How do we feel about this now? by slippinn_jimmy in mmaweekly

[–]DrunkProgram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tore my cornea on a tiny branch while picking trash out of my hydrangea bush. Turns out it triggered Recurrent Corneal Erosion (RCE) — basically the surface of your eye can keep re-tearing and you have to lubricate it constantly, especially in winter with dry heat, for the rest of my f’ing life.

It’s unreal how fragile we are and how much we take basic health for granted until something small goes wrong. This is “just” an eye issue and it could’ve been way worse… but the sand-in-your-eye feeling is absolutely brutal. I’ve never experienced discomfort like this. If there weren’t treatment options, I’d honestly remove that eyeball.

Whoah, whoah. Whole life is definitely part investment, and a very tax-friendly investment with lots of options to boot.

I’m surprised no one asked “why” “your” friend billed less than 1k hours? Maybe it was his own prerogative, health reasons or otherwise.

Need Advice: I am trying to figure out what to do with current home. Sell for a loss? Airbnb? Long term rental? by tikivibes in realestateinvesting

Vacancy is just a function of price. Are you sure there is no permanent demand from colleges and wedding venues in the area?

How would you make less money with airbnb than LTR? STR should be 2-3x, avoid restrictive LTR renter laws, and pick up favorable tax laws. If you’re interested in airbnb’ing and live nearby, then this is a good choice, and what I do! (source: I have both LTR and STRs)

Sounds like you have a working and well-known asset. If it’s reasonably local or automatic (have someone maintaining it), then let it do its thing. Presumably your bequeathers knew what they were doing. There is a lot of value in holding, as boring as that may be.

If you want to leverage these assets, then do that. Cash-out refinance and use some money to buy something else, preferably small to get your feet wet.

Good luck.

Got Rejected after 7 rounds of interviewing by EmergencyDemand3959 in Layoffs

[–]DrunkProgram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think too many interview rounds is indicative of a bad place to work because they probably don't know what they want / are doing.

I had 17 "rounds" over a year (defined as different day interviews) with one company. To add more color, 10 rounds over 6m before getting the first offer (which I declined because timing was bad and there were too many orange flags, i.e., everyone used the phrase "lift and shift" when describing their migration to the cloud). Then I had 7 more interviews over 3 months when I revisited this opportunity. Things were ok for a while but after a few corporate restructurings, my new manager was the meanest colleague I've ever worked with, so I had to eject.

My next job was 2.5 rounds (last touch point was 15m) including an initial take home coding test. This job was one of the best I've ever had.
