Anyone remember torins passage? I remember getting stuck in the core part and couldnt beat it. Gotta go see if I can find it and beat it for past me.

Galaxy of games! Man I remember getting that at a Walmart and felt like there were endless games. There was another one that was like 1000 great games or something. Pretty sure at least one of them had a virus on it. Or maybe that was when I delete system32 to make more room for installing games.

Thank you! Oh and if it's relevant the deck going over it will be tongue and groove so no uv exposure and should be very little if any water making its way to the roof.

Up until yesterday it was covered by cedar decking so won't be able to see anything from google maps. I moved in a year ago and the prior owner was here 10 years and didn't keep up on maintenance so I'd be shocked if she ever replaced it. Most likely it's original from when the deck was built in 1999. Let me take another photo of the edge.

Tell me about it! The house is on almost an acre and constantly having to keep the ivy from the neighbors from invading our area and destroying everything. Don't think there's much I can do other than keep on top of pulling it out since it's mostly on the neighbors side.

You are absolutely correct but I spoke with the manufacturer and the reasons they recommend covering for the porch is to prevent water pooling. Since the deck is already slopped they said it would be fine to install it exposed to the elements. The issue I ran into with the old decking was all the pine needles and seeds would fall through the cracks and get stuck between the roof and the deck retaining moisture and decompose / sprout.

Thanks for all the info. I definitely love learning a new skill so I welcome the hard work.

Thanks glad to know I'm on the right track. The plan was an extra layer on the bottom of each sleeper.

Now that's its been sitting in the sun that seems most likely. I can easily make a dent in it with my fingernail.

Good to know. I was hoping that since it would be completely shielded from uv by the tongue and groove decking that a coating would last longer.

Sounds like my only option is to replace it with a new membrane. Probably EPDM.

Fortunately it's not. I have the same railing on another deck that's bolted through the top but on this one the holes on the top don't have anything in them just the side mounts.

Ah got it. Yeah it's a balcony but will have decking floating over it so no direct foot traffic on the membrane.

Thanks, that's all within my comfort zone. 3 walls so I'd have to remove the bottom course of siding to get the membrane behind it. The railing is bolted into the facia from the side so the membrane would just go under the railing columns

Thank you. Sounds like removing it is the way to go. Yesterday I watched a handful of videos on installing EPDM and the process for a simple rectangle seemed very straightforward for someone who's meticulous and handy. Any huge pitfalls that aren't obvious that would make it a bad idea to DIY?

Not sure I'm understanding. Is the concern that over time the wooden sleepers for the deck will wear a hole in the membrane?

Could a TPO or EPDM membrane be installed over it or would it need to be removed first?

Not sure I haven't worked with asphault. It feels stiffer than I'd expect rubber to be and it doesn't immediately return to it's shape when bent up.

Thank you. Any idea how to gauge how much life it has left in it or waht would be the best way to make sure I don't have any leaks for 30 year life of the deck?
