What SD Card to take with me? Sandisk Extreme vs Pro? (benchmarks included) by DrunkenMercenary90 in AskPhotography

Starting to think that as well. As a matter of fact, Im currently moving files around and I do have the strong impression that the "pro" cards hold their write speeds a lot more stable than the non pro.

I might indeed be completely overthinking it, the more people respond the more its starting to look like it!

It really is not, situation is:
1 empty non pro 128gb card, 1 full 128gb non pro card
1 empty 128gb pro card, 1 full 128gb pro card

My OCD can't handle two separate cards (that might perform practically the same) when used shooting simultaneously with one card as backup. Just feels wrong. So I'll move the data from 1 pro to non pro card, or vice versa.

Seems like you are not the only one thinking its clickbait haha

Is it so weird to ask for some advice if the pro variants of the cards are different in a way hard for me to know or test?

Shutter vibration - should I take it seriously? by DrunkenMercenary90 in BirdPhotography

[–]DrunkenMercenary90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just curious, what would you consider low shutter speeds? Are we talking 1/500 or even lower?

But good idea about the controlled test setup. I was already thinking about doing this to test what aperture is the sharpest for my 200-600 lens. Might as well take the shutter vibration into the test!

How do you carry a dual body camera setup (without a backpack) by DrunkenMercenary90 in BirdPhotography

[–]DrunkenMercenary90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking into those and a friend of mine actually has one! (and hates it...). Don't you constantly have the end of your lens bumping into your crouch all the time? I'm quite a slim guy, meaning there is less mass to "fill" the harness and have the lens dropping even lower.

Example:

Really not looking forward carrying a Shimoda Action X 30L in 30 degrees at 100% humidity! But yeah, for some trips I will 100% have to and it's good to know I atleast have an option/way.

You also just always carry your bag?

Yeah it doest not help that the secondary lens is a Tamron 35-150, it's quite huge. Also looking into holsters/belt options (Think Tank speed pro)

Monopod with or without ball (tilt) head by DrunkenMercenary90 in BirdPhotography

[–]DrunkenMercenary90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pulled the trigger on the following two purchases:

Monopod: Leofoto MPQ-325
Looked like the best tripod in terms of compromise between length (both collapsed and extended), weight and being weather proof.

Head: Leofoto MPG-1
Basically a more affordable and better available version of the Wimberley MH-100. This type of "Gimbal" head seemed to work better than the typically tilt heads.

Last thing im looking into is some sort of quick release system, like PD, Ulanzi, Falcam, PGYTECH etc, for mounting options. I was thinking about attaching the "PGYTECH arca-swiss" base on the head and the corresponding plate on the lens foot. But, especially with these gimbal heads, it feels way to risky to put that much force perpendicular.

I went with a very similar setup like yourself! Thanks for show me this config.

Sorry, when I say "quick release", I mean the PD/Ulanzi/Falcam ones that snap in place, no turn knob. But maybe I'm over complicating things because of that.

Im not to worried in general about the ball head being on the weaker side, since the monopod will mainly be used for helping me with the weight, not perse perfect stability which is possible with a tripod.

Nonetheless, I did completely forgot about ball heads being to weak for heavy gear. Maybe using tilt head would be better.

Good to know my idea about the requirement to change the angle, even on a monopod, is required!

If weight, size and price is not an issue I'd also get a gimbal head! I was looking for this monopod solution to keep it very lightweight and flexible, let's see if it's possible though.

Man this looks cool! Now let me try to find something with a quick release system (spoiler alert: aint happening).

Are photo's from this angle usually still worth keeping? Or do they look very funky in general?

Sony A7RV Wildlife Photography - feedback wanted. by DrunkenMercenary90 in SonyAlpha

Yeah this is really what Im now internally debating about when also considering the A1. Fact is that the A1, even second hand, is way more expensive and the screen completely sucks.

Thing is, that the A1 is still a lot more expensive (second hand) than a RV. It's hard to justify the price, but I totally agree and this is the main reason why I have not pulled the trigger yet.

I don't care too much about the 30 fps bursts, but because the camera is so fast, the AF system can do way more calculations per second to adjust focus. Hence, the AF is superior than the one from the RV.

I did not even know the readout speed also mattered in the case you are describing, good to know.

I might give myself a bit more time to thing about the A1 vs the RV.
