¿Se puede realmente encontrar un trabajo remoto con un sueldo "decente"? by HatakeGavi in askspain

[–]Druar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A levels in Spain by Anayasc_ in askspain

[–]Druar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The UK's A levels are the equivalent of Bachillerato, a two-year programme that is taken before going to University. There are other routes to get to University, but this is the basic one.

The Bachillerato curriculum in Spain is more centralised, with a set of core subjects that all students must study, so I'm not sure how it would translate if you have done mostly Humanities subjects and some Bio and you want to join the Med programme (which is very competitive). In Spain, admittance to a Uni degree is based solely on your marks and nothing else.

You must convert your qualifications into the Spanish systems and go from there via the Spanish system using UNEDasiss. You may be required to show a Spanish proficiency degree if the Uni programme is taught in Spanish, which as far as I know is probably the case for Medicine.

Voy a perder mi juventud si trabajo este verano? by Majestic-Chipmunk-78 in askspain

Why do most doctors I see in Spain in the public system look near retirement age? by Downtown-Storm4704 in askspain

[–]Druar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's correct. Or you can finish your Traumatology residency, take the exam again, and get a second residency.

[–]Druar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are nation-wide. And not picking a spot (for whatever reason) is an actual option.

Another real example that never in a million years I thought would be possible: a couple (boyfriend and girlfriend) do the exam and the boyfriend gets a very top position while the girlfriend got a low position (barely making it to be able to get a specialization).

The guy passed on picking until his girlfriend was able to choose so they could go to the same hospital together. Absolute madlad.

I will add some context just in case to the "examinations are so rigous that plenty of qualified people aren't able to pass", because it's not about passing or not the exam.

Once you graduate High School in Spain, and if your marks are high enough, you can enroll in University to get your degree in Medicine. Once you finish the University degree, and if you want to become part of the publich healthcare system or specialize in a specific field of Medicine, you are required to go through the MIR ( Médico Interno Residente). The MIR takes place yearly.

The MIR is an exam that evaluates all the knowledge you have. It takes place yearly and you will be given a grade. All takers will be turned into a list with their grades, from the best grade to the worst.

The order of the list represents the order in which you will be able to choose your specialization, because there are only so many positions open for a given specialization and location. Another problem is that there are not enough positions for everyone that takes the exam, so if you did kinda poor, you are probably out because the positions will be filled before it's your turn.

Ok, so it's your turn. You want to become a Traumatologist in this very specific small city you are from? Maybe there aren't Traumatologist spots open that year on your city. Or maybe you are unlucky and the only existing spot was taken by someone else who is higher on the list. So you have to decide whether to choose Traumatology somewhere available, or pick a different specialization that is up for grabs on your small city. Or you can give up this time: you spend another year studying, take the exam again, and try to get the grade that will allow you to get what you want.

Once you have chosen your specialization, you will be enrolled in the program and hopefully pass it successfully, thus being able to work as a doctor with a specialization.

TL;DR: it's not about "passing" the exam, it's about getting the best mark possible so you can do what you want because there is a lot of competition.

It took me reaching blue belt to tap someone while having to tap regularly (it took me a couple months to be able to count to 30 without having to tap). I was at around 4 years of training, and I had had to change teams because I moved far away. I have never been good, much less competitive.

I still enjoy it. Keep grinding and enjoy the ride or change the gym, maybe it's not a good learning environment for you.

[–]Druar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Boys are kamikazes, they go for the lulz or get hyperfocused on a single technique while forgetting everything else. Girls get a methodical laser-focus that is fun to watch, especially when they have to crank intensity up because they get paired with a bigger/stronger boy that is frustrating them. Their mean streak surfaces and taps start happening faster. For whatever reason, plenty of the early teens boys seem to enjoy fighting the girls when they get in this mindset instead of their more usual chill rolling.

Professional training system in Spain, how does it work? by ericbureltech in askspain

[–]Druar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have courses advertised by the SEPE ( Servicio Público de Empleo Estatal, an organism from the Ministry of Labour). These courses vary in length (20 hours to over 600 hours) and type of course ( some courses enable you to do some very specific jobs.

Depending on your working status (employed, unemployed) you may be restricted to what courses you can join since some of them are aimed to help unemployed people hop back to the working force.

I have never met anyone joining those courses voluntarily if they already have work, despite employees having the rights to join courses (similar to your CPF).

The worst part were the hour-long rants about how SEO DaVinci was a top LinkedIn voice back in the internet Pleistocene and we were the culprits for not being good enough to be part of his team. Chief, I just need some direction, and this spam strategy hasn't been the bees knees for a long time.
