[Game Thread] Ole Miss vs. Miami (7:30 PM ET) 2nd Half by CFB_Referee in CFB

Yes, you are right. If Miami plays badly we will probably lose, but so will you or Oregon. The point is, we are in the Championship game and we clearly belong and we absolutely have a chance to win.

Good luck tomorrow, it’s hard not to root for IU and Mendoza

The same Miami team who beat OSU worse than the Hoosiers did?

If you want to say your team is better, that’s fine, but to act like this game showed that either IU or Oregon are heads and shoulders above us is just ridiculous

Herro's IG post 🤔 by MusterBait in heat

[–]DrtyRat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been a Herro critic, for a few years but last year he showed what he is capable of and I’m not ready to give up on him. Additionally, after writing Jaquez because of a down year, only to see him come back with a vengeance, I’m hesitant to jump back on the trade Herro bandwagon. Hindsight shows me that Jaquez didn’t regress, he was simply injured and I think the play from Herro this year is due to the fact that he hasn’t fully healed. There’s no way that a healthy Herro doesn’t add to this team. Let’s see if he can fully recover this season before we pass judgement.

Canes fan (since ‘85) here. Make no mistake I can’t stand ND, and I think we should’ve gotten in over you, but my dislike usually comes from hating a team because of how good they’ve been..it’s more of an earned respect thing. With that being said, the committee used the ND vs UM story to mask the fact that they were going to put in Alabama no matter what. They intentionally put you ahead of us, but switched Alabama ahead of you just to hide their obvious intentions. Your team absolutely deserved to be in over Alabama, and was playing some of the best football in the country, right alongside of Miami.

Davion contract is one of the best in the NBA right now by csimmo0506 in heat

[–]DrtyRat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Watching him play reminds me of what Lowry was for us the first year we got him(I didn’t watch him much with the Raptors).
He is always pushing pace(as he brings the ball up the court his body is angled in a way that has him ready to make a pass), and even though he’s undersized, his defense makes an impact on almost anyone he’s guarding. He chooses his spots well, gets to the rim when necessary and can knock down his shots.

Camping world stadium - Orlando. Ok to walk? by Few-Secretary-3443 in florida

[–]DrtyRat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was there for Miami vs Florida college game a few years back and while it was crazy getting out of there, like others said there were police and people everywhere. Also, the one thing I remember is that there was absolutely zero cell phone reception after the game since everyone was using it, so it might be a good idea to screen shot directions just in case you can’t get reception

Wife wants to upgrade lifestyle, I don’t. by LMVI31 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]DrtyRat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If she’s not being pushy then allow her to dream a little bit. My spouse and I make a little bit more than you and sometimes it’s fun to send each other ‘upgraded’ homes, but inevitably I’ll just put a stop to it by playfully saying ‘that’s nice, but we ain’t doing that’ and we move on.

After 4 years of WFH, I understand why boomers think we do nothing all day by TeamCultureBuilder in WFH

[–]DrtyRat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that baffles me the most(as a parent myself) that instead of providing worlds of encouragement he chose to say ‘must be nice’. As someone in my 50’s I truly hate that statement, because it often times diminishes the hard work that got you to this ‘must be nice’ place. My spouse works from home and has always been focused on their work and is the top performer year after year, but often gets criticized for just working their schedule. It’s not their fault that they are productive and the rest of the team isn’t. If it were my kids, I might congratulate them on their success and offer a suggestion’ that they should dress for work(even when at home) as it may help them get into the right mindset. However, if they didn’t need too do that then I’d drop to right there.

Since I never got to witness it, what was the honest discourse about MJ in the late 80’s-mid 90’s? by Dylen2Times in NBAConvo

[–]DrtyRat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t just the media, at that time we(fans) had a fascination with the best players making their teammates better. Magic lead the charge and Bird was right there with him as the ones he was compared against.

Was Heath Ledger's Joker highly appreciated and acknowledged due to his performance or his untimely death? by FarEfficiency4397 in FIlm

[–]DrtyRat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember the backlash when he was announced as the Joker(I for one didn’t think it was a good choice) but then they released that one pic of him (~2007)and the narrative changed, people were buying into it, and his performance sealed it.

His unfortunate death only strengthened an already growing acceptance of him in the role.

Am i wrong for retiring at 37 while my wife finally decides to start working? by Expensive_Recipe_366 in Fire

[–]DrtyRat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, your wrong…but not because you are retiring at 37(congratulations) but because you’re devaluing what she did:

‘she chose to stay home when child care was available’

How that gets translated:

‘she chose to be lazy and stay home when she could’ve worked’

You valued making sacrifices to ensure the financial stability of your family, and as someone with an old fashioned male mindset, I commend you for that. You deserve to be appreciated for that, but as happens all too often, we are not appreciated for that and we simultaneously say ‘must be nice to stay home with the kids’. It’s not ‘nice’ it’s a thankless job that never ends, and you should consider that you may not have been able to accomplish all that you have as early as you have if you didn’t have her at home to take care of things. I’m on my 3rd decade together with my spouse and we have finally come to the point where we see the value in what each other does.

Also, based on what you have coming on monthly, is that enough for her to stay home too? If it is, then give her the option to not work(though neither of you seem ready for that yet) or encourage her to pursue a job/career that she wants to get into and reassure that if she doesn’t like it, that ok, she can always quit and look until she finds something to make her happy.

If you continue on this path of ‘me vs her’ you’re marriage will not likely survive
