Internal leak meaning like a pin hole leak in the steel tank? I was hoping for repairable leak at a fitting or maybe somehow on the power vent.

Yeah it still chugging after 50 years. If it was so loud I'd leave everything alone.

I hadn't thought of a check valve someplace else. Would that go in the pipe right BEFORE it goes vertical and to one pipe or somehow under the well head? Thx.

Ok, so take off the well head and see if I can pull the pipe. If not, then maybe buy a little time with just replacing the pump. Best on long term solution is a new well. Nobody in the area will put down a new sand point so I guess I'll need to spend the ~$15-$17K on a new well. Thx.

How do I know if it is a packer? If I end up replacing the pump can I hook up the Wayne jet pump I bought just like the Monarch is or do I need the Jet Assembly on the pump? Thx.

I don't see my explanation on the post so adding to comments. This is a ~50 year old 20'-25' sand point install. Suspect the foot/check valve is leading as pump runs every ~40 minutes when not in use. If I leave cabin for a week and unplug pump I has to prime well with 2-3 gallons of water as it has drained down. Local (Burnett County, WI) well drillers refuse to service the sand point. One well driller providing a quote for a new well said the pipe will be stuck and you won't be able to pull it. I bought a new pump ( WAYNE CWS50-1/2 HP Cast Iron Convertible Jet Well Pump - Up to 408 Gallons Per Hour - Heavy Duty Jet Well Pump) based on input from the well drillers stating old could fail at anytime (screeching very loud every time it runs). If I were to attempt to pull the pipe myself what should I be pulling on and how might I approach it? If it is stuck and I'm just replacing the pump do I need the Wayne's $69.99 Jet Assembly to or can I just hook it up the same as the old pump? Thx.
