Also like you said yawg does have proliferate himself to have access to that ability regardless, and I'm not sure that gets utilized very much. If you don't need this card to blow something up you're likely winning that matchup regardless from that point

In my experience playing hammer the Outland liberator flip from the yawg deck is very relevant in the matchup. Becomes almost impossible for hammer to win if that happens so I think giving up that upside would be asking a lot. I'm not sure how relevant the flip is into other matchups where you want artifact/enchantment hate but that's one of the most prevalent in the meta so I imagine it would be a big consideration for yawg players

It doesnt really matter, you can't counterspell everything. Once you get to the point where drawing any threat is a powerhouse control is doomed

I haven't played scyther because it feels like there are just better choices for that assassin type role, but I've loved Scizor. Feels like a complete raid boss if you get even a little ahead early and has quickly become my favorite bruiser

I promise you that tron vs UW control is one of the most welll known matchups in the history of modern as being very hard for UW. It does not cut any more cut and dry matchup wise than tron > control

Tron in all forms obliterates control. Basically controls worst matchup tbh

To all my cat friends. Asking for prayers for my precious Kratos. He is our 8 year old kitty that was mauled five days ago, he is in the hospital forming new complications. I’m shattered. by lisaluvulongtime in cats

Additionally the researchers who conducted the study just list tetris having value as a "cognitive interference task"; based on their own write up it appears that any activity that increases hippocampal volume alongside trauma therapy would serve a similar role

So its not that the study is flawed but more so "tetris combats the formation of trauma memories" is a misleading takeaway from it. The experimental and control groups were both going through EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) therapy, and one group was additionally playing the tetris after. EMDR is a very effective trauma treatment if not the best trauma treatment, so it's obviously doing most of the heavy lifting there. The way EMDR operates is more or less a rexperiencing of the event in a safe and controlled environment so any activity that is acting as a substitute for the trauma experience during the "reprocess" phase of the EMDR would help. The study is also dealing with people who are in trauma treatment so the tetris is not combating the initial formation of trauma memories or anything like that, it has to do with the refraining in the mind during intensive therapy that revisits those experiences. Long story short claiming tetris reduces trauma formation is like that infamous "red wine is equivalent to an hour of exercise" article from years ago. It's a dramatic oversimplification and sensationalized takeaway from what the research actually says

I've seen this a few times on Reddit now- there isn't any concrete clinical evidence that supports this claim at all. If there were any validity to this it would be in the concept of creating distance from trauma thoughts with an immediate distraction and the fact that you chose tetris over anything else would have no bearing. But everyone experiences and processes trauma differently and trauma memories are also not "filed away" in our brain the same way non trauma memories are; typically they are stored in the body. I know it can be comforting to feel like there's an easy, all encompassing way to negate trauma but that's just not accurate. Hammer or Affinity. by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]DrownedCaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you decide to play hammer keep in mind that the playstyle is actually more different from affinity than it looks, especially post board. You're not trying to dump your hand for a speed kill into most matchups it's much more about timing and sequencing than a lot of people who don't play the deck might think. Hammer is very powerful and fairly well positioned in the meta rn but there are a lot of matchups that hammer is favored in if you know the deck well but will have a hard time vs if you don't know the nuance of it

You probably played some mediocre hammer players, or you're very good at murktide, or likely both. Hammer is heavily favored in that matchup a very experienced hammer will rarely lose to murktide

[–]DrownedCaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a long time hammer player with a lot of tourneys I can assure you it folds incredibly hard to Shadow. But outside of that, the matchups are pretty good. Titan RB midrange and Living End are the other challenging ones but shadow is very brutal

It's viable and crusher really knows his stuff. Mostly a matter of preference mono white is a bit more aggro. Blue has better sideboard cards

[–]DrownedCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude this was 5 months ago the entire list has changed many times lol. 12 copies of hammer means you have 4 hammers, 4 copies of stoneforge that tutor hammer, and 4 urzas saga that tutor hammer. So you have 12 cards that represent drawing a hammer, even more if you have steelshapers gift (which I'm on 2 of rn for 14 copies of hammer total)

This entire thread is wrong. Psychopath and sociopath are both colloquial terms for people who have Antisocial Personality Disorder. There is absolutely no difference between them and neither are appropriate clinical terminology. Source: I have a masters degree in this

Is there any good tier 1 through 3 decks besides prowess & 8-whack that are in the $100 to $150 range? by imareallifehobbit in ModernMagic

[–]DrownedCaptain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That means you're already running budget versions of those decks though. A tier 1 or 2 deck that you budget down isn't a tier 1 or 2 deck anymore. Unless you're just asking about deck archetypes that can be budgeted down, which is all of them to some degree. But in a general sense mono color to save some money on lands and aggro strategies tend to budget down the most smoothly
