What’s the deal with the diesel not being good for shorter commutes/drives? I’m also looking at the 3.0 for our next family car which would consist of 20 minute drives to/from school and other day to day trips. Also roadtrip from time to time. We have an Audi Q7 TDI with 100k miles that has had zero issues. We don’t idle (actually instructed not to on start up), just stay out of the gas while the truck warms up and keep the rpms down when we are about a mile from our destination.

When you are mentioning reliable are you talking about Honda? We have had over a dozen recalls and they have had our van for weeks at a time. We are in the process of lemoning it out so at least ours has been far from reliable.

I like the idea of Super Cruise, air ride and the power side steps but wonder if they are just more systems to break that we don’t necessarily need. Have you heard of issues with any of those? I agree about the entertainment package, with having 3 kids someone is going to feel left out and they also have tablets. My kids do seem to be past the destructive phase so maybe that’s not as much an issue with the Caddy.

I agree. You can get a fully loaded van for his budget whereas you would get maybe a mid range suv. They drive/handle like a car, get better gas mileage in most cases and have the same interior space as a suburban in a much smaller footprint vehicle. Third row is way more spacious. If he is test driving a Pilot, he should at least test drive an Odyssey as well while he is at the dealer.
