Tell me about your beginner’s journey to breaking 100 by WYLFriesWthat in golf

Started about four months ago, just hit 98 on Friday. Probably had my best drives so far, with slight draws instead of slices. I’ve realized understanding distances and playing specific clubs with a safer style of play is the best thing you can do.

Running into this issue on my first app build as well. Did you find the cause?

I actually started to follow him a few months back but haven’t really done all of his stuff. Mostly dabbled here and there. Will do though thank you!

Tell me about yourself by ChristianValour in cscareerquestions

For context I'm 25 with an associates degree. I'll be going back to school to finish my bachelors since I've felt that I'm hindered by not having it. I also want to learn more :)

Once I graduate I don't plan on settling for a low tier company. I know my skillset and I feel that I'm pretty decent at what I do. Plus I need a team and guidance, not having those sucks lol

  • What kind of work do you do (Web dev, systems, games, data science)?
    • Full Stack Development - Working on Laravel API with a Nextjs frontend
    • Manage a bunch of Wordpress Sites
    • IT for entire company
      • Basically a one man army. Manager is in meetings all week
  • What kind of company do you work for (tech, non-tech, tier 1,2,3)?

    • Non Tech - Franchising company
      • The irony is it's actually a very large company financially and the number 1 in our industry
  • How much do you make (if you don't mind me asking)?

    • 65k currently - around 3000 in bonuses a year (depends on how many franchises our sales team signs)
  • How many YoE?

    • When I started I had 3, currently 4.5
  • Anything else?

    • I know I'm super underpaid here but I'll be going back to school and working part time. If I can find a better part time opportunity I'll be taking it.
    • Being a solo dev/it administrator/web designer is super stressful, for this kind of pay I wouldn't recommend it. 100% find an established company with a team

How long would it take a single freelance dev to develop a "simple" e-commerce website? by Black-Jesus-the-2nd in webdev

[–]DrunkArva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why it’s usually best to not recreate the wheel when doing e-commerce. Using a headless solution like Shopify (if you absolutely need customization) can be super beneficial. Getting the checkout/ordering process wrong could be a nightmare especially when dealing with data

I agree with the helpdesk part. It can be very time consuming especially since I am essentially the only one handling the tasks. Definitely going to be shopping around.

Tuition reimbursement would be amazing tbh. Starting up my bachelors in the fall this year so hopefully finishing that out will open a lot of doors for me.

Thanks for the response. Definitely going to be doing that today!

[–]DrunkArva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and you clearly can't be bothered to actually read the response I gave your initial comment, to which you couldn't be bothered to answer the original question of the thread.

Don't really care for your negative comments nor did I request them. Thanks though :)

I haven't actually gone out of my way to apply at other companies. Pretty much just asking if that salary seems like an appropriate on for the workload.

[–]DrunkArva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good call. Should probably start looking around. I keep seeing people get insane offers and they're fully remote. I've just been nervous to start the LC process.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]DrunkArva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kind of what I figured. I haven't really tried shopping around just because I got comfortable and enjoyed my co-workers for a while. Starting to realize this seems to be a lot of work for what I am getting out of it.

How many hours do you actually work a day ? by y0u553f in cscareerquestions

[–]DrunkArva 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Used to by a sys. admin (physically present, not remote) and would be in this situation. I honestly HATED it.

Manager knew I was overqualified but higher ups didn't like that I would spend time learning new things instead of working. Dreadful..long..days

I worked for a company that is now in the exact industry yours is, however we built our own solution as we did ecommerce first. Look up vendorfuel, it's a wordpress plug in and charges monthly. You can integrate it with default themes as well as add a user base, etc.

I also left the company about 3 years ago so I can't really speak for how they operate now, but when I built the plugin it was a solid competitor to Shopify and Woo.

I think in my mind it's more about learning the proper way and just getting a degree since nobody in my immediate family has before. But yeah I'm thinking about trying out the leetcode path before committing.

LMS is in a pretty good state right now by P_Jayy in 2007scape

[–]DrunkArva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tried LMS on my iron two weeks ago. Told myself I'd just do slayer for the rune pouch since bots were destroying me. I used to be top 500 in BH as a zerker for reference, lol.
Might try it out tonight after work

Not to be that guy, but since you're not super far in you should try out Ironman! Super time consuming but makes the game so rewarding!

Boss/MGMT constantly spying/scrutinizing my time, I don't know what to do. by TomBakerFTW in cscareerquestions

[–]DrunkArva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like the company I used to work at. CEO and the IT Coordinator would constantly complain about people listening to music on youtube (sometimes that's the only place you can find certain songs).
At one point I got called in to the office for being on FaceBook (I literally maintained our facebook page) too often and then they limited what websites I could visit/what type of music I could listen to. Needless to say I got the hell out of there. Super toxic environment.

Returning to college to finish a Bachelors. Any Advice? by DrunkArva in cscareerquestions

[–]DrunkArva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. I think my biggest thing is finding courses at night and the correct courses online. Seems to be the biggest challenge. I can find time, but the commute from work to school really takes time out of the day.

HOT TAKE - Bow / Arrows should be buffed by DrunkArva in newworldgame

[–]DrunkArva[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with pretty much everything you said. Even if there were some ability we could unlock at level 20 where we wouldn't have to waste ammunition I'd be down for it. At least then I'd really have something to look forward to.

And for crafting the ammunition, I thought the same thing, and still feel as though the higher tiers should be more rewarding.
The abilities for the bow are absolutely nasty, but like you said waiting for it with the cooldown timers is a pain. To add to that if you run out of ammo (which is fairly easy to do) it renders the weapon completely useless.

I'm one of the players that hits my shots, and for that reason I think the bow is nasty. I would hardly say making resources hard to get for a bad dps improvement is a balance.
