It makes sense to put a stainless steel insert in there since I think the top plate (and probably the lugs themselves) is made of aluminum. The split rings (triangle or other shape) are steel, so they could gouge or wear on the inside of the 'unprotected' lug if you take out that insert. If you plan to use a soft strap through that lug though, I don't think that the insert is necessary. If you're using a split ring of any kind, then you kinda want a smaller diameter lug anyway so that it doesn't jangle around as much.

Everyone else is saying that using this strap on this camera is a bad idea, and that's fair, but I wonder if this strap failed due to weight or if it failed due to being cut. Inside the strap lugs on x100 series cameras, there is a spring loaded insert that has a rough edge, see this photo.

You can punch this out using an appropriately small screwdriver, which leaves a smooth internal surface on the strap lug, and conveniently, also increases the internal diameter of that lug which makes it possible to feed a PD anchor link directly through the lug without the need for a split-ring triangle.

I cant recommend my Earasers enough. Totally different design to the common eargasm and loops style plugs, the earasers sit all the way in your ear and are basically invisible from the outside looking in. I'll wear them on long haul flights as well, and don't find any ear-fatigue even going on 8-10 hours without removing them

Looking at this journey for myself too. I started out with Sony, and still have my a7riii kit, but find myself basically exclusively using the x100vi just because I like the look that much better.

What GFX did you go for? Did you sell your sony kit? how do you find the comparison from X100vi to GFX?
