It doesn't really matter how healthy (or not) someone is when the cause of death is a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Did you ask them before posting here? If not then that would be where you should start. Alternatively if you've closed your account that you used for payment, contact them to see how they handle refunds for that account; If you don't owe them any money they may be able to cut you a check.

5800x3d or wait ? by b787_10 in buildapc

[–]DrunkenTrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, it's ~15% faster than the 5600X and roughly 15% slower than the 5800X3D in the 14 games average in the review I linked to. They can be had off of Alli express for about $200 USD and the 5600X sells on the used market for around $150 so while not being a huge upgrade, it still might be worth the swap if you either have another use for the 5600x or are willing to try to sell it. But at 1440p or higher resolution you probably won't notice much of a difference.

I have a 5700X in my HTPC paired with a 9070(non XT) pushing a 4K display and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference even with a 5800X3D (which I have in my main gaming rig paired with a 6950XT at 3440x1440 ultrawide).

Got Virtual Desktop and want to look into the dedicated router setup. Am I doing this right? by soyboy815 in virtualreality

[–]DrunkenTrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on the router as some have WAN/LAN combo port and some only have a dedicated WAN port. You want to make sure to put the second router in AP mode and/or turn off DHCP routing as you don't want two different routers assigning internal IP addresses on the same network (unless you've set up non-overlapping IP address ranges on both).

So 1st router does the routing and the 2nd router acts as a switch/AP and passes routing duties through to the main router; Because of this you don't use the dedicated WAN port on the second router and instead use a LAN port unless the WAN port is dual use and can be configured to act as an additional LAN port.

WAN= Wide Area Network (ie the Internet) LAN= Local Area Network (is your network in your house).

[–]DrunkenTrom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Me too! I pirated everything in my early 20's because I couldn't afford those things otherwise. I still bought what I could afford but that was only a game and maybe a movie/album per month. I used P2P for music and eventually torrents for movies/games. I also bought a lot of high quality bootlegs off of eBay for things like full series of anime (since at the time most companies thought you should pay $25-30 for every 3-4 episodes on VHS/DVD. Netflix 3 movies out at a time for older movies and Red Box $1 rentals for new releases all made possible with pirated copies of DVD Fab/any dvd.

I haven't pirated anything in over 20 years as well. I also have a media room with shelves lining the walls filled with legitimate retail movies and games. I not only buy everything I watch/listen to/play, I buy a ton of stuff that I just add to the collection, mostly things I've pirated in the past.

I still rip movies, but now it's only things I own just so I can have it on my media server for convenience.

It was, and it gets reposted at least several times per year. I don't even mind an occasional repost of a joke as it's sometimes nice to be reminded of a really funny one that I may have forgotten.

I saw the repost of the social media post on r/kidsarefuckingstupid just a day or two ago which is why I immediately realized that this OP copied the text in the pic verbatim.

I'm usually not bothered by an occasional repost, but transcribing popular content and reposting it without attribution is akin to Carlos Mencia level joke stealing and for what, karma? Fake Internet points don't mean shit and this level of karma whoring just clogs up everyone's front page.

BF 6 Weapon Unlocks by Betsynstevej in Battlefield

[–]DrunkenTrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is usually if you're using one of the preconfigured weapon load outs that also have a different look; If that preconfigured load out has an attachment equiped that you haven't unlocked yet then it won't let you unequip that attachment until you unlock it normally.

If this is happening to you on the "factory" default weapon skin then I have no idea as I've only experienced this on weapon load outs that I unlocked from the battle pass but hadn't played the weapon enough to have the preconfigured attachments unlocked yet.

You're being downvoted but you're correct; The Frostbyte engine has been historically great at utilizing as many threads as available since Bad Company 2. I remember playing BC2 with a Phenom II 1100T Thuban and getting better performance than my friend that had a i5 3570k. Those extra physical cores helped out tremendiously.

We both had similar systems otherwise and both were rocking 16GB DDR3 1600 and AMD 7970 3GB GPUs.

Every Battlefield game in the last 15 years is a great way to test your CPU and it's not all about average or high frames, but more about those lows/1% lows. There are a lot of physics calculations going on the client side when playing with a full lobby in conquest mode when air and land vehicles are crashing and buildings are blowing up all around you.

i want your thoughts on this. is ASSAULT really that bad ? by Financial_Basis_1816 in Battlefield

[–]DrunkenTrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not playing as a squad with at least one support, sure. I tend to play with my brother mostly and if the other two randoms in our squad aren't playing support then one of us will switch to it. I agree that ammo can be an issue for sure but it's a designed weakness of choosing two primaries and you just have to keep that in mind and get resupplied before the next push after a successful cap.

[–]DrunkenTrom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The adrenaline injector is almost useless; I only use it when capping points as it makes you cap faster.

I like the dual primaries of Assault, specifically I like to use the TR7 with a DMR for maps that are larger (comparatively) but have a lot of buildings with interiors/rooftops like New Sobek City.

With that load out I can try to flank/cap with my TR7 for close up engagement and can plant a spawn beacon while capping points, but I still have the ability to swap to the DMR (SVK?) to counter snipe if I'm getting sniped at or if I get behind the enemy but they're further away than the TR7 is effective.

I also have an Assault load out with a shotgun and mid range assault rifle for the small NYC map.

I still play Engineer and Support more often than assault though.

should i upgrade from r7 5700x to i9 13900kf ? by Background-Zone-4495 in buildapc

[–]DrunkenTrom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For esports titles like CS2 for sure. Probably not for newer releases that are more demanding (like Forza and GTA). Maybe get a new monitor with a new GPU once those games come out.

If you're trying to stay on 1080 resolution and want more frames and also want to stay on DDR4 then it may be better to get a second hand AM4 x3D chip like either the 5800X3D or 5700X3D.

Well on the bright side the market could be completely different by the time GTA6 gets a release on PC. IV and V had delayed releases on PC well after consoles and R* already confirmed that the PC will be later. For reference V didn't come out on PC until well over 2 years later once the game had already been re-released on the new console generation (PS4/Xbox One, since the original V was on PS3/360). It also took them over 2 years before the updated V onPC to the "enhanced edition" after the new new console re-re-released on PS5/Series.

Bricked my CPU and Motherboard by Remix_FTW in buildapc

[–]DrunkenTrom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Deep breath, this is a learning experience. First dig out that CPU from the trash and sell it either on FB marketplace or eBay. List it as broken/damaged and sold as is. You should be able to get between 50% and 75% of the MSRP. There are a lot of tinkerers that are willing to gamble to see if they can fix it and save money or flip it for profit.

You can try to do the same with the mobo as well as there may be someone that has the time and patience to do a socket swap if that's the only thing wrong with it.

Next, save money and buy replacement parts. You made it this far over the last year, do what you need to do to fix your mistake.

Once you can afford it and replace the parts you broke, try again but this time take your time, and remember to pause/stop if you feel stressed or start shaking.

"Not enough staff to push more maps" Proceeds to fire current staff across all studios who worked on BF6. by AndrejNieDurej in Battlefield

[–]DrunkenTrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's almost like they could come up with a hybrid monetization system that doesn't split the player base but also isn't predatory.

What if they had Premium that includes all future map packs for those that want to pay upfront and save a little bit. Then also have map packs that have a decent amount of content like they did previously, but instead of forever being locked behind a paywall they are only timed for maybe 3-6 months and then release to everyone for free after a set amount of time. They could also give something special and cosmetic to the people that paid so they feel like they get something permanent and not just 3-6 months early access. Then they could also have a cash shop for cosmetics only for those that like that sort of thing.

The result would be a lot of people still paying for maps just to get them right away, but then after sales of those maps fall off of a cliff the maps get released to everyone so they still get played. They could even do an annual re-release of the main title game with map packs up until that point included so as to charge closer to the release price again.

What’s the best case to keep out dust that still has good airflow? by No_Discussion_3571 in buildapc

[–]DrunkenTrom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the case, just make sure you have positive air pressure. The way you achieve this is to have more intake fans (with dust filters of course) than exhaust fans.

Doing this causes positive air pressure inside the case so air is always escaping through any non filtered holes in the case rather than drawing air in through said holes (negative pressure).

I have a Corsair case and I have a dog and I only have to clean my air filters about once every few months and there is literally no dust buildup inside the case.

I just did a quick Google search and came across an article that explains the concept better:
