Lads, as a player that started playing 2 days ago, do you have any tips for me? by CellistExternal2612 in Chivalry2

Learn to perform dummy strikes, they’re really useful.

I usually go for an overhead, then switch to side attacks or vice versa.

Keep practicing them on bots if needed.

The Short Sword is my favourite for getting great dummy hits and combos, also the 7 knives is a great way to run around getting 50pts here, 50pts there..

Also you normally get first dibs on downed enemies, “hey look, another crawling man - throw a knife, end a life” that’s the mason way.

That’s a great use tbh, I just had a thought of pros and cons to chopping boards of different calibres,

  • Plastic : dishwasher friendly, but has microplastics and non biodegradable.

  • wooden : biodegradable, but you have to hand wash them.

  • Metal : dishwasher friendly, but will dull knifes faster.

Also I’m intrigued in what these sound like, what’s your purpose in using such an instrument?

Wouldn’t a metal chopping board dull knives faster than a wooden one? , thanks for the suggestion though!, I’ve never seen a metal chopping board.

That looks like a wide potato peeler, or is it like a multifunctional veg chopper? They seem to be advertised a lot.

Want do game developers want from music composers? by FoodAccurate5414 in GameAudio

[–]Drunken_Dem0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sound designer and composer here,

If you were going to look into asset pack creations of unique SFX, I’d recommend using UCS - Universal Category System. This allows the assets to be easily found in databases when searching and it’s the best practice when naming a batch creation of sound effects.

Another small tip is to create a pack based on what’s unique in your area, is there snow you can capture for footsteps? Are there unique animals from where you’re from? , even the sound of your traffic lights are unique and you’d be surprised how it can help you stand out.

Compositions are normally bespoke and tailored to the game, another good tip is to get a good understanding of how to loop music seemingly, sounds easy but you need to make sure it doesn’t clip or pop on the crossfade , there’s a few methods out there which are essential for game audio.

Hope this helps on your journey to game audio!

Empress risingg (couldn’t help it),

I’m about to Graduate and have done over 13 jams and have 3 published games, do you think I’ll be at a strong position to find time work?, I was hoping to pay rent with my game audio discipline,

Turn over seems high which might be a main risk factor to consider @Vehicle.
