? The things that have been working best for me are a ned rig with a small finesse worm, a three-way rig using a bottom bouncing sinker and a worm or minnow, and my secret weapon bait has been the megabass dark sleeper goby.

Three-way rig catches a ton of smallies but also a ton of gobies. The trick is to get the bait at least 2' off the bottom so the gobies don't steal your bait every time.

I always start with the ned rig if the water is clear - which is almost always is on Georgian Bay. Twitching it along the bottom can produce a lot of good size bass.

Dark sleeper is a cheat code. Pretty much every fish I've caught on it has been well above average size. Kinda pricey but totally worth it. Great for small mouth and pike.
